BABYMETAL is the embodiment of "And now for something completely different." For me, BABYMETAL has always been a group about contrasts. It started with the concept of "kawaii metal" and has just continued to evolve on the formula, blending a J-Pop style with various genres of metal. And they go all out on their live performances. Absolutely unique and amazing! These girls/women rock harder than most in the industry.

Welcome back, great reaction - and yes it is fine to laugh, they do stuff we don't expect and they want you to be shocked, surprised and to be thinking WTF is this ... especially with this song.
"Metal doesn't have choreographed dancing". It does now.
I had never realised metal was missing choreographed dancing, but it isn't dancing as I'd ever seen it with western pop acts who might have scantily clad dancers mincing about, grabbing their crotches and basically only there to fill the stage and take your mind off bland music (that choreo still does absolutely nothing for me).
BABYMETAL's choreo, on the other hand, adds so much to the visual spectacle and is one of the things that sets them apart. It is bespoke for each different song and serves at least two of real purposes:
    - It is directly related to the lyrics or the meaning of the song and helps to interpret it for those of us who speak no Japanese;
    - It leads the audience and gets them involved so they even become part of the performance. When Yuimetal and Moametal jump the whole crowd jumps, when they pump their fist or make a certain move so does the crowd and when they sing their parts or chant or shout those are the parts the crowd joins in with.
This video was filmed at a live show, but the audio is from the studio. BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves. For another reaction I would suggest their first major event outside of Japan, one of the biggest metal festivals in the UK - and they were placed on the main stage in front of 50-60,000 UK metalheads who didn't have a clue who or what they were (and a few that did had only seen the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and thought it was a joke or gimmick and should not be there so had threatened on social media to throw bottles and boo them off stage).
They were aged 16 and just turned 15, in a foreign country where they didn't speak the language and had about 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to win this crowd over.
The last song of the set is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (call it IDZ it means Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere UK 2014. You will hear what the crowd thought of them at the end.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome back to BABYMETAL, it's been a while!
Yep, metal doesn't have choreographed dance... BABYMETAL does. And that makes them unique. 😁
Don't worry, confusion is the expected reaction to this one. "Gimme Chocolate" represents an extreme juxtaposition of very aggressive metal instrumentals with cute vocals and choreo. It's a fun song and that was totally intended. This MV went viral in 2014. So, it seems it worked although it's still a very polarizing song, if you ask me.
Luckily for all, every song sounds very different from the others as they are very diverse musically. They like to mix many music genres with many metal sub-genres.
"Atatata taata taatatata zukkyun." and "Watatata taata taatatata dokkyun." are onomatopoeia. 🤣
BABYMETAL are the three girls: Suzuka Nakamoto as SU-METAL is the lead singer, Yui Mizuno (YUIMETAL) and Moa Kikuchi (MOAMETAL) are in charge of backing vocals, dance and also getting the crowd involved. Yui left in 2018 after not performing since October 2017 due to health issues. BABYMETAL continued as a duo adding in 2019 a third girl, from a group of three called "the Avengers", with a dance only role to cover Yui's old spot. On April 1st 2023 Momoko Okazaki was announced as the new official member under the stage name MOMOMETAL, after being one of the Avengers since 2019.
They are backed by the Kami Band, a group of session musicians, the best you can find. All of them have their personal projects aside BABYMETAL. They have had a minimal rotation during the last years with the only addition of a second set of musicians from the US. They are currently on a world tour basically for the rest of the year.
I believe you will probably enjoy this one more: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
    Until next time!

