I just got a 2014 Pro 4X for about 34K. For the price I got a lot of goodies like back-up camera, navigation system, all the Pro-4X features, and it has one of the best sound systems I've heard in a car in this price range. These true SUVs are a dying breed but I love it. The ride quality and noise level is really good for a traditional SUV and I highly recommend it to anybody who is tired of all the pansy crossovers out there.
I sound deadened my doors and upgraded the stereo, now my X's sound system/doors sound like a Benz when you close them as well as road noise is cut down a alot
You guys didn't mention one huge benefit that the Xterra has over the competition... Towing capacity is far greater on the Xterra. If you are looking for an off-road play toy you are buying a Jeep. If you are the rest of the 99% of the population looking for a practical mid-sized SUV that can tow a decent amount AND go off road to a camp site, have lots of utility, and have 4 real doors then the Xterra wins easily.
This car is for young men who go camping or outdoors with their friends, that's why the designers didn't take into consideration weather a child can reach the door handle or not. it's not really a family car but even if it was it's not a major flaw
My 2012 I bought for 18k. It had 59500k when I got it in January 2019. It runs great. My 6 yr old can reach the door handles although just barely and it’s a bit tight with 2 booster seats and a big 11 yr old in the middle but it works fine. Came with the fosgate sound system which is ok but not as good as fords or gym but other than that the gas mileage is way better than my last vehicle an 03 durrango. 12litres per 100 km is way better than 20 bucks every time I started my dodge. So far very happy. I hope they bring it back soon. I’ve heard rumours they might be. Planning my wife’s next vehicle to be a pathfinder which should be a huge upgrade over her problematic vw Jetta. Great review Nathan. Sorry you didn’t get to do the stingray review lol
A few months ago I bought a luxury Ram limited 1500 with off road package. Very nice pickup but I’m too fussy to get it dirty. Just purchased a 2015 pro4x Xterra and I’m honestly way more excited about this purchase as it’s just so much more fun to drive. I shined up the Ram, stashed it in the garage and who knows when I’ll drive that again. LOL
Love your video the only thing is you should rename it hater of Nissan Xterra does it review because the vehicle is an awesome vehicle I've been a Chevy man all my life I bought one of these and they're great
The mileage problem isn't the weight, it's the restrictions on the motor with 4 stock catalytic converters. Replace them with to 2 hi-flow. Problem fixed...👊👍😎
@@thehypercasual385 I had no problems. It allows the motor to breathe better giving it better performance meaning more power and better fuel efficiency. A muffler shop will know what you want to do. You can also replace your muffler with a performance one but if don't like the deep rumble sound they give off, you can leave your stock muffler alone.
@@thehypercasual385 Welcome... But I didn't gauge the improvement but it felt great not having to fill up every 3 days lol. I also have semi new injectors though. I know it improved because even in 4x4 I use less gas as long as I'm not going over 70mph...👊👍😎
Nathan, great review. Agree on the door handles vs. kids. Also the rear doors have a sharp 90 deg. angle that is head/eye height for children. Ours have all run into that at some point with varying amounts of injury. On the plus side, in our 2005 Xterra we fit 3 car seats across - boosters on each side and rear-facing baby seat in the middle. Not ideal but it works.
I personally own a 2012 Nissan Xterra Pro 4x. I average 18mpg. Through an average tank of gas for me it does get driven like a rally car, it also gets driven 19 miles highway to work. I still average 18mpg. This is coming from some one who traded in a diesel vw jetta for it. In the jetta i averaged 47mpg with an AFE cold air intake. SAME DRIVING(before cold air intake i got 44mpg).
I sold my 2012 Jetta sportwagen 2.5. Traded 30mpg for 20. Loved the VW for the price. But as a work vehicle the xterra is more spacious and solid with better visibility. . Plus in northeast Ohio, a low car is not best as a daily driver due to horrendous roads
I have had both manual and auto Xterras. Now I am in the auto and like it more. Just works better for what I use it for. Far superior for crawling off road as I do frequently. To each there own I guess Nathan.
I have to give props to Nissan for the xterra. Look at the car market today and appreciate the utility of the vehicle. What is the BRZ is to sports cars, what is the Raptor to trucks and what is the Xterra for SUV's ? It is a break away from the mainstream. Yes the car may be "2006", but damnit certain things were better in 2006. This truck reminds me of the 80 series yota LC. Purpose built, purpose engineered and priced to compete. Who else does that? Jeep and Fj are expensive. TY TFL
Always loved this vehicle, really wished they sold them in my neck of the woods :( Too many vehicles nowadays seem to try too hard at being all things to all people. Always appreciated the simplicity and honesty of the Xterra and really thought Nissan's past tagline of "everything you need, and nothing you don't," was pretty spot on.
