I spent literally a couple years dismissing the Zfold because of the narrow cover screen and the lack of periscope zoom lens. I just figured I'd stick with the S ultra until Samsung made a Zfold ultra. But then the OnePlus Open dropped and I jumped to buy one. And after that I was hooked on the foldable experience. The only thing that the OnePlus Open was missing was OneUI. So I traded my secondary phone, my iPhone and got the Zfold 5. And after almost a month I absolutely love my Zfold 5. So, I think the Z Fold 5 will perfectly fit into the 3-device strategy that I am employing for myself. Thanks again for your content and the reviews and I hope you have a good one.
I tried to share an interview. Who would benefit from what. So I did recently review the pixel fold. I see both of the devices very positively. But it really depends on what type of aspect ratio you're looking for. Hopefully the videos help in some way. I find myself torn. Also. The pixel fold is definitely a little too heavy. If I were to do more multitasking, I would actually prefer it on the pixel fold. Because it's like two wide screens in one, it would be great to have two apps open and in that way maybe it would be a little better than the Galaxy Fold since the screen is narrow but tall. But realistically I just don't do that very much. The Galaxy Fold is lighter, it is more refined, it has Samsung dex. I think it's probably the better foldable for most people
Me and my family uses 4 x fold4 devices which all purchased at launch. We have been holding back from first iterations as we hoped the foldable devices to get more mature and durable at later generations. We finally thought 4th generation would be the time to buy in that matter. But all our devices had hinge issues and inner screen issues with no user fault. Every single one of them had inner screen issues and hinge issues and some of them twice! I found out that they used a new hinge mechanism for fold 4. It makes the hinge much less durable. They used brushes to give fold 4 some resistance to dust. These brushes push dust particles outside while folding and unfolding the device. Yet they used some kinda thin double sided tape to stick these brushes near the hinge. The double sided tapes come loose by time and heat and these double sided thin tapes get into the hinge and stuck there once they become loose. This makes the hinge unrepairable by the user himself and device must go to service eventually. And even worse the malfunctioned hinge damages the inner screen in not much time. That's a time period about 6-9 months. Samsung makes the first repair with no charge the first time but later times or after 2 years of guaranty you are all left alone. Repairs are very expensive. The fold 4 is very pleasant to use and once you get used to it you don't wanna get back to a candy bar phone. But with these durability issues, i don't think i can count on any other foldable phone from Samsung anymore. Because i'm using my device for work, i guess i will have to get back to S24 ultra soon which is built like a tank. I wish they designed these foldables in a way to not sabotise itself with simple bad design choices in terms of durability.
Not to dismiss your experience, but it's entirely countered by other numerous dissimilar experience of other people who have a fold 4 in perfect working order. To me, the crux of the matter is you saying "with no user fault", well then how did the hinge break? Numerous tests have already been done testing the folding mechanic, so it's definitely not because you've closed / opened the device too much. But yes, Samsung S lines are built like a tank, and I imagine if you handle the fold like a tank, when it's not, then of course that's where the problem lies.
@@estoylaroca with all my respect i guess you missed my point. Fold4 hinge doesn't get damaged because of folding and unfolding. It gets damaged by brush getting lose by time and probably temperature and getting stucked in hinge. A simple google search " fold4 hinge brush" could take you to lots of articles about the same design issue. It's a wellknown fact that fold4 hinge-brush is a time bomb. Our experiences with fold4 devices proven it for us. With mentioning that, i still couldn't resist upgrading to fold 6 instead of s24 ultra and i'm hoping that they fixed this issue for good.