No worries, being confused about this song was most likely the intention, and it clearly works even 9 years after it went viral in 2014.
Babymetal (the name refers to the creation of a new metal genre) is just the girls (Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal, the original members. Yui left in 2018 after year of absence, for undisclosed health reasons. Her spot was just this year filled by Momometal). The girls, are 25, 23, and 20 now. The genre is called kawaii (cute) metal, even tho Babymetal doesn’t fit any box, which is the greatest thing about them, since they will always surprise you with something unexpected. Are they big? Well, if you fill the Tokyo Dome without any problem, some might consider you big (Tokyo Dome holds 55.000 and was sold out for two consecutive nights by them). What else did you ask? Either way, check out “Mirror Mirror” from their latest album “The Other One” which was released as a concept album in March this year. 🤘🔥🦊

That's because they actually created a new genre, called Kawaii (Cute) Metal. Serious. From Wikipedia: Kawaii metal (also known as idol metal,[1] cute metal, J-pop metal or kawaiicore[2]) is a musical genre that blends elements of heavy metal and J-pop that was pioneered in Japan in the early 2010s....The Japanese girl group Babymetal is often credited with the creation and success of kawaii metal.

Your reaction is completely normal, expected and appropriate. Yes, even the laughing! Babymetal's music, especially this song, is meant to bring people joy. They are not "heavy metal" they are "kawaii metal" (kawaii meaning "cute" in Japanese). The group known as Babymetal is only the 3 girls, their band known as the "kami band" are just session musicians although they are the best in the business. Except earlier in Babymetal's career, the kami band couldn't always perform live with Babymetal so whenever you see the guys in skeleton costumes, that is not a real band, they are just pretending.
From 2010 to 2018 Babymetal consisted of 3 girls: Su-metal (vocal & dance), Yuimetal (scream & dance) & Moametal (scream & dance). In 2018 Yui left the group due to health reasons. In 2019 they started performing with a series of backup dancers to fill in for Yui's old spot and about 2 months ago they made one of those backup dancers a permanent 3rd member. Her name is Momometal.
Their song Gimme Chocolate is what helped propel Babymetal onto a world stage. It was filmed at their Legend 1997 concert which was held in 2013 to celebrate the lead singer's 16th birthday. Yui and Moa were both 14.5 at the time. This was before they even had released their first album even though they were already together for over 3 years at that point.
After Yui left, the group went through a pretty drastic transformation. Partly due to her departure but also because they were now adults, they left behind their old kawaii image and sound and replaced it with a more mature one. They still perform choreographed dances to all their songs of course.
If you want to get an idea of what they look like now I suggest any of these: Kagerou, BxMxC, Starlight or Metal Kingdom (all live performances)

Welcome back to the Foxhole, it's been a while 🦊🤘🔥
I remember some of your reactions and glad to see you're back with more BM songs.
Always expect the unexpected with BM, they just want chocolate and they will make sure to get some. This one is super fun and got top views in the channel for a reason, and that's why fans were enjoying this song at Sabaton's Europe Tour as well in Jakarta and today they will again at Bangkok, probably, the girls love this one too and they like to make shenanigans in between dance moves, same thing with "Megitsune" which is another fans favorite and my next suggestion, either official MV or live at Budokan 2014.
Just like SuMetal and Bruce Lee said: "Don't think, feel."
But if the BM early era is throwing you off then you can jump to the new singles and more mature sound of this new BM side we've never seen before.
Try "Mirror Mirror" official MV or "Monochrome" official lyrics video, "Divine Attack - Shingeki" official visualizer is another good one.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

😂😂😂If you got really young daughters asking you to give them chocolates, then the noise " a da da da da do cu...." will remind you something. If you are going to react to "Headbanger ", please see the very first choreography with noise as "three little girl are kind of exciting and kinda jumpy on the way to see a metal concert first time in their life". Then everything will make sense to you!
Early rock stars got no choreography or dancers either, right? But they did dance a bit. Then, we've got dancers on stage rock on music. If rocknroll could have dancers, why not metal? All you need to do is to write a song that's danceable.
Decades ago In Japan, one rock star with two dancers were the typical formation. Babymetal just adopted that old formation for a startup.
Babymetal started as a trio, a metal idol group. Then, after they grew bigger, affordable for musicians as constant members, then they are called A BAND. My all time favourite Japanese band started as a dual, after grew big, can afford constant band members, then they are called a band. However, in front of the media, there is always only two person. Why? Because the musicians did not grew with the dual from the very beginning. They joined the dual after they started to be famous. The musicians will not take the credit either, because it's unfair to the dual.
And, started with dual or trio is really common in music industry of Japan.