You're right, but that portion on the lower half of the fascia that is painted to look like metal (like a skid-plate) is where I am pointing my argument. Thanks for watching!
need to do some reviews on older 4x4 so we know what used cars/trucks/SUV we should buy. Do to this video and MANY others I am loving the xterra. I am looking at the 2000 SE. would like to see one go up these mountains... Thanks for the videos. One more thing would like to see " Top 10 offroad worthy under 5k and 10k. You guys should also do a cheap truck challenge.
I BUY THE NISSAN XTERRA 2012 WITH 2.5 L DIESEL ENGINE, 5-SPEED MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION VERY ECONOMICAL IN CONSUMPTION 45 KILOMETERS PER GALLON IN CITY AND 60 KILOMETERS PER GALLON IN EXTREMELY WINDY HIGH MOUNTAIN ROADS, THE XTERRA DIESEL HAS A GREAT TORQUE, SUPERIOR TO THE GASOLINE VERSION, WITH A MORE ROBUST ENGINE AND FOR THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF KILOMETERS, I HAVE OWNED TOYOTA, NISSAN , CHEVROLET FORD ETC, AND THE XTERRA IS THE BEST SUV I HAVE HAD IN 35 YEARS, THEY ARE POWERFUL, ROBUST RELIABLE SUVS, WITHSTAND USE AND ABUSE IN 4X4 WORK AND ON HIGH MOUNTAIN ROADS, AND CONTINUES TO WORK AS FROM THE FIRST DAY OF PURCHASE, THE TIRES ARE FROM PIRELLI SCORPION ALL-TERRAIN PLUS, I RECOMMEND THE XTERRA FOR ITS LOW MAINTENANCE COSTS, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF USE, IT HAS ONLY ASKED ME FOR CHANGES OF OILS, FILTERS, BRAKE PADS, AND TIRES, IS THE REAL LOW COST.
If the kid can't reach the door handle then he or she probably has no business opening it themselves anyway in the possibility of banging it into someone else's car parked next to you. I consider it a nice feature.
Honestly not that good, why because this Pro 4X was built for off road you know dirt, snow etc. when in driving in the freeway the suspension its very stiff, you can feel the bumps on the road pretty much everything but i was aware of this truck suspension but other than that its an awesome truck.
Quick question for you I test drove a 2015 pro-4x and it idled very hard to the point where the steering wheel and seats were vibrating. Do you have the same problem? The one that I test drove was brand new.
my 2015 pro 4x when i drove it for a test, it didnt vibrate at all, the idle on my truck its smooth so far no vibration and it already has 800 miles ( street & freeway) . Some trucks you need to brake it down meaning drive them a lot cause every part of the engine and tranny are new so when you test drive a truck or a car its only around the corner. Maybe if you ask the sales advisor you want to test drive the pro 4x in the freeway maybe once you drive it for a few miles the idle will go smooth and the vibration will be less and another thing sometimes the type of gas they used u always used chevron between 91 or 89..i noticed when I change to 87 my truck vibrates a little. Good luck.
yes is bad part the only way to fix this issue is add a extra cooler radiator and problem resolved $50 online my 2005 xterra and frontier got this issue but i add this cooler radiator and all was running fine, now i change for 2010 and all is just great that engine is for ever no leaks no problems always nissan or toyota
There was no transmission recall stop spreading false info. The earlier ones pre 2010 had issues with the radiator that contaminated the trans fluid. Issue has since been resolved many years ago.
stereo sound was very scratchy when listening with headphones lots of popping on the left speaker i know its not my headphones cuz i checked with one of your other videos check your microphone it might be going out
I went to the local Nissan dealership in Las Vegas, the largest dealership in the state, and they had ZERO Xterras on the lot. None! Hmmmm...I wonder what's going on at Nissan. If they are going to discontinue the model then they should do it. Seems pointless to make a vehicle that they don't really make...
It's a TRUCK ... meant for MEN who can hunt, kill ,& field dress a deer , start a fire without a Bic lighter , and keep a woman happy without cable TV - all night long , then be up by sun up and have breakfast ready on the campfire . Shifting gears is part of the game .
nissan xterra is a great suv, many people choose jeep is because is easy to sell , but times ago if you do not have for hammer buy a jeep, for me nissan is 200% better that jeep but is just a icon from USA like iphone but in the end nissan is and will be the best not matter what! who manufacture jeep can learn something from japanese trucks simple like that!
Check your facts: IIHS says: "In the Institute's roof strength test, a metal plate is pushed against 1 side of a roof at a constant speed. To earn a good rating, the roof must withstand a force of 4 times the vehicle's weight before reaching 5 inches of crush. This is called a strength-to-weight ratio. For an acceptable rating, the minimum required strength-to-weight ratio is 3.25. A marginal rating value is 2.5. Anything lower than that is poor." You're saying I weigh 4X the Xterra's weight?
