This is one of the better videos I've seen explaining some of the technical & specific details of what is needed to sell food out somewhere (such as a festival, etc). The other videos of other people just give generic information and say things like "check with your state government" or "check with your city". I say to these people, "Okay, but what specific DEPARTMENT do we contact in our state or city?". At least you give specific details about the subject you are talking about (the Health Dept). These other people don't give specific details and its frustrating. By the way, in my internet searches, I still haven't found what specific department I'm suppose to go to in order to be sure I'm doing everything legal. It's almost like its a secret...
What city and state are you in. Type in health inspection and your city. Also you can contact city hall also they will help you get in touch with the person. I found out almost any local city agency will help you get to the right people in chat. Thanks for the kind words. Let us know if you are unable to find the local health inspector we can help you with that. Thanks
Love your videos. Good info to know and should follow. Here is the but. Not festivals require health certificates. I do about 25 fest a year here in New Orleans and only one festival requires health department. Only two requests food handles training. Good or bad let the festival tell you what is required. And you right about only give the information they want don’t give more that just makes them ask more questions
thank you so much for your knowledge in this matter, but I have a few questions. 1. how are you supposed to keep warm water coming out of your water to wash your hands. 1A. where are you getting water to refill? do you have to bring your own or should the place that you're vending from have access to water? 2. is when your bucket fills up with you washing your hands where are you supposed to dispose of it? It seems like you have to catch all of the nasty in the bucket but it's ok to just chuck that water somewhere?
Every event is different ask the organizers. Some have water some don't. One of the easy ways we found is to use a lard coffee pot from Sam's to heat the water. Yes unfortunately its more work and you have to catch the water. So be mindful of how much you use. Call your help department they can help you too
So i live in houston and im so stressed out trying to understand how to get a permit to sell lemonade also if the event coordinator pulls a permit for that event you dont need a permit according to what the houston health department worker
Hi don't be stressed, call up your local health department. You always need a licence, if you are part of an event the event coordinator might submit all the licenses, but each business will need there own. Remember there are short term, seasonal and yearly permits. Thanks
Hi there, great video! I have a couple of questions. For a temporary food stand. Do you also need a seller's permit? and Does the health inspector show up on the day you start selling?
Hi, it all depends what city and state you are from. What type of operation do you have. If you can describe it. You would need to have a sales tax number and possibly others. Most bigger events an health inspector will be on site for inspection If it's a small event or you are by yourself it is best to contact your local health inspector and ask them every place is a little different. Let us know
I live in Orange county, CA. I wanted to do a soft serve pop up stand. It would consist of 2 soft serve machines with a few generators, tables, a portable small refrigerator and a topping bar. We thought about getting a food truck and custom it but it's very expensive. The events we were thinking of doing is small crafts fair, farmers markets and maybe a existing retail space. For the existing space would be rented for 1 day. No renovation, just set up a stand. I will definitely contact the health department for more information. I love your video! I'll give you an update😁
I am not sure you can use Walmart or Sam's. Your commissary kitchen should be a restaurant or a commercial kitchen. The product you buy you will list that on the suppliers. Let us know if you have more questions
Brother here is my situation, I’m trying to sell fruit cocktails in Farmer’s Markets in Nevada, and I don’t know if it’s me or if everything here is super complicated. What should I do if I want to sell at different markets let’s say 5,6 days per week at DIFFERENT locations. The temporary food permit allows me to use it for up to 14 days but at the same location. So how can I do that? How can I sell at different markets the same week. Do I need one permit per location? Because each one would be 130$ plus market fees…I’m definetly lost in the process but highly motivated. I would pay for mentoring hours but this is really time sensitive…I’m doing this for my mom and me and I’m unemployed and we have to make this happen ASAP because we want it to be our full time occupation. Thanks beforehand.
Hi thanks for the questions. Sorry we just saw it now. Yes we can help you. We can schedule a time to talk. I would recommend to focus on 1 and make it sustainable and profitable. Doing to many will actually be counter productive. Every health department is different with different rules. I am glad you are motivated let's look at the big picture and create a plan.
I appreciate this information given. I wanted to ask. Does this process need to be ventured if you're selling plates? Already cooked at home kinda thing.
@@MobileFoodBooth Indeed. My lady and I cook a large variety. So for my new release music, I want to have plates at engagements, or offered for purchase. Is why i asked.
This depends on what state you live in right i live in tx can you plz help me understand the process when ever you may get a chance please and thank you im trying to sell AGUAS FRESCAS I went to the Houston health department but they seamed lost them selves as to what I needed since is just fruit waters with ice 🧊
Your going to need a refrigerator to store raw meat. Check with your local health department for storing temperature. About 165 degrees in the center is a well cooked burger.
This sink requirement is a real buzzkill. I wanted to just serve Italian ice out of a cooler with dry ice and disposable cups but some of these portable sinks online are absurdity expensive

What about if you’re selling in front of a building that gives permission to sell food on their property?
