The C8 Corvette is Truly a Bargain Supercar - APEX:60

Moving the engine to the middle puts the Corvette in a new league.
The Corvette has been delivering expensive performance at discount prices for decades. Its been an icon since its debut in 1953. Curvaceous metal wrapped around competitive power, all available for an affordable price.
For nearly 70 years the formula stayed the same: V8 up front, two seats in the back. But the mid-engine rumors have been around a long time, too. Only six years after the first Corvette went on sale Chevrolet built a mid-engine concept car called the XP-719. On the back of a wrinkled photo it says, “First mid-engine Corvette proposal”. But the Corvette sold well and won races. If it ain’t broke, don’t move the engine.
But there is a point where you can’t outrun physics and Chevy recognized they were at that point with the C7. And so with the C8, sixty years of rumors have been put to the rest. The Corvette has ran alongside mid-engined competitors for a long time. Looking at how fast they were with the engine in the “wrong” place, think about how fast they’ll be now.
