Also I have an interface which has 2 primary unbalanced XLR inputs, there is another 2 balanced XLR inputs but I can't record audio through these inputs (inputs 3&4 on the steinberg UR44). And idea on how to get the interface to use the last 2 inputs rather than the first two

Thanks for the time stamps! I’d have to look into your interface.

34:27 ...dude, this is a game changer for me Josh. I at first didn't understand the importance of "noise gate"...until I thought back at all the times I've gone through and silenced out breathing, creaking chair, etc, something I sometimes put off doing in audacity and physically cut up with FCPX. Bam. Simplified.
I'm conflicted here. I want everyone to know about this channel...then again, I like feeling like I have a sound guru that nobody knows about haha
So glad I found you bro.

I get bored very easily with tutorials and usually do not make it to the end. This tutorial was done very well. Josh was quick to his points without going overboard with boring details but at the same time giving plenty of information on how a beginner can use Audacity in a very simple way. This type of free information is hard to find. Thank you Josh!! I may be contacting you in the near future for some hands on lessons in making music.

Thanks, Josh, this is a great new year update on using Audacity. I'm pleased to report I've used many ideas and suggestions from your earlier tutorials in my audio fiction podcast, Tall And True Short Reads. I'm now up to lucky 13 episodes and over time, I've been customising EQ settings for my vocals so that my short story narrations sound good but also sound like me! One tip I would recommend you share with others is to always keep a backup of the raw vocals. After watching your latest video, I "tweaked" my most recent podcast episode and made the rookie mistake of EQ'ing my EQ'ed vocals .... over AND over! The result was BASSY and BOOMY, but thankfully I had a cleanish backup because it looked like I'd have to re-record the vocals. 😰 PS. I've made a small donation in appreciation of your tutorials. 🙏

Start of video : "Okay, it's getting late on a work night ... I'll just watch a little and see if this video is worth saving to watch later."
    1 hour later
"Wait I watched through the whole thing without meaning to!!"
Thank you for this video, I've been doing some voice work for a little while but you had some tips in here way beyond what I knew before that are going to really help - that noise gate for long form audio is going to be a game changer for me!

This was a great tutorial. One thing I will say from my studies of voiceover so far is that I'm surprised you recommended silencing gaps between speech. The wisdom is that human ears aren't accustomed to silence and it can be a bit jarring or unpleasant for listeners if you include it in audios. A low noise floor (somewhere around -70dB) is preferred depending on what your project is.

For a commercial with background music/sounds it’s all good and is recommended. For audiobooks… not so much😉😊. Thanks for the comment!

I’m curious as to why you wouldn’t use auto ducking to make the music quiet when talking verses the method you demonstrated? Thanks.

In the Device tool bar, second box over, with the "core audio" box on my left... in the second box, it reads "Built-in microphone" in order to record off my turntable it needs to read "USB Kodak"? The box won't drop down with options, it will only highlight it blue and give it a check mark... Where's the tutorial to fix this problem? Thanks....
