This bands story is a movie waiting to be made. Three very young girls are ask to form a metal/jpop group, no expectation. They excepted the challenge and grew into one of the most adored bands on the entire planet in just a few years. Their followers are rabid to say the least, ( myself included ), and with good reason. Babymetal is a combo of Japanese Kawaii idol or Japanese cute role models, Japanese pop music or Jpop and Heavy Metal. The girls on the left and right side of the stage, Yui Mizuno aka Yuimetal born June 20 1999 and Moa Kikuchi aka Moametal born July 04 1999, were only 14yrs old when this video was filmed - December 21, 2013. The lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto aka Sumetal was born on December 20, 1997 and 16yrs old in this video. The video debuted on UA-cam in 2014 about the same time as the release of their 1st album - Babymetal. The studio version track of this song is on the album. So, to answer some of your questions: This is a video from their 12/21/13 show at Makuhari Messe in Chiba (near Tokyo). The lead singer, Su-metal had just turned 16. The younger girls, Moa-Metal & Yui-Metal were 14 at the time. They are now 20 & 18, respectively. As far as "the band" - in this video, they are just actors in skeleton suits pantomiming. But they were at a point where they were transitioning into having a legit word-class backing band performing live: the Kami Band (aka the Band of Gods or Gods' Band). The studio recordings are performed by session musicians. Most of these are anonymous, though members of Dragonforce have been occasionally credited, as well as at least one of the members of the Kami Band. You should check out "Rondo of Nightmare (With Mischiefs of God Intro)" if you want to see the Kami band in action: ua-cam.com/video/QxYAcIyk2Co/v-deo.html Also, keep in mind that "Gimme Chocolate" (along with "Doki Doki Morning") is probably one of their most poppy songs. Even with the girls singing, *most* of the rest of their stuff is straight-up metal by any objective standard. And Su's voice is really impressive. Oh, and the actual lyrics to "Gimme Chocolate" are a lot more serious than it would seem. It's about the pressure on teenage girls to always stay thin. And finally, since you mentioned System of a Down, you should probably check out Maximum the Hormone. They're another Japanese band. Their sound is influenced by SOAD, as well as RHCP and many, many more. They WILL blow your mind. I'm so glad more metal fans are still discovering Babymetal! There's nothing better than watching someone see them for the first time. Sadly, the lead guitarist you said you wanted to know just died in an accident on January 5, 2018. Mikio, the one who always used a black guitar. You'll still see him in plenty of their performances, though. They show the instrumentalists (the Kami Band) a lot in later shows, and they often get solos, but in the beginning they did focus more on the girls.
Lol, this video was released in 2014 but BabyMetal was actually formed in 2010 when the girls were 13 (Su in the middle) and 11 (Yui and Moa). They are currently 20 and 18 respectively. The reason you don't see much of the band here is because at this point in their careers they were using actors who pretended to play instruments and the girls sang over piped in music. It was actually during the Legend 1999 (name of the show, Moa and Yui's birthyear) and thís concert, Legend 1997 (Su's birthyear), performed a couple of months apart in 2013, the Kami Band was introduced. A bold move to have them perform to a backingtrack and the Babybones first and have them switch it up halfway through the show. But with a band comprized of pretty much the best musicians Japan has to offer, it turned out to be no problem at all... He was their best live guit slinger tho, like Jeff beck meets Jeff hanneman with a little Adrain Belew and Petrucci thrown in. But the other guys’ power metal shines, esp Takayoshi’s Yngvie nods and stage presence. The whole live band is always sick, and extremely versatile

Good reaction - and yes that was the usual "WTF!" that comes with the first song (especially with Gimme Chocolate). Second song is typically "Wow, this is actually really good" (but still a bit confused perhaps). Go for a third song and you're hooked ... and every song is different ranging from this more pop style right through power metal to progressive metal to black metal and all things in between.
This was my first BM and I went...."WUT?" Second was Karate and I went "WTF is this??? And why the HELL do I like it só MUCH?????" Third song??? It was either Megitsune or Ijime, Dame, Zettai, I don't remember exactly, it was pretty much a whole night of looking up what I could find... but yeah, hooked, no regrets. ;)

