    I remember his 1st year in Seattle. At the start of the season his autographed baseballs were selling for $35 at the Mariners team store. At the end of the season they were $300, if you could find one.

      Before Ichiro had even played an MLB game I can remember one analyst ( wish I could remember who it was ) saying he thought MLB pitchers would literally knock the bat out of his hands because he wasn't strong enough.

    Ichiro is the person that got me into baseball. I remember as a young kid in Seattle, watching him go to the mound, not a single person was silent.

      He was cheered even when his name was called in the lineup in the opposing team's ballpark. He never had any shady rumors/stories, so he was respected by everybody as a damn great player. I'm glad I was able to watch him and Jeter in the same team in person.

    I don't think most casual baseball fans understand what a game-changing player Ichiro was. He was not great. He was so much more than that. It's hard to define.

      TripleJPlay11 minor league is pro ball too so might as well count that also right? There’s a reason a lot of has been guys go play in Korea or Japan when they’re on their decline

    Everyone forgets the best Ichiro moment. WBC 2009 final Japan vs S.Korea. Top of the 10th, drives in two runs to give Japan the lead and finish it. I doubt there was a better moment for him considering how big the rivalry between them two is and being in the final.

      Misleading title I don’t see any of his spectacular defensive plays.
      I would put his walkoff home run of Mariano on this list that just doesn’t happen.
      Players like Ortiz and Cabrera have done it ichiro is in that group of superstars.

    Hearing Dave Niehaus's voice accompany Ichiro's accomplishments brings back a lot of emotions and fond memories. We will never forget him in Seattle. "It was something out of Star Wars out there!"

    He once said the reason why he didn't smile in games even when he did something great. He just didn't want opponents to think that he was happy about such small things like timely hits and sliding catches.

    Ichiro is right there w/ Cobb, Rose & Gwynn in the conversation for absolute best contact hitter to ever lace up a pair of spikes. He was so good it was almost....unnatural. And he did everything clean, with the utmost grace & humility

    it was an absolute pleasure to watch this man play every single night growing up watching the mariners. looking back i didnt know how good i had it. i got to see this man magic every single night.

    The first time I saw Ichiro was on TV as a new player in Seattle for the Mariners in his first game. I wasn't a big baseball fan, but I'd seen enough to know greatness when I saw it. In my mind Ichiro is the best overall baseball player in history and he has the records to prove it.

    Can't quibble too much about the plays listed, but there are issues with the order. His three biggest offensive accomplishments are: the total number of hits in Japan and the US; having over 200 hits in 10 consecutive MLB seasons; and setting the MLB record for hits in one season.

    As far as contact hitters go, records aside, Ichiro was the 2nd best contact hitter behind Rose. Growing up though, he was my favorite. Him and Griffey are the reason I taught myself to bat left handed

    They left off my favorite Ichiro moment. His throw nailing Long at third base a week into his MLB career. That was an announcement to all of baseball. You don't run on Ichiro.

      @Ryan Smith I was watching that game and I screamed at the TV for the Yanks to walk him. The next thing I knew, Ichiro was striking a pose before touching the plate with the game-winning run.
