This is a DAMN GOOD show.
I know! Thank you very much UA-cam!!
Emmett is wise beyond his years.
I loved the moms wit and sarcasm in these episodes😚
Her sarcasm borders on passive-aggressive behavior which is a form of dysfunctional communication. However, since she's a "sacred cow" not too many people would agree.

Can't Get Enough of this show Back then And Now
When TV was actually enjoyable! Miss programming like this! 🖤 Thank you for sharing this with us!
James Broderick seems like such a gentle & loving soul. I did find 2 youtube videos of Sada & Kristy getting their Emmys. They both thanked 'Jim' Broderick with such loving affection. When I first started watching the clips I thought Matthew Broderick isn't really like his Dad. But as I get to know his Dad more and more each week. I see the same gentleness that James had in his son Matthew. But James is definitely the favourite of the two Broderick man. So thank you to @xanthas71 for posting these clips. xxx
Good episode. I thought the ending was going to be Emmett being forced to go to his aunt against his will and he and Willy saying a teary goodbye and Willie promising to stay in touch. I loved that Emmett had the confidence to say, no man, I'll be ok, I got skills. And that he wasn't afraid to tell Willie he wasn't going to be a substitute for his dead wife. This kid could probably have had his own spin-off show.
Wow!!!!! So deeply appreciated thank you for making it possible for us to enjoy these shows again
💜O M Gee! I was just a little kid drooling over Emmett!💜
This is a first time for me seeing this! It’s so about family and it’s a good feeling inside after you watch it. Thank you

Thanks again for posting these trips down memory lane. That "YMCA" was my jr high gymnasium back when they still called it jr high. And the elephant slide in the park brought back memories I had forgotten about! A lot in the city this show was filmed in is very much the same, but some things have changed.
It's fun to stay at the YMCA
I always loved Willie
"Willie was married at 17? Why not just make the character at least 19?"
Was wondering the same. I hadn't even known he'd been married. And when he was told he's just a minor, I thought, he's not even eighteen?
Seems like an inconsistency among the script writers; happens quite often. He was not of age when he married Lizzie?
The end of this episode is priceless, haha. Love this show
They never showed Willie have an interest in music now they said he knows how to play the guitar and it's a music teacher at the YMCA. First time seeing this one it was really good. Thanks for uploading
I do recall an early episode where he picks up a guitar and sings with Nancy’s husband on piano and some family members...
He plays guitar on Christmas Eve with his family, the episode where Annie tries to go to Seattle
Kate made sure all of the children were exposed to music as she is a musician and music teacher.
Willie does a really good acting job in this episode.
Emmett was a sharp cookie. He knew everything!
thank-you to gregory denallo for writing this story! We all can make up stories. You have encouraged me to continue writing my stories.
It must have been difficult for Kate to be immersed in the worldly transition from doing what was honorable & good to " if it feels good-do it"!
wow. I feel like this smart homeless boy just washed my head. Thanks dude!
Do you have a bad afro too?

Finally! We see the reason for Willie's incredibly LONG fingernails!! Seasons ago, it was figured he was a guitar/banjo-picker (in real life) with those carefully scalloped nails (R>L). But often the character hid his hands in his pockets, under things, etc. Now we can rest. Those are pickin' fingers. Yay! Good job Willie. Pick away!
I like the music he played in the opening scene.
12 string? I wish he'd played more.
It's beautiful, isn't it??
Okay so it's complicated. Willie recently lost his wife, Emmet needs a father-figure. Willie wants to do good in the world but is a bit confused about how.
I dig his hair
What a beautiful song Willie was playing at the beginning! I wanted to strangle Buddy for making him stop.
I find it surprsiing and interesting that these young adults have such trouble being launched from the home. I was born in 1950 and it was 18 and out in my family.
That's really sad! 18 you would be in college most likely. My parents hated to see us all leave, we mostly did upon getting married! Must be an Italian thing lol. My brother had a girlfriend in high school, the family of 8 kids were each literally THROWN out at 17. She had nowhere to go so we took her in. To this day she sends my parents cards on every occasion, expressing how much she appreciated their love and care.
because many people who are well-off socioeconomically coddle their children into adulthood, as they have enough money to have them as dependents after they grow up, plus their kids are used to privilege, having things handed to them, and life being easy. These are the same people who have college degrees but say there aren't any jobs because they refuse to take any jobs that are lower than what their degree is for.
It has nothing to do with having trouble “ launching” one self! Not every parent thinks the second their child turns 18 they are done parenting and it’s “ there’s the door kids” ! I was raised in a large Italian family and we lived at home until we either married or got ourselves established . I am SOOO happy I had the parents I did that gave me the opportunity to do that . And it is NOT coddling .. it’s called LOVE❤️ my child is in college now and they still live with me and I am FINE with that ! It’s part of my responsibility to getting them ready to be on their own in the world ….
My parents said nothing about me living with them until I married, but when I got a job I had to pay rent. Not much but just to help out with food and all.
@@TheaddoraSame here. I was allowed to live at home rent-free as long as I was in school; but the minute I decided not to go to school (college) anymore, I was expected to pay rent. Only $200 a month in the late 80s- more to make a point I think than anything else. But I was never asked to move out 😊
When Buddy take about Puzzle she is sad! But she great with Willie's friend!
Rodney Section Buddy was sad because Lizzie died 2 months before!
Dorian harewood was also in against all odds with Rachel ward
I really liked this show when it first ran. I was Buddy's age. This was my house: Mom: How was your day? Me: (wincing) Fine. The End.
Your very lucky to have had a mom like Kate. I’m buddy’s age too.
Kirk Calloway was FINE!!!
Amoooooo🎉
How did Willie get married if he is a minor? Some things in this episode don't fit. Willie is a minor and he is going to find a place to live.
I think he was old enough to get married, but not old enough to be a foster or adoptive parent.
Good question
Willie needs to talk his parents first before making promises. He's in no position to be anyone's guardian.
In the opening I thought Wille was playing "Stephanie" by Buckingham Nicks! 💖
It sounds as if Buddy was playing "Color My World" by Chicago on the piano
@@XxowendanxX i believe she was! that's what i heard!
@@KennethofTroy I'm not a piano player but it sounds like it'd be an easy tune to play
And it moves to New Orleans then move to Atlanta where he meets is future baby mother then he had Clifford Harris born September 25th 1980 who later becomes rapper TI multi-millionaire so I think everything worked out for this guy lol
Kaleah Collins are you saying the actor who played Little Brother is Ice T
The young actor is TI's Dad?
This is interesting to know.