Had all the folds and now on number 5 but I can no longer access settings through the settings app I now have type in manually what I'm looking for on settings and can no longer connect headphones via Bluetooth but other than that it's been the best fold phone so far
That's mostly true. But I think of it in terms of raw value. For example, if they offer you $850 for a Galaxy s23 Ultra, but you have the ability to sell it yourself for $600, even if it's on Facebook or something, to me. They're only giving you $250 off at that point. I often find that about 2 months in or even one month in the price. Will drop to about $1,200 or $1,300 on swappa or eBay anyway. And as long as you buy an unlocked one, those will still be in warranty. So you could theoretically sell your phone, and get it for a cheaper price at that point. But it's okay to pay a little bit extra to get it new and to get it when it comes out. Obviously. I do agree that Samsung has a lot of great trade-in deals. And those can make it more enticing. Dropping an $1,800 foldable to like $1,500 practically is actually a good deal. My thoughts on the Z fold 6 are pretty good. It's going to have a wider cover screen, which is exactly what people have been wanting. It's going to make it a lot more enticing. And they are going to bring more power to the device, maybe better cameras. Who knows, but they also plan to keep working on the durability. I know the Z fold 5 and the Z flip 5 have been more durable than previous versions and I know they continue to get more and more durable. And like I said in the video, there are ways around a lot of minor issues, simply working with the uBreakiFix store. Can pretty easily get your screen protector replaced. And a lot of people won't have issues with the cracks. Especially on the newer devices. Because they are a little more durable. My feelings are that it's a great phone, you are paying a premium for the form factor, so you really really have to want the form factor to pay that type of money, practically speaking. Obviously you could get a better value getting a good phone and a good tablet on the used market or something. But if you're willing to pay that premium, you can get a really nice device for the money. And the Z Fold 6 is going to be the best foldable out. Or very close. And practically Samsung is the best for repairability because they have strong partnerships with stores. Hopefully this helps
Other than the obvious processor upgrade, the camera has already been stated to be the same. Not sure which upgrades you're referring to other than a possibly wider outer display
@@andrewc31394 not sure i'd deem that wider screen an upgrade at all... I love one-handed use, and for content the narrow+tall aspect ratio while unfolded also makes more sense
@86669Tommy yeah, the outcry over the outer screen is goofy. And its still easy to use 2 hands if youve owned any other smartphone before 2018. I think young people are just used to these giant phones now and havent been around long enough to have gotten used to the standard size over the decades.
I heard the cover screen will be wider! A lot of improvements, but that's still months away, and the price of the Z Fold 5 might go down and go on sale for some. So I don't blame people for making a move.
I'm curious what people will say. I haven't. But consider that there typically is a deductible. I will say in general, Samsung customer service can be a little bit poor and have a longer turnaround time on some warranty issues compared to other manufacturers. I don't know if that applies to their insurance, but if you have insurance, at least you know they will cover it. Some people get cracks down the middle and it's clearly a warranty issue, but they will say it's physical damage and people have to fight them, because obviously folding phones can crack without physical damage. And they have a very rough track record with that. But obviously with insurance, if you are making a claim, you're paying your deductible you won't have those issues, you may just have poor customer service from a center overseas, but generally I'd expect them to take care of you. If you are in the US, you can consider Best Buy. For $180, if you buy a phone from Best Buy (even open box) the insurance will cover it for up to two years, assuming you pay the $180 the next year, but it also covers every single electronic that you buy from Best buy, your computers, your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. So if you expect to buy more tech it could be a good value to get insurance on several things you buy, plus you could get a good open box deal. Samsung Care can still be good though, but I'm curious like you for people to share their experiences. Maybe Google "Samsung Care fold 5 reddit" and see what people have to say on Reddit.
I finally ditched my iphone after 2 years for a fold 5 after getting a great discount and man the experience is just night and day. I love the fact that I'm holding a phone that turns into a mini tablet. My officemates (iphone users) are amazed every time they see the flex mode and just opening and closing the device.Multitasking is also next level, I can watch Yt while replying to my friends at the same time. Honestly I switched to an iphone because of status but aside from that it was boring. I can say the fun is back now that I'm using the fold and my iphone user can't brag about their phone because mine is more expensive.😂
I'll be honest about the cover screen. To me, it's 50/50, which is definitely not a bad thing. I have the S23U, the screen is big (big enough for me to reconsider whether the inner screen of a fold is "worth" to switch to), but it definitely has its downsides. I'm just a little bit above avg in terms of size, so the s23u, although it has its 1 hand mode, is just too big sometimes to use with 1 hand typing, or walking and doing some stuff with 1 hand with it. With the Fold, I wouldn't say it's the "perfect' size for me (cover screen), because at times, it is indeed small when typing. Again, I don't have the biggest hands, but I will say that it is not "difficult" to use with 2 hands, but just a little inconvenient, or to put it in another way, I'd just PREFER it a lil bigger. Although that's what I say about typing and using media on the cover screen, I just like how sleek and small it is when you're holding it. So yeah, I both like how small it is, and also how I'd prefer if it would be a little bigger.
