Got a tip for shock elemental ropes!
When an enemy leaves the shocked state, they become immune to it for a short time after it expires. You can still build it up, but it will stay just one point of buildup under the threshold to avoid stunlocks. And this can be an issue, especially against tiderippers, since a strategy that would be extremely effective otherwise would be to set up shock tripwires while it's stunned to immediately send it back into the shocked status. You could spam shock arrows until the grace period ends to send it back as fast as possible, but this is very inefficient. That's where shock ropes come in. You can easily attach them to a shocked machine, and then set up the aforementioned shock tripwires. Because the shock ropes constantly try to apply shock buildup, they will trigger that last point needed the moment the grace period ends, and will make sure the status doesn't degrade in the meantime. My first ever tideripper was killed with only shock ropes, tripwires, and critical strikes, and it was laughably easy.
I also tried (and miserably failed) to not say "shock" too many times...

Such an under rated tool. Ever since trying it out in the first game, it's changed my game play style and made combat easier.
I use elemental ropes to prevent build up from expiring, such as if im trying to use shock shredders or plasma arrows but if I miss too much the constant trigger of the elemental affect from the rope can prevent me from losing my build up, plus since its a rope, it might cause machines to enter the animation where it tries to pull the ropes off which can basically stun it for a moment as a bonus.
Alao ropes not tying down on the ground, i actually always thought that had to do with the material you try to attach it to, like rocks and metal and wood. The rope cant penetrate itbif its too hard kinda like tripewires. I think you jumping and it somehow working is actually the bug because it becomes too far away to register the surface. I would assume water would impede a ropes ability to get shot into the ground but it also might be a bug that water simply being nearby is affecting it too

The framing of the video was odd sometimes. I guess the use of a face cam is something all of us are getting used to, so it isn't bad to try and see where it fits best in the videos.

Love this channel. The Horizon games really reward good strategy, and you're breakdowns are so thorough and easy to understand. I don't think I'd enjoy these games as much as I do if I just went in blind and tried to figure it all out myself.

I'm surprised you didn't explicitly mention combining canisters with tying down a machine. Easy to hit the canister when the machine is tied down and not moving. I agree that it's pretty niche, but it does help make the canisters easier to use. Also, I found the elemental ropes were at least usable when used on machines that come in a pack that were weak to them, like sunwings and apex clamberjaws. Great video overall!
Tied down machines still move around, and since the canister itself are hanging, they still wobble around. Shocked or knockdown is better for that, but still it´s just not worth the effort.
What do you find worthwhile with the elemental ropes when fighting Sunwings and Clamberjaws?

I always learn so many new tips and tricks from your videos! Never occurred to me to use this thing as a Trap-caster!! I'll have to try that tonight! I loved the Ropecaster in ZD and was a bit sad when it seemed they nerfed it for FW, but it seems that may have been my misunderstanding of the weapon. Now if they'll just bring back those crazy blaze and shock weapons we crafted in ZD+FW :D Resource-heavy but man those were fun to use!

Honestly, I still think it's worth grabbing the first Green Ropecaster as it does at least have 75 tie-down strength, which is still enough to rope down smaller machines with just one or two Ropes. This can be handy early on when facing a whole bunch of fast, annoying enemies at once. Specially ones like Leaplashers! Those are ones you will absolutely want to tie down to make the fight easier.
In Zero Dawn Aloy laughed when using the ropecaster, in Forbidden West the machines laugh

Some Clarification for Penetrating Rope, it always does the same amount of Binding Power means, the same amount with the same weapon of the same Upgrade Level. Meaning the better (higher the Level) of the weapon is, the more powerful it becomes:
The Green Ropecaster is able to do 98 Binding Power with the Technique.
The blue Canister and Eventide do around 131 Binding Power, while the Anchor Ropecaster goes up to 142.
The Elite Canister does 182, and the Elite ROPEcaster does 208.
Finally the Tie that Binds does 261.
Remember, even Slaughterspines are tied down at 600 Binding!

B) Full Reload
C) Hybrid
D) Else, explain in the comments!
I´m B) and sometimes D) With full Elite Plasma Coils on the Tie that Binds and using Plasma Ropes before the Canisters (Plasma Explosion from the same machine wont trigger canister).
Elite overdraw for the win, otherwise I'd go for 2:1 for Reload over Drawspeed, depending on the inherent perks. I like the reload speed, but I want to have some form of bonus if I can't be in the sliding position mid-combat.

Yes, like some other weapon techniques (such as Braced Shot), the amount of tiedown applied by Penetrating Rope depends on the rarity level of the ropecaster. The higher the rarity, the more tiedown it applies, but it is always the same for ropecasters of the same rarity.

Late to the party here as I only recently got forbidden west and started ultra hard play through first time thinking step up from zero dawn wouldn’t be thaaaaat much :p
Ropes not anchoring in water, wouldn’t that be because the land is soft? Like you can’t anchor something into sand or into mud, right? Makes sense there’d be a chance it wouldn’t stick right?
So, you can turn your mount into a "jihad machine". Reminds me od Battlefield series.
I have problems with the canister explosive harpoon things. When i trigger then, they deal 0 damage literally. I try them on the ground and on the machine itself and it still doesn't work. Lets hope its not because of my 5 explosive coils
I assume you’re on PC? Unfortunately, at the moment (patch 1.4), traps are bugged on PC and the canister harpoons functional similarly to traps, so I assume they are bugged as well. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. I would encourage you to submit a bug report about it! www.playstation.com/en-us/horizon/support/

I was having trouble with the explosive harpoons. My TLG's arrows were removing the canisters, not detonating them. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Yeah, less Tear Damage. High Tear Weapon tend to remove them and not explode them.