They started out as a Sub-unit in a developmental Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Their raise in popularity had them break away officially in 2013. The live backing band is known as the Kami Band, they played off and on from 2012-2013, and they were not fully established in Babymetal until 2014. Age during this video of Gimme Chocolate, Su-Metal 16, Yui and Moa 14. This is one of their performances that DOESN'T have the Kami-Band. The Skeleton Band, mock play behind the girls, they were removed from Babymetal in 2013. There are four sides to their performances, group songs, they also have songs dedicated to Suzuka which are her solos. Then there is what is known as Black Babymetal this is where Yui and Moa do duets. Lastly they have Kami Band intros and Mischief of the God's, which are pure instrumentals of the band doing solos before songs. They play a variety of metal styles including the one they invented known as Kawaii Metal. Their first song Doki Doki Morning (2010) is a great example of Kawaii Metal. Gimme Chocolate that is also Kawaii metal. However they have done speed metal (Road of Resistance), folk/Viking metal (Meta Taro), Ska/Punk (YAVA!), more rock style song (Syncopation), Progressive Metal (Tales of Destinies/The One), Ballads (Amore, No Rain No Rainbows), and even black metal (Sis. Anger) The music is written by a small army lyricists and musicians. There are to many to list. They also did a collaboration with DragonForce (Road of Resistance). Each song tell stories. Karate is about overcoming even ones own fears and doubts, Gimmie Chocolate is about body shaming. Other themes are anti bullying, coming of age, and woman empowerment. Some are just fun like playing hide and go seek with an ogre. Their choreography is done one of Japan's best Mikiko Mizuno she is doing the opening ceremonies for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. I think this info will get you going in the right direction in Babymetal information. They are touring in the US coming up in May, might be hard to get tickets this late in the game. Kansas City isn't sold out yet. I strongly suggest you stick to their live shows with future reactions, they are the strongest Live. The Karate Music Video, is their best one, and worth checking out however. If anything I would STRONGLY recommend Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Japanese Copyright laws are weird, and Amuse Inc, the company that owns Babymetal, take them to the extreme. Videos you will not get slapped with Copyright strikes by them are; Karate Music Video, Road of Resistance Live in Japan, Ijime, Dame, Zettai Soniphere 2014, sometimes Mischief of the God's/ Rondo of Nightmares. Everything else it's the Mute and Sync method sorry.
I think the secret to not getting copyright strikes and keeping the video/audio is to react to the official videos from the official Babymetal web page (and fan cams.) If you do pro-shot videos from other than the official web page that's when they go after you, so for those it's best to just provide a link to the original video and a 'count-down' to sync with for audio (sometimes though you even have to remove the video.)
IDZ Soniphere 2014 isn't controlled by Babymetal, but Soniphere's promoter so it's weird. Even with Official video's Amuse can go all Strike happy on people. I've seen people cover every song without strikes by using the Sync and Mute method.

Metal Cynics is the perfect name for babymetal reactors. If you enjoyed "gimme chocolate" then you are about to take a wild ride, my friends. As much as I like this song, it doesn't even crack my babymetal top 15. Usually I would recommend karate at this point, seeing as it is their "cookie cutter, radio" song, but I think you guys should jump right into road of resistance live in japan. It's a song that they collaborated on with dragon force, and the live version gives you a sense of gravitas that they bring to the stage... commanding any crowd that appears before them. I hope to sub soon, but I myself am cynical of new channels that might be using the insane babymetal fan base (me) for views. However, if you are looking for views and enjoy reacting to music, I would recommend tool, as they also have a big following(also me). You seem young. And I have found that since tool hasn't put out an album in over 10 years, many youngins' just don't know them. If this is the case, I would start with either 46& 2, lateralus, or the pot. I just saw your Band Maid reaction and this one (big Babymetal fan, seeing them live in june).... you have now opened the door to a whole new world of music and oh boy,... are you in for a journey. If you're up for another WTF moment, like surprises and a bit of fun, if you like to see an ace on bass, a blue haired beast on drums, some awesome guitar, crazy keyboardwork and incredible vocals, you should really check out Take My Chance. The band are the members of Cacharic Spin and the lead singer is Fuki, who used to be in Lightbringer and is now lead singer for Unlucky Morpheus... all bands you should check out at some point... ;) Doll$Boxx was to be a one-off project at the time (2012) but their 2nd (mini) album came out just pretty recently. Their songs are not all full on metal but this one definitely rocks! The video is a bit of a "protest" against the view on the "Idol Music Scene" in Japan where all girls need to be seen at their best, loveliest and cutest to please the mainly male fandoms. This video, despite it's the most viewed from their official YT channel, isn't a good representation of the band. Mainly for two reasons: 1. It's live footage, but overlayed with the studio track. 2. This performance was half playback. But no the girls but the band. What you saw in the MV wasn't the actual band but a earlier used fake band called BABYBONES. Plus this is one of the more pop-like songs from them. But: You have to see some of their real live stuff! The best you do the suggestion Bonhzeppelin made for the start. Maybe some more advanced stuff later, hehe...