I traded in my Fold 3 for the S23 Ultra. It’s a great phone but I miss the screen on the Fold. My dilemma is, should I just get the Fold 5 now or wait for the Fold 6 which will probably be here in a few months…
If you're super desperate, find a Fold 5 for like $800ish on ebay. Find one from a seller that's at least 99% feedback and find one in really good condition, that has the screen protector installed still. In a couple months, you can trade it in probably for like $1,000 off the new fold. Just an idea. I heard they have two different versions of the folds that are coming out though. That's the only thing that makes that plan a little iffy. You may prefer the cheaper fold. But if you know you're going to want the best one, you might want to just buy it now and trade later. I can't guarantee good trade-ins. But in the US they are normally pretty good
For sure. If you get it for that type of price, it's definitely a great device to have. I always struggled to recommend folding phones for $1,800. A lot of reviewers talk about them as if that's the only option. But the truth is, a few months after release, you can find these for under $1,000 pretty quickly. So happy that you got a good deal. Enjoy it
Former owner here with a few #gripes: the #biometrics, can't use the #spen on the outer screen, and the inner screen scratches too easily or sometimes doesn't respond. Otherwise, great #fold! 👍📱
Trying to decide whether I want to ho with the pixel fold or z fold 5 coming from s21+ I already love the Samsung eco system , I don't mind the cover screen of the fold 5 though I really love the form factor of the pixel 5 but ultimately I want something that's going to last me the next few years and the pixel fold and that tensure chip has me a little like eh
I went from the S21 Ultra to the Z Fold 5 In December. ZERO regrets.... S21 was great but I got so tired of slab phones. The Fold 5 is pretty darn incredible. I got almost a $1,200 trade-in thru Spectrum Mobile so total no-brainer! Battery life has been excellent... I'm normally at about 50% at day's end. Camera is really good and I became a fan of the front screen. The screens are gorgeous and that hinge and lack of a gap when folded makes the phone feel super premium.
@nvsteveg yeah that's another thing samsung had INCREDIBLE trade in value with their devices that I never knew about lol pretty much same deal I'm gonna get when I trade mines in and at spectrum too no less 🤣 I'm pretty excited everyone has told me the same thing they will go back to slab phones and that is just so exciting to me I love cutting edge stuff so I feel like im gonna be all in on the foldable going forward
In your case I'd go with the Z Fold 5. Or wait for the Z Fold 6. It's going to release around July from what I'm hearing. But at a higher price. If you get a really good deal on the fold 5, it's great. I think it will last you a lot longer than other foldables. I'm hearing rumors of a Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 6 Ultra though. But the Z Fold 5 is still amazing, and again, if you don't mind the aspect ratio, you get water resistance, you get a foldable that has been refined for several years, ubreakifix has a deal with Samsung for repairs, and screen protector replacements, and they accept mail-ins too. So you have a lot of support compared to other foldable makers. I think it's the best overall package for most people wanting a foldable. Even though I prefer the Pixel Fold, I prefer the ui, I can no doubt suggest the Samsung for you. Just my take. If you really want a wider aspect ratio, you will get it with the z fold 6 though.
Hey mate, there is a small red dot near your hat in the video that is still there when you move infront of it so its not on the wall behind you. At first, I thought it was a dead pixel on my screen, but I watched the video on another device, and it was still there. You can see it in some of the other shots as well, although it moves around. Thought I'd let you know. (Edit. Also seems like you can only see it on 1080p and higher)
To be honest, I think that's you. I'm watching it on UA-cam on my phone, on my computer, all on 4k. But if you let me know a specific part of the video maybe I can check it again. But I'm not seeing it at all
At 1:40 i can see it to the left of your hat. It's a small red dot and as I pause and zoom in it gets bigger. I've checked on my phone, my partner's phone and on our TV and it s visible on all of them.
@AndroidDigest if you zoom into the left side of your hat at 1:40 you can see a small red dot. I had a few of my friends who I here with me do the same on their phones and they can see it aswell (they all have different models). I hope its nothing but if you still can't see it let me know so I can check and see if there is a problem with all our phones. Regardless brilliant informative video!
How dare you make excuses for black bars on a foldable phone lol. That's the exact reason the zfold series will always be better. Opened up its 16:10 aspect ratio is movie quality. Pixel fold is like Amazon fire tablet... but expensive as fuck
I have a Z Flip 5, the front 'closed' cover screen lost its appeal real quick due to my middle aged eyes. Currently, I can trade in my Z Flip 5 for a Z FOLD 5 with trade in and $400 upgrade voucher with TOTAL cost to me being $600 Aussie Dollars! I'd be crazy NOT to do it as I know my eyes will thank me for it. Besides, I can then upgrade AGAIN for a Z Fold 6 in under 6 months time for probably less than $1'000 AUD to reap the benefits for ALL the NEW latest model tech. I will however miss the compact form factor of the Flip which is so handy clipped to side of my hip in a pouch clipped to belt. My eyes just aren't what they use to be for reading tiny text on that front folded screen of the Flip which was the main purpose I purchased it for.
