Underrated album. People hated on it heavy when it first dropped I didn’t forget. Cole a legend and deserves his flowers. Gotta do born sinner. My favorite cole album. Definitely gotta do the cole mixtapes. Love the content
Strange, I’m the opposite. When it came out I loved it and bumped it heavy, but haven’t listened in a while and on this relisten it doesn’t feel as good as I remember
When KOD dropped I was 13yrs old and didn't get it what Cole was saying. I was seeing what he was saying in real life, hearing but not listening. I'm 18 now and when I listen to it my perspective and understanding of what he's saying and what I was really seeing was an eye-opening moment fr
I'm truly sorry that you understand this album now as an adult. Understanding this album means that you have truly felt some hard and deep-rooted pain in your life
FRIENDS hits hard. everyone who has struggled with a substance can attest. its a rough realization that your coping affects people around you! not only that but you’re holding yourself back! great reaction and love to everyone who can relate to these themes ❤️
1985 is a masterclass example of someone being like “I am not even going to dignify what you are saying with a response” while simultaneously letting them know you could end their career with ONE interview. He literally told Pump “ruining you is not worth my time” 😂
i love cole but this is insane. the off season isn't as strong as KOD thematically - but the production is absurdly better and the vocals, especially from Morray, Bas and 6lack, are much better than on KOD. I can do a tracklist comparison: doing it not in order, but by order of best to worst songs from each album. that way there are no david/goliath matchups. TOS KOD 1. The Climb Back > 1. Window Pain 2. Let go my Hand < 2. Once an Addict 3. Hunger on Hillside > 3. Brackets 4. Close > 4. Friends 5. Interlude < 5. ATM 6. Amari < 6. Kevin's Heart 7. My Life > 7. Photograph 8. Pride is the Devil > 8. Motiv8 9.100 Mil > 9. The Cut Off 10. Applying Pressure > 10. 1985 11. Punchin the Clock > 11. Intro 12. 95 South > 12. KOD The top 6 are relatively balanced. After that, KOD expriences a sheer drop in quality that The Off Season just . . . doesn't. I find that 9-12 on KOD are just extremely difficult to listen to, epsiecally KOD. The Off Season just feels more complete because you can still listen to the thing without wanting to skip half the songs. Part of the reason KOD is so hated on despite is being a solid album is because it's notably worse than 4YEO, which is probably Cole's best work to dedicated fans.
@@dylanwatt7461 Thanks for the comparison above - but even that is subjective, you have Punchin the clock at 11 when it is my favourite off that project. Appreciate your reasoning though, and yeah 4YEO is my favourite Cole project too. I heavily look for thematicism over most other factors when it comes to musical projects.
What I love about jcole is that he even had a sit down and talked with lil pump to try and get an understanding with him and help him get his perspective in hopes that he’ll see the bigger picture
KOD was the first Cole album I ever listened to and I discovered it right after my pops had passed. It let me feel my feelings and work through losing my dad, and seeing y’all 2 react and discuss this project really connects me back with my dad. Keep doing ya thing❤️
Love your pops man! He's dope, his reactions and how he reiterates the ad-libs and hooks are priceless. You do a great job moderating and introducing him to the projects. Keep it up guys!
Kill Edward is in reference to Coles' stepfather, I believe. His name was Edward and he had a horrible relationship with him. The Cut Off does reference it subtly, too. But that also why Kill Our Demons is a theme as he needs to grow from it Edit: Also talks about in Window Pain I believe "all I wanna do is kill the man that made my momma cry"
I remember staying up waiting for this album to drop and was very pleased with the arrangements and messages in the songs. Almost the entire album is my favorite 😮💨👏🏽 Love how your dad catches the messages first listen.
@@MrfuckinBeilke Oh you're one of those fans, grow tf up bro, Tyler doesn't even like those albums anymore and hates when fans make the claim that you just made, Tyler's leagues better at rapping and production than how he was pre-Wolf
So this is my first comment but it’s my 10 video. I’ve done mostly Kanye and Kendrick but this was a very good review. I see your father’s growth from the black album where he was almost clueless to now being very in tune. It’s awesome to see that being a hip hop fan. This has also reawakened my love for my favorite albums and it’s the best thing next to hearing them again for the first time! Solute to you and pops!💯
Kill Edward represents j. Coles turmoil and is in reference to the man who broke his mothers heart whom he talks about on Once An Addict who was named Edward. 43:41
Damn right, I don't get it. Solid top to bottom. Got everything you want. It's thought provoking, got bangers , it's intimate and relevant. Press play and run as a album should be
J.Cole is one of Hip-Hops 🐐s he's always hungry when he raps and he always makes sense. He's very original and a underrated producer that's Cole world 🌎🥶 Dreamville
Once an addict hit so crazy to me at the time being 17-18 w an alcoholic mother having that feeling of I can’t wait to get up outta here and go to college not realizing what she herself was going through
Hey man do you post unedited versions of these somewhere? Please😢 I really love watching every second of these album reactions.❤ love this channel man and u and your dad( yooo nevermind I'm going to join patreon) yay
Kill Edward is based off his step father Edward, who was mildly abusive to him, his brother, and mom and then left their mom when he grew up. But this was the only father figure he had growing up, who showed him rap like Tupac and biggie. So he as much as he resents Edward he also thanks him for that. But in therapy, they say to kill your ego or traumatic experience, hence kill Edward, which personifies all his trouble and traumas during his up bringing. I put it together on my own, and then cole confirmed it during an interview
I recommend ppl who are going through an addiction to listen to this album. This album has helped me through my addiction and is still helping me!🙏🏿❤️🥺🥹😊✝️

Just wait until you listen to it in 5 years when you’ve lived life a little. That’s how all coles music is. The messages change so much.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I love Cole’s singing voice.

He should do more music like that, he sounds so passionate
I lost my father in 2021, I watch these videos because they remind me of the relationship we had. Thank you guys and congrats on 100 videos!

For clarity, I would give KOD a strong 8 and TOS a weak 8, they aren't leagues apart so my bad if that's how it came across.

Hell yesss The Cut Off and Kevin’s Heart two of my favs off the track. I like some others as well but those 2 hit diff 🔥

Y’all need to react to born sinner, it has aged amazingly and imo a top 3 album from King Cole

My favorite Cole album personally. The whole album is a Biggie homage and it works so well
Much love from New Zealand boys keep up the awesome content 💚