The Elite Ropecaster requires expensive volatile sludge
What does “damage over time” perk do on a elite ropecaster ?
Increases the Damage over Time effect from the Elemental Ropes, both the rope and at the anchorpoint.
But plasma and electricity do not have damage over time effects. Or does it affect their build up ability ?

DoT Coils do not increase the damage of an elemental state, like Burning, Corroded, those are only influenced by the targets weakness/strength.

@@odetinin The Perk does the same thing as the Coils for DoT. It´´s only Overdraw Coils NOT increasing binding strength, while Overdraw as PERK does.

Is there any reason you wouldn't want to load up the Elite Ropecaster with Overdraw Coils? Won't this increase the actual Tie-down strength?
EDIT - Well nevermind... You answered the question already later in the video lol. That's a bummer that it doesn't work for tie-down strength...
Perhaps they were really going for hyper realism and the ground being soft in or around water makes the rope not be able to have a solid anchor.

Interesting idea. Yeah maybe I could do a video like that. NG+ is pretty clearly better. It makes sense when you think about it. NG+ weapons are harder to get if you played from the beginning starting today because you have to do a NG+ to get them.
@@ArktixOfficial Which is why I'm a little curious which are the better value. Granted they are PS5 exclusive, one gets access to the Quen Burning Shores items in the first playthrough, and they are a heck of a lot easier and cheaper to get and level up as well.
Hey, won't adding more ropes after the binding effect is achieved result in more damage after the machine breaks free? Solid video, didn't know the fun things about the canisters (why did the Slaughterspine just die when I used an explosive canister instead of a binding rope - now I know: from it's own aggression) - thanks!

@@ArktixOfficial yeah, I though they would, perhaps from HZD, but after trying it, even if they do, I don't think the tear damage is anything to talk about (tried to extra-tie a thunderjaw by the tail with the tie that binds - two ropes did nothing)
Oh ok yes they do apply more tear damage, but like you said, it's not really worth considering since there are much better ways to deal tear damage.

So just to be clear, how do I tie down machines faster? I know the mechanic changed since the first game, but none of the upgrades seem to do much. (I’m still watching the video, but is drawing really the only thing??)

@@FurryEskimo It´s a big topic when Arktix need to account for the different skill level of the audience and also the myth going around, make it necessary to explain things like Tapfire, Fulldraw and Overdraw. The point, why it may not work is important also, because as newer player, there is so much information going in during combat, which one isn´t able to filter yet.
Canisters and Elemental Ropes need to be put somewhere too, because they are not worth their own video, so the video got longer and longer.
I think they patched that slide and draw mechanic. I have been trying it and it doesn't seem to work
Hmm it definitely still works. I do it all the time. Are you sure you're sliding before you begin to draw? Also, remember it doesn't work with all weapons. For example, it won't work with a sharpshot bow.
THey basically nerfed rope caster and made it stupidier. I am playing at normal difficulty without using this. after reaching near end I remember rope caster. Even in the previous game for first run of the game, I never used rope caster.

The Burning Shores DLC lets you level up 10 more times for higher max health.

Around the reticle? It could be that you need to upgrade the weapon to unlock the overdraw mechanic. Most weapons need to be upgraded a bit before they’ll do that.
@@ArktixOfficial yes you are right. I had the green ropecaster still and wondered why the halo is missing - it had no overdraw perk ^^

Yeah we’ll see if maybe a patch goes out around PC launch that fixes it, but I doubt if. From what I hear, the game is basically in its final state at this point and the devs are focused on other projects now.
I do still play, mostly to create videos. Planning to stream a fresh ultra hard playthrough on PC around launch though. I have about 1200 hours in on PlayStation 😳 lol. Might do an updated valor surge video soon. For example, I use Chain Burst for groups of machines more now.

Lol if they were going to make Explosive Canisters set each other off, why in the HELL did they not do the same for other Elemental Canisters too? It makes ZERO sense why they did this!
Sheesh... The limitations of Elemental Canisters is just dumb. They really didn't balance this game very well did they? They ensured that the powerful stuff is overpowered & the crappy stuff is just plain crappy & useless...

Lol I just plain don't understand why they even bothered making certain things so weak, like Elemental Ropes. They are so effing weak that they really are completely worthless & a total waste of resources.
Why did they design them this way?? It makes no sense! & if it was a mistake or ill advised design, why wasn't it adjusted via updates? They CLEARLY wanted to balance things better, since they went & nerfed all the actual FUN & powerful stuff, but why not improve the stuff that's basically useless?
I’d anyone still playing this? Seems like the publisher really botched both releases.
Never liked Ropecasters
Ropecasters are the most useful weapon in the game unless your playing on easy difficulty levels. When you get to harder difficulties and you need to crowd control machines they easily become a must have at all times.
