When you put the camera over the edge, I nearly fell out of my recliner and onto the floor and grabbed onto the coffee table!! Thanks for sharing 🏆🏆🏆🤗🙏
I drove across this bridge in 1968 in my 1966 mustang. I can remember how the boards clacked as you drove across. Yes the boards were just lying down on on a steel rail on the edge. It seemed like you could have picked the boards up. My husband wanted to walk back out on the bridge. No way did I do that. I could drive across but couldn’t walk out on it. Worth seeing. Thanks for the video. 💞
Unfortunately China built a suspension bridge that is higher back in 2003 and a newer bridge that is even higher back in 2009. It is 1,627 feet high. Royal Gorge is still the highest in North America though.
I was there in 1977 when I was 11. it's good to see that they changed the planks, back in 1977 there were 2 1/2" gaps in some places. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
One of the scariest moments of my childhood was on the tram there.... old and rickety... lots of bumps, shakes, and rattles lol.... I'll never forget it.... I seriously thought that we were gonna be on the car where the cables finally busted.
You don't realize how far that is, until you see a train go through. Watching the rafts go down the river looks like ants also. It's crazy how much it moves while your out on the bridge. Cameras just don't do it justice, but great job with the videos and taking us along.
I visited the bridge a few times while I was stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs in the early 90's. Let's just say I'm having wonderful flashbacks watching this video. Something about walking on a glorified wooden dock/pier suspended nearly a thousand feet in the air. The swaying adds a nice touch. I'm from Florida, so of course I had a picture taken next to the Florida state flag.
We go here once a year. The crazy thing is looking down through the gaps in between the planks. There is literally just a piece of wood between u and death lol.
For somebody that doesn't like being up on a ladder you did real good! Interesting that the cables seemed to be run straight rather than twisted like all the old bridges used.
It's good to see it again. I crossed the bridge back in 1984 with my four year old daughter. My wife wouldn't let me take our new born son across. It was fun!!
They are designed to move, Thank you both. That was lovely , I think they should take out every other wood plank out of that bridge decking to make that walk more exciting guys 😉😂😂🥰 Love it when you film the meals you eat and the restaurants you eat at, the food I have seen you eat loooooks beautiful .
Came across your video and watched and subscribed to your channel. I'm afraid of heights and I wouldn't dare walk across that bridge! Enjoyed your video.
Look up suspension cable spinning. Effectively each cable is spun from one wire. There is a 1/10 size suspension bridge in Brunswick, Maine that is a pedestrian bridge called "The swinging bridge" for very good reason.
I was there but didn't make the trip to the gorge. I don't know if you are going that way but you want a really terrifying view, go to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It's over on the west side of the state by Montrose. It is about twice as deep. No bridge though. It's a really long way down.
Tony Nagy after you’ve had a fall like I had and have suffered every day since for the past 20+ years then yes, gravity is a natural thing to be scared of unfortunately!! I spent 10 years in the Air Force, flew all over and have even flown in the F-15. Used to go on bridges like this no problem but after the fall, you won’t get me within a mile of this place, lol!! As a matter of fact, my wife and I used to live north of Denver and had been to the Colorado Springs area quite a bit and the closest I got to that pace was the big historical hotel on the side of the mountain, I’ve forgotten the name now but it was beautiful and they had awesome dining!! It’s much safer for me to stay where I don’t feel the surface under me move anymore and it all changed in a fraction of a second!!! Take care and be safe out there!!!

Ive walked it and have driven over 6 or 8 in my life. You can really feel the suspension move when you walk across. Im more scared at 45 then i ever was at 10 or 14. If you dont see the bridge at least once in your life tho - you are really missing out.
I would have also liked to see them build that bridge. I was having difficulty just watching this video, specially when you hung the camera over the side (came close to drawing my Walleys into my body cavity, that would have maybe taken surgery to un-do). I can't watch movies where extreme heights are involved. I like these adventure vids. of yours though.
That was a cool suspension bridge you guys was on. When you afraid of heights looking over is scary. If you really want to try a suspension bridge that you will really feel it sway. Once we can go up north. Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It is in Vancouver, BC. Don't get me wrong US has great places to visit.
Very cool trip. I remember visiting the Royal Gorge when my family was on vacation back in the 80's. Abby: Do you watch "Best Life and Beyond" on UA-cam?
I read that a few years ago the Chinese built a higher suspension bridge and it carries traffic. So the Royal Gorge is now the second highest in the world.
I’m so glad you enjoyed your walk across the bridge. I still remember when I walked across it in the early 70’s when I was a kid while visiting family in Colorado.
On the way back stop by the bridge in Beaver AR. Not sure if it's rated for your RV but it's still in use for vehicles Weight limit is 10 tons. I drove across it while heading over to Branson, MO with my wife before she passed away. She did not enjoy the drive across though. And it's a wooden deck as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver_Bridge_(Arkansas) be worth it if you head through near there on the way back.
It may not be open, but y'all should have taking the cable train down the bottom of the gorge. It cool down there. And you could see the old water supply piping.
Isn't that a experience, I went to it a two or three times, did you see the information where they shot the first cable or cables across to start building the bridge with a cannon, enjoy.
Too bad you can't drive across the bridge anymore, it would really get to shaking and jumping when you had multiple moving cars on it. I can remember my first time as a kid back in the early sixties in my dads '58 Chevy station wagon rocking & rolling across it.
Lots of things have changed since that time, for every state. They looking for a way to make revenue. We still have to pay a roll to get onto Pensacola Beach. Come to think of it, the Florida turn pike must make a killing on tourists