I think it is because the vehicles themselves were designed to be very... focused. They have a specific appeal to a specific type of driver. Since they lack a more general, 'main stream' appeal.... by that I mean soccer moms and dads that are too embarassed to drive a minivan, so they get an SUV instead... you know the types. Pristine tires and rims, no brush scratches in paint... vehicle never went off road. Xterras kinda suck for that crowd. As was pointed out, the door handles are a PITA for small kids. Nissan designers and engineers weren't thinking 'minivan substitute' when they designed it. The interior is cheap hard plastic everwhere even in the top trim set. In short, it's design priorities are less appealing to mainstream SUV buyers, even if those same priorities are exactly what endear them the off-road crowd. Most people that want an SUV would probably be happier something more 'main stream', probably even a crossover.... which is why the crossovers are taking over anyway. So that leaves used Xterras with narrower, smaller market focus than most of their competitors. And I _think_ that drives the price artificially low. There are just more potential buyers for a Toyota 4Runner, or Jeep Wrangler than an Xterra. That smaller buyer pool means slower/harder to sell, that translates to artificial deflation of market value. I'm looking at a 2012 right now, and it is just killing the 'bang for the buck' quotient. Whole lotta truck for the price. But the truck is intended to appeal to people like me that will load up some gear, throw a kayak on the roof and disappear into the mountains of Colorado with his dog every weekend. If I want this to haul groceries and kids to and from school... well, there are better options. But for _some_ people who's priorities are perhaps a bit out of sync with mainstream consumers, but DO line up with the Xterra, they scratch their heads wondering why such a great truck is so cheap. And frankly, it's because of the soccer mom or dad that won't even look at one, but loves her Rav4. And that's great, that market is well served with options, and someone like myself can get a great deal on the overlooked Xterra. Horses for courses. For some the Xterra is a poor choice, for me it's just about perfect. Shrug. This time the price breaks in my favor, so... yay I guess.
How ignorant, Leaf spring is a must for proper off roading. Much more articulation for much more flex and grip than Independent suspension. There is Independent up front though, Jeeps have both with Leaf.
but jeep is just publicity /american icon like iphone and cheap insurance if you buy american car otherwise japanese trucks is the best on the world simple like that if you paid for high price jeep better a toyota or nissan!!!!
At 6000 feet elevation with a base crank HP of 261, you're looking at about 50 hp loss vs sea level. add into that the weight of the vehicle and the parasitic loss from the drivetrain and the poor truck is probably putting out less than 190 hp at the wheels at that elevation. That would probably explain the lackluster 0-60 because its rated at 7.5 seconds with the auto trans at sea level.
W'reNot CameltoeMisfits do you want to sleep in it or throw large objects/tools in the back? If 4x4 is the ticket get the SUV. Better weighted front to back for grip
I bought a 2015 xterra pro4x, same color with the manual 6 speed. It is a JOY to drive every single day!

I keep a jump box in that compartment under the floor in the back. It's perfect for that.
Not sure what Nathan is complaining about the roof lights; turn the high beams on first and them the roof lights, that's it.
Nah...still a PITA. I have used mine a few times in the 4 years I've owned it.
Ferreal... it’s easy as pie. And it makes sense why they would do that.
Correct..that simple.. Turn on high beam then push off road lamps and voila ! Makes sense as to not have them on accidently..them lights are Bright !!
They just not making full frame SUV's like this anymore. Great for winter driving, pulling your boat and fishing the back lakes in Canada.

why was it so slow and why was the temp so close to the half mark it should be below 25 % when its this new
What does the age of the car have to do with the engine's temperature?
I timed the 0-60 with my phone 3 times. The average was 9.89 seconds. Not a bad time considering the elevation.
It's faster than that more like mid to late 7's at Sea level. Mind you to get the full HP also use premium fuel😎
If only they could add another 2 inches of leg room the xterra would be in my driveway now.
I remember a rollover test where the Xterra roof supported over 12,000 lbs. Im sure nathan's 200 or so lbs is gonna matter much.

Man, it would be real nice if Pajero's were available in North America.
nice t shirt!!!
You mean the Nissan Pathfinder?
Wowzers, maybe I could live with 17 mpg but 14 or 15?? I don't think so :(
At 6000 feet elevation with a base crank HP of 261, you're looking at about 50 hp loss vs sea level. add into that the weight of the vehicle and the parasitic loss from the drivetrain and the poor truck is probably putting out less than 190 hp at the wheels at that elevation. That would probably explain the lackluster 0-60 because its rated at 7.5 seconds with the auto trans at sea level.
And i believe that's on premium fuel as well😎
4:49 4:50 "This section here" voice crack much?
I think ur 0-60 was 9.5secs

Which Pro-4x is the better choice? Frontier or Xterra?
W'reNot CameltoeMisfits do you want to sleep in it or throw large objects/tools in the back? If 4x4 is the ticket get the SUV. Better weighted front to back for grip
