      The triangular trade was predominantly white, and more than 10% of Americans supported slave trading and had their livelihoods tied up in supporting trades. The only reason Europeans were somewhat different was because Christians could not enslave a brother, and different priests argued for or against heathen slavery (a good incentive to be Christian). This meant there was a lull between the Roman and Viking slave trades and the industrial ones. But also by the time they resumed the American demand so depopulated (in slaves and war for slaves) Africa that it has not resumed development nor recovered to this day.

      I once had a sociology teacher in high school try to tell the entire class that humans don't have instincts anymore and that's why we need sociology to inform the laws, which then dictate morality. If that's true, then what do you call a libido? A sexuality? A thought? Are thoughts not, in and of themselves, instincts being played out through the conscious mind? What do you call a conscience, the urge not to do something horrible to someone else although wider society informs you that it's a good thing, like how Nazi propaganda socially conditioned Germans to celebrate "purging" undesirable populations? Is that conscience not a type of instinct, informed by the biology which makes us social creatures?
      Anyway, she lost it simply because she got challenged and shut down an entire classroom discussion bc she couldn't handle her interpretation of her own college degree being entirely dismantled by a barely above-average IQ class of 16 year old nobodies. I think that some people are drawn to teaching because they're so ideologically motivated that they can only feel the happy chemicals when they recruit others into thinking like them, so when that's denied by reality then they get VERY irrational and upset. 😂 She definitely was very smart, but also very dogmatic.
      That's just one example of how some ideas are so absurd that only a very intelligent person could rationalize it well enough to make any lick of sense.

    Being a slave in what became America resulted in a 10-15 year greater life expectancy. Slavery was terrible, the Africa they came from was arguably worse. There's a reason Harriet Tubman encountered many slaves that didn't want to be freed.

    • @jishani1
      @jishani1 26 днів тому +27

      slavery was bad, yes. but the depiction of slavery in the US is a lot different than the historical records of what happened. the white guilt pop culture representation is that slaves were constantly beaten and tortured for entertainment. slaves were PROHIBITIVELY expensive. only 5% of the population of the US ever owned slaves. Fewer if you only count the confederacy. which means even in the south before the civil war slavery was relatively rare. slaves were something only the extremely wealthy could afford. if you get a new ferrari to show off to all the poors around you for status, you're not going to destroy it for no reason. that doesn't make any sense.
      side note; due to slaves being something only the rich could afford, many slaves had nicer clothing and ate better than the average american in the south at the time. i'm not making the claim that was the experience of everyone, or even most. just that if a slave was expected to do duties inside the house or run errands / be seen for their master than their appearance would have been a reflection of their owner. and given that only the rich people had them.. that means it was another way to show off.

      By 1870, the population of blacks in the US had grown to over 10 times the number that had ever been brought across as slaves.
      By 1872, the black population in Brazil was less than half of what was brought over and the mixed population was roughly equal (though that portion of the population was classified only as mixed, as opposed to white or black, and so undoubtedly some portion would have been natives or a mix of white and natives).

Regarding the American slave trade, Britain started working to abolish slavery globally around the same time that abolition was taking hold in America. Why risk men and material to accomplish something the Americans are already doing themselves? Slavery, honor killings, etc. all still go on today but since the British are no longer the global superpower and the Western leftists cannot stand ANY American involvement overseas, these problems persist. They would rather rage against the 'white man' than allow Western powers to seize control of areas to fix problems like Haiti's barbarism or Libya's slavery -- not that most citizens of Western nations want to do this anyways, but their governments are sending enough cash for foreign aid that this would be a far, far simpler and more permanent solution.

They were essentially an extension of the government at a certain point, and most of their management came from British officials.

    Learned about the Scramble for Africa at university. Several European countries sought to emulate Britain's wealth by grabbing bits of Africa, but made little profit from them. The British got very spooked and started grabbing countries to stop other countries getting them, often with strange pretexts, like they might be able to turn the tap off on the River Nile etc. The only saving grace was that these acquisitions were done on a shoe string budget and mainly consisted of making a deal with established local rulers.

    The main modern complaint about slavery comes from the same reason Nazism is so much more feared than communism. Our brains contend that we can survive communism by placating to whoever is in charge. Your brain thinks it can survive by playing along. With fascism, the fear is that they can never survive because it's based on specific characteristics that they have no control over. Perhaps they're in the in-group, perhaps not. Even when they are, their brain is worried that the tides can change to them being in the out-group. The basic instinct of humans is like that of any other animal -- survival is key. It's why political revolts, even in horrible places like Turkmenistan, are quite rare.
    This is why one key reason they despise Western slavery, which later on developed a racial component (more do to with ease of acquiring slaves than racism). Their subconscious fears their inability to survive such a situation. It's their ignorance that does not allow them to see how the Islamic slave trade, while willing to enslave anyone, was far more cruel to black slaves than others. For example, Christian slaves made up the Janissaries which were an elite fighting force that served as the Ottoman Sultan's personal bodyguard -- an honorable position that would be strong enough eventually to even overthrow and pick a new sultan. Black slaves were castrated, to prevent them from growing in population -- they were cheap enough that they didn't care to have free slaves, those born into it.