I was in similar boat where I was looking to move to foldables, specifically from my s10+ to a Flip5, as I wanted a small form factor for having in my pocket. As much as I liked testing it, I ended up passing on the flip5 and instead got an iPhone 13 mini but kept my S10+ as a backup. The 13 mini works great as a strictly work phone but I still use my S10+ for everything else. I'm planning to finally retire the S10+ for the Zfold 6 but to use more specifically as a mini tablet. And if feeling really adventurous, test it out traveling with it to work to potentially replace the 13 mini, especially if the front cover for the fold6 will have Spen capabilities.
Wait so you tell me i have to give 1800$ to have a phone only for 2 or 3 years and also to replace my screen every year? What is this? I'm confused because i think i watch a car review (Im samsung fan boy btw)
Notice UA-cam doesn't go full screen on the fold 5! Whats the use of all that screen if it cannot be not untilized on youtube videos?! Kinda sad. Youre tricked into thinking youre watching a big screen but there are black blocks on either side of the screen! Also no micro sd card? But the no full screen on youtube is wack!
@@vict0ree I would like the 5 fold also. And I am asking myself should that be a deal breaker. I watch a lot of UA-cam videos so I am thinking about it. I don't like that they took away the ability to expand storage (copying iPhones strategies)
It's not good for that, that's for sure. The aspect ratio is good for scrolling, and productive work, reading if you scroll up and down, but it's a bad aspect ratio for videos. The Pixel Fold and some other foldables are a little more suited for video watching.
Finally, an honest review. I'm trying to decide if I should trade my Note 20 ultra for an S24 or Fold 5. Or......wait for newer phones later in 2024....🤦🤯
That's what I'm waiting for but it's gonna be towards the end of 2024... Maybe I'll get the fold 5 with my tax returns and when the new one comes out I can trade it for the 6

I made a video on foldable durability. Recently. Your post is very similar to my thoughts. Thanks for sharing your experience
The front screen size is GREAT.. You just don't know till you own one, it starts to just make sense.
I've gotten a lot of comments like that. People get used to it and enjoy it
Had all the folds and now on number 5 but I can no longer access settings through the settings app I now have type in manually what I'm looking for on settings and can no longer connect headphones via Bluetooth but other than that it's been the best fold phone so far
Sounds like a weird software glitch or something. Sorry you have to deal with that
Finally a Samsung guy who makes sense.
Thank you so much! It means a lot
Hey , from which site did you purchase zfold-5 teal blue cover ?
On Amazon, affiliate link here: amzn.to/49l9vAy and it's the icy blue version
I have the z fold 4 and I love it!!! When apple does a foldable I might go back haa
You use it as your main device? How do u send hd videos through text since you don’t have iMessage? Unless you don’t worry about that part
I love foldables for sure.
How's your battery life on your Fold 4? I had the Fold 4 but find the battery endurance is weaker so I switched to S23+
What are your thoughts on the zfold6 and it won’t be to expensive when you can trade in your current phone
You're better off waiting until August when the Z Fold 6 comes out! There's supposed to be some nice improvements.
@@AndroidDigest yup, i got the fold5 10 days ago for 55% of the retail price, and am super happy with it!
Do you have guys any experiences with extra service Samsung Care + for my Fold5? is worth it? Thanks a lot!
The Fold 6 is just big enough. It fixes that issue. But yeah. It's hit or miss with the Fold 5
Cover looks great. Can you send me the link from where did you buy? Thanks.
Added a link in the description for you. The description of the video
Right now I'm rocking the fold 3 and the s 22 ultra and I'm plotting on the fold 5 or 6 as the upgrade next year for my bday gift.
Not a bad idea!
Subbed after this video. You really are different
Thanks for the sub!
But in the US they are normally pretty good
where do you even buy the one plus open?
Best Buy. Or the OnePlus website
I just got this fold. It cost me $977. It's a nice device.
It has issues with the third app camera, not with Samsung camera.
I love it.
Enjoy it
I'm still rockin' with my z-flip 3 on Verizon 😢.
Nothing wrong with that. Keep pressing on.
@@AndroidDigest exactly. I don’t feel the need to have the latest and greatest anymore.
No biggie. Trade in time is coming soon for fold 6.