Su was 16, Yui and Moa were 14 at this concert. BTW, for this concert, the band was tracked...and the dudes on-stage were called Babybones. In later concerts, they were replaced by Kamiband, who did the actual music. They also did this live on Late Night with Stephen Colbert.
Their lead guitarists died in the beginning of 2018. It was a freak accident in a way, but those who know of him in the guitar world say he was a monster with his instrument. - if you watch babymetals performance on Colbert Report, the guitarist that died was the one with the black guitar.
The guitar player on the left died Dec 29th this year after falling from a platform at an observatory in Japan. He died 3 days later. I haven't heard anything about them since. Surly he will be replaced. Still sad. He was one of the most respected guitarists in Japan.

This video was made over 4yrs ago. When they weren't exactly sure on how to project the band. But now everyone respects them. They are known as the KAMI band. Babymetal is a combo of Japanese Kawaii idol or Japanese cute role models, Japanese pop music or Jpop and Heavy Metal. They created their own subgenre of Heavy Metal, and currently the ones that occupy it. The girls on the left and right side of the stage, Yui Mizuno aka Yuimetal born June 20 1999 and Moa Kikuchi aka Moametal born July 04 1999, were only 14yrs old when this video was filmed - December 21, 2013. The lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto aka Sumetal was born on December 20, 1997 and 16yrs old in this video. The video debuted on UA-cam in 2014 about the same time as the release of their 1st album - Babymetal. The studio version track of this song is on the album.

So, to answer some of your questions:
This is a video from their 12/21/13 show at Makuhari Messe in Chiba (near Tokyo). The lead singer, Su-metal had just turned 16. The younger girls, Moa-Metal & Yui-Metal were 14 at the time. They are now 20 & 18, respectively.
As far as "the band" - in this video, they are just actors in skeleton suits pantomiming. But they were at a point where they were transitioning into having a legit word-class backing band performing live: the Kami Band (aka the Band of Gods or Gods' Band). The studio recordings are performed by session musicians. Most of these are anonymous, though members of Dragonforce have been occasionally credited, as well as at least one of the members of the Kami Band.
You should check out "Rondo of Nightmare (With Mischiefs of God Intro)" if you want to see the Kami band in action:

Also, keep in mind that "Gimme Chocolate" (along with "Doki Doki Morning") is probably one of their most poppy songs. Even with the girls singing, *most* of the rest of their stuff is straight-up metal by any objective standard. And Su's voice is really impressive. Oh, and the actual lyrics to "Gimme Chocolate" are a lot more serious than it would seem. It's about the pressure on teenage girls to always stay thin.
And finally, since you mentioned System of a Down, you should probably check out Maximum the Hormone. They're another Japanese band. Their sound is influenced by SOAD, as well as RHCP and many, many more. They WILL blow your mind. You should probably start with something 'tame' like "Buiikkikaesu":

I'm so glad more metal fans are still discovering Babymetal! There's nothing better than watching someone see them for the first time. Sadly, the lead guitarist you said you wanted to know just died in an accident on January 5, 2018. Mikio, the one who always used a black guitar. You'll still see him in plenty of their performances, though. They show the instrumentalists (the Kami Band) a lot in later shows, and they often get solos, but in the beginning they did focus more on the girls.

