I suspect the Mirror Cali-class is a combat salvage ship designed to dart into active combat and retrieve disabled ships from active battlefields. Because of this it has to be up armed and armored because it can't maneuver when towing ships off a battle field.
The issue of the crew not changing is addresed in dialog when they finish the shield mod. Billups(?) points out that it is enough to protect the crew but not the Duranium in the hull. I was thinking that the pod on top of the saucer might be like the one on a Nebula-class ship. Final thought- Since we're dealing with the Multiverse, there should be a multitude of versions of Terran Empire and their ships. So, in a sense, it's all canon.
For us model builders this is great since we now have the Cerritos in 1/1400 scale, right in scale with the sovereign class model kit. Easy for us to kitbash the two together like here.
This episode looked fantastic I wish everyone involved the best!! This one could be pretty fun for a kit-bash well if I can ever find a few Cerritos kits....Think I'm going to have a bash making a soverignified Oberth such a fun episode.
ISS Ceretos as a long range sniper/kite might actually justify reverse impulse, as it stands back and "supports" a battle line while flying backward when anything charges at it. Or a commerce raider- "Second contact" from a Mirror Universe standpoint!
12:00 In Star Trek Armada 2, ALL Klingon ships have weapons, even the freighters and cargo ships. They only got a single bank, but still. Could see Terran Californias armed up, like all the other Terran ships.
I don't know what the recent trend has been Against The Sovereign class if frequently on Lower decks and then other series and fans and forums ripping on it saying it's too homogeneous or homologated too many Starships resemble it LOL. The Sovereign class was until the conceptualization of the Odyssey and other designs the leading star Fleet design in Trek so it shouldn't be a surprise that Starships either borrow from it or resemble it even the new USS Voyager A people are complaining and griping that it resembles a sovereign well there's a reason for that The Sovereign is the lead Flagship class at least until the Odyssey class materialize which carries design language forward.
That's weird to me...because one of the things I dislike about Star Trek is the ridiculous variety of just absolutely stupid designs. One of my favorite moments was at the end of Picard S1, simply because Starfleet FINALLY looked like an actual space navy. It's one of the reasons Legend of the Galactic Heroes is one of my favorite anime. The ships have a few different classes, but they all look like they belong to a single fleet, and nothing is needlessly different.
@DoremiFasolatido1979 play I thought so as well consistency and modularity of the fleet is something that you see in real-world Naval lore and vestiges Investments but in Star Trek it is the 24th 25th whichever Century it is LOL There are variations invariance no matter what I mean that's just how it works Starfleet could always just decide to try something different see if it works better or not but continuity wise it builds upon itself I mean Star Trek fans I always thought loved bloodline resemblances between Starships the DNA that binds them But then Star Trek lower decks debuts and it starts to become more of a meme or a Trope that Starships all resemble The Sovereign class and its derivatives and that's apparently a state is Unbecoming I always liked TNG when it did have the technical manuals cuz you could see ships that resembled the Galaxy class Enterprise d however in this world a fiction people invest their emotions into it and well it gets lost in the sauce
@@TheDogGeneral I actually never consider the aesthetics. I don't really care for Roddenberry's Rules regarding designing ships, but I think that FTL only ever works one way (whichever way a creator happens to choose, that is). So...every ship that uses it MUST look similar in that regard. So, the variety of ships in Star Trek with all manner of f-ed up warp schemes just pisses me off. Star Wars gets away with it because of their extremely narratively lazy "hyperdrive" which is relatively small compared to the ship its in, and has nothing at all to do with the ship's design anyway. Battletech is a pretty good example of ships following the rules. Their K-F Drives have some pretty significant requirements, and it's hard to skirt them in any major way. So, all jumpships look very similar. Even Warships look mostly the same, because even advanced and smaller K-F Drive cores are still f-ing huge and drastically impact the external structure of the ship. In Star Trek, there should've only ever been 3 ways to warp... Nacelles Rings Gates (basically a warp catapult, like the Soliton Wave Projector from the one TNG episode). And the gates should've been developed first, followed by rings, eventually ending with nacelles after a few hundred years. Starfleet non-combat ships should always have rings. Warships should always have nacelles. And Civilian ships should never have drives and always need gates because FTL is too damned dangerous to put in the hands of some average dipwad who can't even drive a car correctly. A fender-bender in FTL would destroy a planet...Death Star style. There should also have been huge stations in every star system that disrupt warp fields to prevent anyone from warping too close to planets and risk hitting them. Impulse-only in-system. Then you've got transwarp, which is a whole other technique but generally follows the same rules, and the same development path (gates, rings, nacelles).
@DoremiFasolatido1979 I concur, I don't believe gene or Jeffries or even John eves or Andy Probert's rules have to be followed in 100%.Peculiarly, there is room for improvement room for adjustments.Change adaptation makes a match Though I do believe the enterprise , at least whatever vessel is should be recognizable to some Extend , but it doesn't have to be rigid There can be visual tension visual release but Who says people can't add to the dynasty Some franchises have different takes on technology But in the case of star trek , it's always seen to follow form follows function but star trek has broken that rule From time to time. I agree with you on the different methods to obtain warp. There's never strictly 1 route 1 destination. There's always multiple routes to the same goal, And I'm that arcade. That's why the reasons why when Star Trek stopped broadcasting in 2005. It opened the door to criticism anytime. Someone else came along and decided to progress son. A different direction The witch has spawn endless rants on different forums from the deepest recesses of the internet l o l
So that's what Captain Freeman meant when she said she said she didn't want the refit looking all 'sovereign class'.

The ISS Cerritos looked kinda badass. Such a tease for Shax 😂

Yes we know the in universe reason, but we were expressing that it would have enhanced the scenes if they could have a little.

They have carpet on the iss Cerritos
i like the rollbars, for me they are extra weapon pods
It has a rollbar on the lower rollbar
This seems like a ship that is meant to keep a planet in line after the first conquest any sign of resistance you just unload on a planet
But also capable of tractoring home the spoils of a battle.

8:29 the deflector dish is like the ones on the klingon bird of prey. It around the photon torpedo launcher.
Wait! Our Mariner is right-handed!
I think the nacelles would look better upside down, and I'd eliminate the torpedo roll bar above the deflector housing.
I look forward to all the Cerritos variants about to come from the modeling community.
Got new starship coming it's iss Cerritos