I just ordered got 800 off with a trade in. What kind of case are yku uaing it looks thin and love that blue. Thanks fkr the video!

The link is above. It's the Samsung Leather Cover.
Former owner here with a few #gripes: the #biometrics, can't use the #spen on the outer screen, and the inner screen scratches too easily or sometimes doesn't respond. Otherwise, great #fold! 👍📱
Thanks for sharing!
Cool review!
Thanks so much
Hey mate, there is a small red dot near your hat in the video that is still there when you move infront of it so its not on the wall behind you.
Because of the size, it looks like a single dead pixel until I zoom in
@AndroidDigest if you zoom into the left side of your hat at 1:40 you can see a small red dot. I had a few of my friends who I here with me do the same on their phones and they can see it aswell (they all have different models). I hope its nothing but if you still can't see it let me know so I can check and see if there is a problem with all our phones. Regardless brilliant informative video!
I'm seeing it too, looks like I dead pixel in the camera sensor. Once I saw it I couldn't unsee it. It moves a bit on different shots but always there
damn this thing has more ram and storage than my laptop.
Haha, it's packed, that's for sure.
How dare you make excuses for black bars on a foldable phone lol. That's the exact reason the zfold series will always be better. Opened up its 16:10 aspect ratio is movie quality. Pixel fold is like Amazon fire tablet... but expensive as fuck
I'm with you
I'm ordering mine next week
Hope you enjoy it
Ebay brand new for £850. I might buy after watching your video. Thanks.
pretty good deal!
I hear that. Hope you enjoy the Z Fold!
@@AndroidDigest So confused right now with the Z6 FE / Regular / Ultra release come August-September
Freaking love this device. I've been reading way more as a result of it, as well.
That's one thing I love about foldables. I appreciate that. It does help me to read more
Good comparison
Thanks so much
Wait so you tell me i have to give 1800$ to have a phone only for 2 or 3 years and also to replace my screen every year?
What is this?
I'm confused because i think i watch a car review
(Im samsung fan boy btw)
Yeah that's why I recommend buying it for like $900 on eBay or something. A lot easier to swallow.
Thank you for this comment. I was about to buy the fold 5 until I saw this because I using youtube alot. That is definitely wack.
@@vict0ree I would like the 5 fold also. And I am asking myself should that be a deal breaker.
I watch a lot of UA-cam videos so I am thinking about it.
I don't like that they took away the ability to expand storage (copying iPhones strategies)
You can go fullscreen
@@brendanfogel4573 it will just put 2 black boxes on either side of your full screen.
It's not good for that, that's for sure. The aspect ratio is good for scrolling, and productive work, reading if you scroll up and down, but it's a bad aspect ratio for videos. The Pixel Fold and some other foldables are a little more suited for video watching.
I bought a fold 4 and 5 love the 5
Am i the only person who uses swipe to use the front keyboard? i couldnt imagine using it like a normal keyboard.
I use swype too. I couldn't do anything else.
Finally, an honest review. I'm trying to decide if I should trade my Note 20 ultra for an S24 or Fold 5. Or......wait for newer phones later in 2024....🤦🤯
That's what I'm waiting for but it's gonna be towards the end of 2024... Maybe I'll get the fold 5 with my tax returns and when the new one comes out I can trade it for the 6
Just try folded phone bro, you will never go back to the reguler one 😂
I had the fold 3 and just went back to regular phone. Got the S24 ultra. Fold has way too many issues
Thanks, this comment means a ton!
Watching this on my zfold 3.. great phone
Thanks! I agree
Just ordered this phone in the blue online exclusive, where did u get the case from is it a genuine Samsung case ? Hope I like the phone as I am going from a iPhone 11 Pro Max to the z fold 5
It's the Samsung genuine leather case!
phones should last 5+ years ;-)
I agree!
I just want the pen to be built in! That's all I want😢😢
Yeah you'll need a case for that
Cameras are a lot better not a little better
Very subjective. But your free to share in the comments, appreciate you!
If they make the fold wider i will take my fold 5 and shatter it on the concrete and find a mini 13.
Haha. That's pretty extreme.
You can tell he's never really played asphalt 9 before 😂
Haha, don't hate on me, I don't play it too often. Not a big gamer.
You should give it more of a go. It's fun game, especially on the fold.
If you like Samsung, it's great
3.1.24😮
What do you mean this phone only lasts 3 years 💀💀💀?
Physically it COULD start to wear down over the years
how could this be "6 months later" if the phone has only been out for 5 months? 👎