It was a band for children and tweens, but the agressive heavy metal, virtuosity and professionalism created many adult headbangers fans too. The metalhead fan with an open heart and mind will experience immense joy and fun and will love the Babymetal. They started at the age of 12 (Su, the vocalist) and the backing vocals, 10 (Yui and Moa - who sometimes also sing as lead vocalists), in 2010. They sing in the Japanese language. The Kamiband (Kami=gods) was born with Babymetal. Unfortunately, the lead guitarist, Mikio, passed away. Yui, a member of the original trio, left in 2018 due to health reasons. Everyone misses them very much. They already have 13 years on the road. The themes of the songs express their existence, the growth of girls, in the form of heavy metal riffs. 🦊🦊🦊

Nice reaction. Babymetal is fully aware of how confusing they are. But some of that is the point. They wanted to shake things up. Oh boy did they. Most aggressive way of asking for chocolate for sure. They sound Yui and Moa make are actually the sounds kids in Japan make for guns. They even hold their hands in gun shapes. Yup they're not asking for chocolate they're demanding it in a kid friendly kawaii sort of way. The audience Babymetal went for was, well everyone. This is why their music is very diverse. Give Me Chocolate is the song that went viral and made them world famous. When they started, they wanted to energize the metal industry in Japan with something new. Which is why they're called Babymetal. Not from their ages but because of the new genre of metal that started with them. Next, they wanted a good starting point for those who don't listen to metal to jump on board. They never forgot this part. For many metal heads they have songs that just aren't heavy enough for them. Well, it's not really meant for them. They have other songs for hardcore metal heads. This is in many ways what makes Babymetals songs so diverse. They hit just about every style of metal and mix, blend and cut into it with whatever other styles of genre or genres they wish. As odd as it sounds Babymetal actually makes it work. Babymetal magic. They're dancing comes from where they started out as kids Jpop. Early they got to meet Metallica and as Su the lead singer said. That's when they got a true appreciation of metal. That would do it. Many big-name acts have come to respect Babymetal. And support them. The odd one is after seeing them Lady Gaga got them to open for her for part of her tour. Goes down as weird but true. Babymetal have led amazing lives. That if you saw it in a movie, you would think oh that's so fake it could never happen like that. BuuuuuuuuuuuTT it did. Today Babymetal is the premier metal act from Japan. Laughing is ok. Babymetal has become the happiest place in metal. Lastly Babymetal is a great show live and have earned awards for it. Babymetal is everything you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed.

This song was one of their first attempts to accomplish something special (and it went viral on youtube which led to them getting actual funding to continue - before this they were playing at strip malls and clubs and borrowing clothes from family and friends to match), they accomplish it over time, a fusion of Su-Metal (lead singer's) amazing voice with metal backing. This is one of two early songs that went hard into cute, there are many others from around this time that do not. I hope you try a few other songs that I think will rope you in (babymetal live legend 1997: Death / Head Bangya / Megitsune are three great choices). If you go with 1997 Legend Live concert series, it is around Su-Metal's 16th birthday, when they are still having to schedule appearances around school schedules. Selling out 15-55K concert venues. With the entire audience completely engaged and having a blast. After the 1997 live stuff, they get signed on to perform Sonisphere in the UK where they then get bumped to the main stage - first time outside of Japan and its 50K+ english metal fans there for Iron Maiden, Metallica and the like and Babymetal takes the stage. By the end of the set 50K+ english metal fans are rocking the place chanting they want more. Babymetal is not for everyone, but they are crazy good, and their live shows are unparalleled.

