Very well done as always. The one time I had problems with shaking and making loud banging noises was that one time I ate at Chipotle. 😀 Hope you have a great weekend ahead!
Very informative video. The back of my Maytag washer vibrates & has done so since it was new. I hooked a piece of rope on the back & pulled it tight toward the front of the washer which helped so I’m wondering if maybe the screws were not tightened. Will have to check. It’s worse when I wash jeans & I’ve cut the load size down considerably. Thanks for sharing such a great repair video. Very well done!
Thank you, this was very straightforward. Is their any other reason a washing machine is shaking? We adjusted the feet so it doesn't wobble, just checking to see if it might not be something else.
For others here: 1: use a level and check front to back side to side, feet on bottom of unit can be adjusted to lvl by hand usually (can use a Dolly or something similar to slightly lift front/sides and slip a wedge under to adjust feet gradually if ya don't have a helper) make sure rubber type vibration pads on feet aren't broken/missing while you're there. 2: if you have an agitator check if it's wobbly, if so than check for damage around the nut that holds it in center under its cap and replace agitator if it's broken there, otherwise remove nut and pull agitator out to check for worn out smoothed/broken teeth between spline gear and agitator and replace if so. 3: for bottom plate agitator style models with no center agitator remove the plate to check plastic&metal splines for damage, if plate teeth are smoothed out/broken but spline is fine replace the agitator plate. 4: Replace rods/springs if all else checked out fine. 5: if none of that works and your unit has a suspension bracket setup between metal housing and bottom of basket/motor mount area under washer tub check if any of it slipped outta alignment and correct it and check if your unit uses damper pads usually between the brackets under motor mount area and inspect+replace if they're bad, they're typically a thin plastic material slightly bent in a partial circle form (find a parts breakdown diagram for your unit in manual/online to see if it uses damper pads anywhere and for part numbers for 'em to replace if needed). 5: Slightly useful bumper rig you shouldn't need to do if everything is in working order after fixing it all but I've fastened some pipe insulation/pool noodle to the inside housing of one of my units to add cushion before by drilling a couple holes on left&right side for big zip ties to go through to hold the insulation in place, I don't recommend doing it but it's helped me with balance issues in the past. Hope this helps someone.
replaced suspension rods with Chinesium and well, it didn't last long. If you have to wait to get USA made parts, do so, its worth the wait and the money.
True, but he gets them virtually for free and sells them to other people. I’d put the cheapest parts in I could if I was reselling them, but if I were keeping them I’d get US made parts.
Love how you explain everything as you go! I replaced my rods but think I’m going to have to replace the hub, it’s still shaking. Also need to replace the sound absorbers on both sides. 🤞🤞🤞

My washer was 90% identical; however, the drum was completely suspended by the rods/springs... if you follow the video's instructions on how to get the right part, you should be fine (Yes, I got mine from Amazon too). In my case, I found it easier just to pull the washer out completely and lay it on its side - that "zeroes" the tension on the "top" springs and they are easy to replace. Flipping it over has the same effect. When repaired and reset upright, you may need to 'bounce' the tub a bit manually for everything to set... Once it does, yes, it can still side/side but it is difficult to go up/down. My guess is the "free form/ Side-to-side" thing is so it can judge the load size. But the repair worked like a charm - $40- over $400? sign me up!
Thanks for the instruction. I’m curious, what’s wrong or what’s the malfunction of the suspension rods? Our machine is banging significantly on spin. Seems easy but I’d like to know what’s wrong with the rods. How did they fail?
It's a combination of the dampening grease used in the aid of smoothly compressing and decompressing the springs rubbing off and the internal foam inserts wearing out.
I bought the wrong suspension rod mine is 2DWTW4845EW1. The one i got from Amazon was shorter than the one in Washer. I need to get the correct one using the model number

They don’t look like fit securely in the frame. So I used the old ones. Put back together but machine is still banging. Also the drum still feels like had sake slack in it. Not firm.
Best thing to do is get the is search a website like www.appliancepartspro.com by model number of your washer. This will ensure you get the correct suspension rods
How long do most suspension rods last? My washer is only 4 yrs and moves everywhere on the spin cycle. I am assuming it's the rods that need replacing.
It all depends on how you have used the washer. If you overload it consistently, you will be lucky to get a yese or two out of the rods. Without knowing all the details, I would say 4 years for the rods is not bad
I have a Bravo model of Maytag and it would spin out of balance. I just changed the suspension rods and that solved the problem for about 5 washes. Now it's out of balance again. I did the re-calibration and the Spin light stayed on and blinking. Any advice?
How do you know if they are bad by looking down in there at them? Or are you going by age, assuming if 10 years old, that’s the problem? I’m about to throw in the towel & just buy a new speed Queen, because we’ve already replaced 2 parts & it worked at first but now not spinning out all the way. It just keeps adding rinse water, drain & spin & then done & clothes are heavy wet but no standing water. 😢 8 year old Maytag. Great video though. So appreciate your detailed info!!!
Great video, I just replaced the plastic to metal flange but fear I need to replace the rods too because it still bounces up and down when pushed down.
I replaced the springs, but my washer still shakes violently when spinning. The issue is not the load being out of balance. Do you know what else could cause this? Thanks.
Hi DuctTapeMechanic! I just subscribed! Question for you, is it likely to be anything other than the suspension rods? The hub axle seems fine but I do have water between the inner and outer drum and I am wondering if that could be the culprit for the crazy shaking? After I opened up the top I put the washer on spin with nothing inside and it spun smoothly.
I would check to see if there is significant play between the inner and outer tub (it should be tight). If there is play, then your inner tub is stripped (time for new washer). If there is no play, try pushing down on the agitator with your hand if it bounces around a couple times the suspension rods are bad (good rods should only bounce back once or twice). Running it without any cloth won't tell you much. Hope this helped.

The machine does shake and is loud on spin cycle and the foam pads on the left and right insides are worn through from the drum banging the sides. The front and rear pads look fine. Yes it can be the suspension rods that are bad. It's definitely worth trying! If it is not the rods, then most likely, the inner tub is beginning to strip, which would be much more of an expensive (probably not worth it) repair. I make sure the washer is completely level and then replace rods.
My tub is huge and no room to squeeze my arm down to lift the rod up into the top hole. So I used the clip end of my dog’s leash to grab the hook on the top of the rod and pull the it up thru the hole! HA!

We adjusted the feet so it doesn't wobble, just checking to see if it might not be something else.
Great video, even I got it. What does a 4 set of those cost? Thanks
WHO'S Better than You!!! Good Stuff. Thanks
For others here:
1: use a level and check front to back side to side, feet on bottom of unit can be adjusted to lvl by hand usually (can use a Dolly or something similar to slightly lift front/sides and slip a wedge under to adjust feet gradually if ya don't have a helper) make sure rubber type vibration pads on feet aren't broken/missing while you're there.