Lol, this video was released in 2014 but BabyMetal was actually formed in 2010 when the girls were 13 (Su in the middle) and 11 (Yui and Moa). They are currently 20 and 18 respectively. The reason you don't see much of the band here is because at this point in their careers they were using actors who pretended to play instruments and the girls sang over piped in music. From this concert on they started using a real band called the Kami Band who is made up of some of the best metal musicians Japan has to offer. It was actually during the Legend 1999 (name of the show, Moa and Yui's birthyear) and thís concert, Legend 1997 (Su's birthyear), performed a couple of months apart in 2013, the Kami Band was introduced. A bold move to have them perform to a backingtrack and the Babybones first and have them switch it up halfway through the show. But with a band comprized of pretty much the best musicians Japan has to offer, it turned out to be no problem at all...
From this Legend 1997 concert comes the most talked about video for "Death!", a song usually played at the opening of the show but here the showcloser, for reasons you have to see for yourselves.... ;)

He was their best live guit slinger tho, like Jeff beck meets Jeff hanneman with a little Adrain Belew and Petrucci thrown in. But the other guys’ power metal shines, esp Takayoshi’s Yngvie nods and stage presence. The whole live band is always sick, and extremely versatile

Good reaction - and yes that was the usual "WTF!" that comes with the first song (especially with Gimme Chocolate). Second song is typically "Wow, this is actually really good" (but still a bit confused perhaps). Go for a third song and you're hooked ... and every song is different ranging from this more pop style right through power metal to progressive metal to black metal and all things in between.
This was my first BM and I went...."WUT?"

Started Babymetal at age 13/11 respectfully. They started out as a Sub-unit in a developmental Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Their raise in popularity had them break away officially in 2013. The live backing band is known as the Kami Band, they played off and on from 2012-2013, and they were not fully established in Babymetal until 2014. Age during this video of Gimme Chocolate, Su-Metal 16, Yui and Moa 14. This is one of their performances that DOESN'T have the Kami-Band. The Skeleton Band, mock play behind the girls, they were removed from Babymetal in 2013.
There are four sides to their performances, group songs, they also have songs dedicated to Suzuka which are her solos. Then there is what is known as Black Babymetal this is where Yui and Moa do duets. Lastly they have Kami Band intros and Mischief of the God's, which are pure instrumentals of the band doing solos before songs.
They play a variety of metal styles including the one they invented known as Kawaii Metal. Their first song Doki Doki Morning (2010) is a great example of Kawaii Metal. Gimme Chocolate that is also Kawaii metal. However they have done speed metal (Road of Resistance), folk/Viking metal (Meta Taro), Ska/Punk (YAVA!), more rock style song (Syncopation), Progressive Metal (Tales of Destinies/The One), Ballads (Amore, No Rain No Rainbows), and even black metal (Sis. Anger)
The music is written by a small army lyricists and musicians. There are to many to list. They also did a collaboration with DragonForce (Road of Resistance). Each song tell stories. Karate is about overcoming even ones own fears and doubts, Gimmie Chocolate is about body shaming. Other themes are anti bullying, coming of age, and woman empowerment. Some are just fun like playing hide and go seek with an ogre.
Their choreography is done one of Japan's best Mikiko Mizuno she is doing the opening ceremonies for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.
I think this info will get you going in the right direction in Babymetal information. They are touring in the US coming up in May, might be hard to get tickets this late in the game. Kansas City isn't sold out yet.
I strongly suggest you stick to their live shows with future reactions, they are the strongest Live. The Karate Music Video, is their best one, and worth checking out however. If anything I would STRONGLY recommend Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Japanese Copyright laws are weird, and Amuse Inc, the company that owns Babymetal, take them to the extreme. Videos you will not get slapped with Copyright strikes by them are; Karate Music Video, Road of Resistance Live in Japan, Ijime, Dame, Zettai Soniphere 2014, sometimes Mischief of the God's/ Rondo of Nightmares. Everything else it's the Mute and Sync method sorry.
I think the secret to not getting copyright strikes and keeping the video/audio is to react to the official videos from the official Babymetal web page (and fan cams.) If you do pro-shot videos from other than the official web page that's when they go after you, so for those it's best to just provide a link to the original video and a 'count-down' to sync with for audio (sometimes though you even have to remove the video.)
IDZ Soniphere 2014 isn't controlled by Babymetal, but Soniphere's promoter so it's weird. Even with Official video's Amuse can go all Strike happy on people. I've seen people cover every song without strikes by using the Sync and Mute method.
Pausing the vid like you did does make it harder for them to detect use of the song (just no guarantees)