no need to apologize for laughing on this video - I also found them funny when I saw Gimme Chocolate when it first was released. Over the years I've grown to be a big fan, and they (along with a couple of other groups) got me through solo Covid lockdown. The more you watch/listen, the more you may find respect for the writing, the concept, the stamina of the girls (later women), their skill with the synchronised choreography, the catchiness of the music, the crazy lore, the respect from seasoned and long-in-the-tooth professional music gods that defend them, and the lead singer's professionalism and well-trained voice. But most of all, you are allowed to have fun with their music and bouncy personalities. No matter how much you want your metal hard 'n heavy, and put forward by grizzled men, there's gonna be a day where you need a sorbet that fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.
I'd suggest trying some of the new stuff, especially the Monochrome music vid (a song that has themes of nuclear war sung by a girl from one of the cities flattened during the 2nd world war). Also the Megitsune MV, and after just about any live version of the same.

It's metal yet is not metal. It's metal and J-pop. Hence the dancing and silly fun vocals. I think if you just accept Babymetal is its own thing it's easier to understand. Don't try to force it into the same slot as conventional metal.

Three young girls performing metal concerts, being counter culture to what's expected of them and as a metal group. What can be more metal than that? Gimme' Chocolate is hardly what they are about. It's one song in a very diverse collection of metal genres they perform. I personally wish that Gimme' Chocolate was not the song that people see first.
Babymetal are the 3 girls, Su-metal (Suzuka Namamoto), Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno), and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi). Yuimetal left the group in 2018 due to health reasons. Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was promoted from back up dancer (3 were used after Yui left the group) to full member on Apr 1, 2023. So the current line up for the new album is: Su-metal (25) lead, Moametal (23) scream and dance, and Momometal (20) scream and dance.
The band is a session band called 'Kami Band', who's members change based on where/when they are touring. (skeleton band in this video is a fake band not really playing).
The choreo is part of the show. You will get used to it (or not). So many people have, so that speaks to their success.
The are credited with creating the Genre of music called Kawaii-metal (cute-metal) which has spawned many other acts such as: Band-Maid, Lovebites, Passcode to name a few.
Their roots are in JPop (group was called Sakura Gakuin) but their producer saw potential in the lead singers abilities and wanted to see if she could be used in his weird idea of combining 2 opposite styles, pop and metal, to see if could work and it took off. Gimme' Chocolate was the song that went viral for them. That's why it has so many views. What really put them on the world stage was the concert at Sonisphere 2014. After their performance, the crowd was chanting "We want more" as they exited the stage.
BTW this song is about wanting chocolate but they are afraid that it will make them fat if they eat too much. I don't think that will happen since they expel so much energy on stage. and Moametal is a SUPER FOODIE, omg that girl loves to eat. lol

Do not know exactly what songs you have heard but I believe that if you take a look at the information provided below and follow suggested LIVE performances you might be surprised. Gimme Chocolate is really not indicative of who and what BabyMetal is (also read the comment about their world class backing band that tours with them The Kami Band)
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.
Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls
    Syncopation LIVE
    Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021
Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan
    Headbanger LIVE
    Shine LIVE
    Tales of the Destinies LIVE
Yava LIVE with Kami Band intro at 2017 Fox Festival
Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro
At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

The name BABYMETAL simply refers to the birth of a new type of Metal. BABYMETAL is a Metal Sing and Dance unit, not a band, they are however accompanied by a group of session musicians called the Kami band. Gimmie Chocolate is not exactly the one I would recommend to you and what you heard here is the studio version, recent live performances sound a fair bit better. All three songs you've reacted to are early tracks, loved by fans (myself included) but maybe something newer would give you a better idea of what they offer. Perhaps Mirror Mirror from their new album? Starlight or BxMxC from their third album? Or Syncopation from their second album, I love that song. There's an official music video for Mirror Mirror and live compilations for the other songs.

You have to consider that they started out 11-12 years old and the footage you saw here was from "Legend 1997" in 2013, the same day Su turned 16 and Moa+Yui were 14.

"Metal does not have choreographed dance."
    Kawaii metal does. Obviously.
BABYMETAL is not just about the music. They do a complete artistic performance. Ears and eyes both get sensory overload. Which is confusing in the beginning.
