    If I were in charge I'd have a reprinting(or at least have a downloadable PDF) of ALL the old rules sets and a new adventure that was translated(for lack of a better term) into all of them. I'd focus on bringing together fans of all the editions and trying to get them to once again remember why they love the game so much. I'd take old premade adventures and update them into new editions. I'd also host play groups of all the editons at rented out places or local game stores across the country featuring the new adventure I previously mentioned as well as the updated older adventures.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  5 місяців тому +1

      some of that I can see as being very doable, especially offering things in a pdf format. the renting out of places might be a touch on the difficult side though. But yeah.. can you imagine walking into a shop and they are hosting an od&d game? that would be mighty fun.

      @@gamemasters every local game store I've ever been to has a place to play table top games. On any given day it's either taken up by Warhammer or D&D. So all they'd have to do is work with a bunch of LGS to plan an event. Or better yet have a specific night set aside for D&D, much like Friday Night Magic. Some stores already do something like this. It would be awesome to see several tables and each one playing the same adventure in a different rules set. I've been toying with the idea of releasing a premade adventure(or possibly an entire campaign setting) for years and if I ever do it's gonna be in all the different rules sets that I can do without getting in trouble.

    That was the Efreet from the old AD&D books. Anyway: WotC could release a commemorative dice set in metal. I mean, really, the options are endless. I'd like to see full print runs of the Holmes D&D boxed set personally.

    If I was in charge? I would host the first ever DungeonCon. The company Blizzard, however dubious their corporate practices, knew how to have a celebration through BlizzCon.
    DungeonCon would have 2 hosted games with our new developing IP's, starring some of the industries favorites like (insert YT celeb here), presentations (mixed media) of where the past, present and future of D&D lie. A couple of D&D vignettes starring such talent as (insert YT celeb here). And the evening would include a performance by the band Tenacious D. (With fire &dragon props in the style of our upcoming Lego line).

    Well, either Greyhawk... or... they did reference Mystara in Planescape and talk about a long neglected setting!

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  5 місяців тому

      ya know.. yes.. they have mentioned Mystara.. uhm.. now I gotta remember where.. seems like it was in a passing paragraph in the beginning of a book..

    • @TheGothInRome
      @TheGothInRome 5 місяців тому

      @@gamemasters One of the early characters waa from a world called Mystara as I recall.
      That being said there are a few things I could point to that might be interesting for a 50th anniversary.
      Mystara
      Why?: It is the OG D&D setting and Planescape was its first mention in 27 years. Yep, Mystara last had a publication in 1996.
      Why Not?: Outside of old folks, nobody remembers what the hell Mystara is so it might not be terribly successful.
      Greyhawk
      Why?: It was Gygax's campaign setting and as he created D&D it would be a nice homage to the creator
      Why Not?" Apparently Gary is racist and people WotC markets to these days don't like him. Paying Homage to Gygax might not align with their values.
      Oriental Adventures
      Why?: It is probably the setting that would sell the best. Given how popular Asian culture and tropes have become in the west it would likely draw in some new players as well. Also, if they are intending to sell to Tencent, then having something like that on the books could sweeten the deal for the Chinese market.
      Why Not? Well again, WotC says it is racist because reasons so... you know... probably not getting that either.
      Dark Sun
      Why? Spawned Video games and would provide the gritty setting a lot of players are looking for.
      Why not? Well, it has slavery and apparently that is offensive... and seeing as how removing things like that would kinda make the setting a shadow of its former self and WotC is surely aware of it. They likely know making changes like that would piss people off, but they allowed Clerics in Krynn...so you know... it wouldn't be the first time they pissed on lore lovers.
      Tales from the Infinite Staircase +
      Why? This might very well be the 50 year anniversary book. It was written by Monte Cook originally, basically touches all the planes and if it was paired with a separate full-book size monster manual of planar creatures (presumably making it cost 2x the normal price) It would make planescape far more viable as things stand now. I could only really see it being the 5th anniversary thing if it did include a full sized monster manual though.
      Why Not? Given that Monte Cook is now a competitor, although in the eyes of WotC a rather insignificant one, It might not be the giving them any attionion. I have a hard time believing that they would release an anthology as a 50th anniversary book. I just don't see it happening.
      Draconomicon
      Why? Fizbans left out a lot of dragons, no, not the types of dragons but the named dragons which were fleshed out in Dragon Magazine... Dragons mind you which have appeared in a LOT of modules for 5e. Claugiyliamatar and Voaraghamanthar were both mentioned in Tyranny of Dragons, Felgolos was in Storm Kings Thunder, Arveiaturace was in Rime of the Frost Maiden. Seems like a lot of references to stop there, besides a compilation of dungeons for high level play could be popular given the lack of high-level content.
      Why Not? Not really any reason, dragons are half the name of the game, unless you include the &
      Absolutely Nothing
      Why?: Employee morale is in the trash, and if Tencent is serious about buying WotC the staff there have to know their odds aren't good for remaining gainfully employed. The Chinese Market isn't going to buy what WotC is selling and in fact several works could be outright not be tolerated... Rime of the Frostmaiden, Descent into Avernus, Wild beyond the Witchlight and Radiant Citadel just to name a few. I won't go into the reasons, but I trust you can figure it out. The team making those creative decisions is not likely to remain employed if Tencent snipes them, I think they are smart enough to know it, so i doubt there is much celebrating among Team D&D right now.

      I'm pretty sure that that article regarding Tencent was either mistranslated or not reported accurately. Would make much more sense for them to want the license to go d&d video games (like with their ties to BG3) rather than the entire IP. Hasbro can make loads more money just doling out license after license.

    off the top of my head, I would do a stream of a one shot campaign featuring DnD celebrities such as the cast from Honor Among Thieves and Baldurs Gate.
    I would push a 50th anniversary set featuring a one shot and short and a long campaign, with deluxe Dice, a map and minis, as well as a poster.

    I would have loved this for the 50th anniversary:
    1. The books come out at the same time worldwide for all the languages they officially translated 5e.
    2. There is a worldwide event to play the Eve of Ruin campaign in local game stores with WotC sponsored DMs. So that everyone gets to play the campaign at the same time. Two sessions per level, one session each week. Spanning 40 weeks in total.

    The "Greyhawk" supplement for OD&D came out in 1975, although it wasn't a proper setting book -- just a collection of Gygax's house rules. In any case, it was the first mention of Greyhawk, so I would think 2025 would be be an ideal time to release an "Anniversary Edition" supplement for 5E.

      Aye, the supplement itself was 1975, Greyhawk however, had existed in Gygax's home game for years prior. I'd say they need need to lose the Star Wars sequel attitude of kill the past and bring us some settings or modules from older editions that still haven't seen love from the company in a while. Celebrate the fact they've been around so long and bring us another setting like Greyhawk (as much as I like Dark Sun it's far too dark and mature on themes for 5e to not have to neuter it), bring back the crossover they did with Diablo. I'd have added Rokugan but I'm pretty sure that's under new management.
    Just last year the Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh TCGs hit their 25th anniversaries. Pokemon releasing small packs with the 25th stamp filled with legendary creatures with new art and a chance of retro reprints with the new textured foiling and 25th stamp.
