- We are back at the elderly couple's home! In today's video, we are tackling the pantry and I think it is a very satisfying transformation...a fantastic before and after 😊. I was so happy to be able to check another space off of the list in transforming their home into a more functional and safe space to live in.

Like Fumio Sasaki says in ‘Goodbye, Things’: “Tackle the nest (storage) before the pest (clutter).” Declutter impractical storage bins or containers. Don’t just fill them up with foods (or things) you won’t use, just to have them expire :-) I know it’s not that simple for people with hoarding tendencies, but maybe some people may benefit from this advice.

Always love a pantry transformation! You helped them a lot, not only with a clean and functional pantry, but also by making them look differently at the food donations - and making them realize what they actually use and need. Great job, Heather! And kudos to the woman for following up with Meals on Wheels.

I wonder if a label maker might be useful. For an older couple, you would need to use something that would print out in a fairly large size.

Hillariously I have my overflow pantry in my garage!
They are in an apartment, so they have very limited space. They do have some storage in their patio area, but it has been getting renovated for the past two years! Pipes burst when we had a deep freeze in 2021, and the owners have taken their sweet time getting everything fixed for them. Really unfortunate situation.
Absolutely.. if you can't see what you have or don't know where it should be you can't use it

It’s a shame that’s all that food has to be thrown out. Such a waste of money and food.
I am just so happy the food that is left is safe for them to eat, and now they have a space where they can manage their food inventory better and hopefully reduce waste 😊

Nice job!! I like that you looked at every item with them and helped them see what was there with new eyes. Over time, things on a shelf are just things on a shelf. We forget just how long they have been there. It's tough when things have to be thrown away, but I agree it is the best course of action when the items are expired or open and there is an infestation of any kind. I think it is good that they felt comfortable enough with you to talk about how the items came to be there. And maybe it will make others think before they just give people things they really don't need.
I agree, even in my own pantry, I can easily forget what's in there. I think so many people have had good intentions with their donations, but it was a bit too much.
Looks great 👍. My Wife can confirm I do tend to buy more than we use in a timely manner for our pantry....sauces and soups 🤷.

Unfortunately, the food was expired and infested. We had no choice but to throw away most of it and kept what we could. I am so glad the food that is left is safe for them to eat now 😊