Metal Cynics is the perfect name for babymetal reactors. If you enjoyed "gimme chocolate" then you are about to take a wild ride, my friends. As much as I like this song, it doesn't even crack my babymetal top 15. Usually I would recommend karate at this point, seeing as it is their "cookie cutter, radio" song, but I think you guys should jump right into road of resistance live in japan. It's a song that they collaborated on with dragon force, and the live version gives you a sense of gravitas that they bring to the stage... commanding any crowd that appears before them. I hope to sub soon, but I myself am cynical of new channels that might be using the insane babymetal fan base (me) for views.
However, if you are looking for views and enjoy reacting to music, I would recommend tool, as they also have a big following(also me). You seem young. And I have found that since tool hasn't put out an album in over 10 years, many youngins' just don't know them. If this is the case, I would start with either 46& 2, lateralus, or the pot. Doll$Boxx was to be a one-off project at the time (2012) but their 2nd (mini) album came out just pretty recently.
Their songs are not all full on metal but this one definitely rocks! The video is a bit of a "protest" against the view on the "Idol Music Scene" in Japan where all girls need to be seen at their best, loveliest and cutest to please the mainly male fandoms.
I'm gonna stop now before I write an essay on the japanese music scene, I'm very curious as to what you think of this though....

This video, despite it's the most viewed from their official YT channel, isn't a good representation of the band. Mainly for two reasons:
1. It's live footage, but overlayed with the studio track.
2. This performance was half playback. But no the girls but the band. What you saw in the MV wasn't the actual band but a earlier used fake band called BABYBONES.
Plus this is one of the more pop-like songs from them. But: You have to see some of their real live stuff! The best you do the suggestion Bonhzeppelin made for the start. Maybe some more advanced stuff later, hehe...

Su was 16, Yui and Moa were 14 at this concert. BTW, for this concert, the band was tracked...and the dudes on-stage were called Babybones. In later concerts, they were replaced by Kamiband, who did the actual music. They also did this live on Late Night with Stephen Colbert.

They are incredible live. First show in the states, they sold out MSG.

Their lead guitarists died in the beginning of 2018. It was a freak accident in a way, but those who know of him in the guitar world say he was a monster with his instrument. - if you watch babymetals performance on Colbert Report, the guitarist that died was the one with the black guitar.

The guitar player on the left died Dec 29th this year after falling from a platform at an observatory in Japan. He died 3 days later. I haven't heard anything about them since. Surly he will be replaced. Still sad. He was one of the most respected guitarists in Japan.

Guy on the left at 0.56....f@cking hilarious. The sick part....it all started in.....2010. The singer, Su-metal is 22yo now. Do the math how uncomfortable (it shouldn't be 'cause age doesn't matter but the hell, the 2 other girls even are younger....) it was to see them more than 5yo ago. Now it's fine and they are very professional, the band is tight as hell.

Lol.. So this song is prob in the middle of their music. They have some heavier songs and lighter songs.. But all are good and some are EPIC. Seriously EPIC songs. Yeah the band are elite musicians. This video was made over 4yrs ago. When they weren't exactly sure on how to project the band. But now everyone respects them. They are known as the KAMI band. This whole thing was put toether by a music producer who loves metal and saw he had a real Gem with the singer Suzuka Nakamoto. He was correct..her voice is amazing and perfect fit for Metal. A little information: At the time this video was shot, they weren't playing with a real band. The guys in the skeleton costumes were just for show. Don't be ashamed to admit you like this band , I'm a 59 year old musician that's done it all and Babymetal has to be the most original band I've ever seen.. nothing like em.. the guitarist you heard ripping died a couple of years ago.. Mikio... Google that name and be amazed.. not sure who plays in the band now , they're having to wear these stupid mask.. but the music is still great..