What was bothering Buddy at the piano?
All of Emmett's prying questions about Willie's personal life
It was the few times THAT they had a BLACK as the main storyline in the six years
"Full Metal Jacket" anyone?
LOL Willie doesn't know that he is a rich kid, omggg
Comfortable.
Maybe Doug never had a big house payment because that was his father's house and they drive pinto type cars - except for princess Nancy who could have got her beemer or Mercedes in divorce?
Most privileged people act completely oblivious to their privilege. To them, life has just always been that way.
I think it is because Willie knows he hasn't established himself in the world to live a rich life. His father is rich and that benefited Willie. But on his own, he doesn't have much money yet.
I wish they could get the old gang back together, whoever is left and do a Christmas in the old house.
when 25 year olds play 14 year olds...
This might only sound funny to African American people but this guy must be the rapper TI father he sounds the same exact way he does walk the same talks the same if he says expeditiously I'm definitely stuck
Kinda favors Jaden Smith too
@@mellowyellow403 Don't insult the actor. I don't like Smith family
OMGGGGG I was just thinking how he reminds me of TI !!!
This is a cute episode with a logical conclusion. However, I can't help but think that the Lawrences should have adopted Emmett. That way, Annie wouldn't have been needed and even Willie would have had more material to work with than random love interests.
By the way, Emmett means truth in Hebrew. That can't be a coincidence since the character is so honest and sharp.
I guess. As long as this episode was before different strokes. Then it would be a copy cat. And this show is at least trying to be real. Back then, it wasn't cool for whites to adopt darker people for the fun of it. I personally think the plot would have worked, but Ann was a better fit only for that reason. I don't like the fact that they brought her on probably because ratings were bad and they needed a new kid.
willie had a wife!?
Yes! But she died
She died of shame
Radiation poisoning from a lab.
Does Willie ever find himself?
How old was Lizzie? Willie was a minor who was married to how old a woman?
hahaha, seriously. I didn't know two minors could get married.
@@marjoriecohn3868with signed parental consent
Willie was still a minor who married a woman in college working on her Ph.D. It's a great plot but it has holes in it when you put the pieces near each other.
Never liked how Buddy talked to her parents.

I think the afro proved to be a fire hazard. Didn't Richard Pryor and Michael Jackson both burn down during this period? I may be wrong... it could have been during the Eighties... I'm not sure...
@@afwalker1921 MJ's hair caught on fire in 84 when he was shooting a Pepsi commercial 💩🔥 Richard Pryor set himself on fire freebasing I'm not sure when maybe early 90s
@@XxowendanxX Thanks for the information! I knew they both combusted- I vaguely remember sending donations to the Ignited Negro College Fund in their honor- but I couldn't remember what decade. Enjoyed this until a buddy's line at the end. The wages of sin are death.
Was Emmott from the deep south or what?
Willie got married, got a place to live and he was a minor. Did he graduate high school?
Nope. He dropped out. I'm thinking the "minor" remark maybe refered to his being under the age of 21.
