- Guitar/vocal cover of Frank Zappa's "Camarillo Brillo", off of the "Overnite Sensation" record.
A fantastically whimsical Zappa piece, perfect for any occasion (is there any other kind of Zappa tune?!)

As a 50 year FZ fan, I must say your splendid acoustic cover is replete with everything needed to do justice to the original. Well done.
Wow, thanks man! Keepin' that Sinister Moustache alive ^_^
Aside from being a spot on cover, your smirk and lack of chattiness is nicely Frank tribute-like. Well played all the way around. Great googgley mooggley.
Jim, thank you for the kind words! Gotta respect that sinister mustache ^_^
What's odd, is that this was an impromptu "time filler" for a weekly update for interested minds [several years ago], & I decided to post it on a whim.
This literally brought tears to my eyes, even after seeing this several times! You look so happy...
Thank you!!
Aw thanks man! Frank's one of my all-time heroes, & "the eyebrows" of his tunes are ESSENTIAL to playing them, as you said :) Thank you for your kind words & for taking the time to watch! I appreciate the support, & am always happy to hear from a fellow Zappa fan ^_^
Thanks man. I don't know why but I felf moved, especially cause you choosed this particolar song of Frank and you interpreted it with his proper happy and cheerful mood.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)
jordian me same here! Nicely done!
Que surpresa sensacional, sua alegria ao cantar e tocar nos aproxima da letra que é divertida, como quase tudo o que nosso maluco preferido fazia❤
2020: Still brilliant.
Thanks for teaching me the song, great interpretation
So weird that my most-viewed video was thrown together to fill time for a vlog I was doing...haha!
Glad you learned from it! It's a great tune, & I'm so happy to have been able to help you spread the Zappa cheer :)
Nice. I never even thought of playing Camarillo Brillo until I saw this. Now I understand it completely.
Glad it was helpful for you :) Spreading the Sinister Moustache's music is a noble task!
I like how you threw in the "born to have adventium" HA HA!
Haha I always loved those synthetic vernacular inputs in his live show, figured it was only proper ^_^
Hey Alex, I really enjoyed that. You played, sang and 'inflected' just right. So impressive to see someone play and sing one of Frank's songs on acoustic guitar. 🎵
Thanks, Marc! I really appreciate the kind words :) If you don't "put the eyebrows on it", is it even Zappa? Haha, plenty of other Zappa stuff lurking around this channel (though, rarely with vocals at the moment), if you're interested!
This an utterly beautiful cover man well done
Thanks, Kane! Gotta respect the sinister mustache!
Greetings from 2023. Great rendition Alex, good job!
Thank you, Tom!
Nice Job! I was looking at learning this song.... You mad it much easier! Thanks!
It's not easy to replicate Zappa on an acoustic. Great job!!! 🤘🤘
This is beautiful, for real. Great acoustic cover.
This will always be my favorite from you
Dude...so cool I listened to it twice !
Whoa! Thank you ^_^
Now go crank Over-nite Sensation twice all the way thru to get the real experience ;)
Very good. I play with you in good old Germany. Thanks a lot...
Great work! Helped me to learning this awesome song
Thanks a lot for the good vibes ! 😊👏👍
Thanks, Philippe! Good vibes all around is what we aim for 🙏🏻
Awesome
Thanks, Hugo!
Great!
Thanks :)
I just love this :) good vibes, as the youth says nowadays.
Zappa vibes are best vibes 🤙🏻
BRAVO Alex ! Zappa should be proud of you, you done it right, nothing else to add + this is one of my favorite song. You are good and funny (i sense that).
Thank you! Another FZ classic, for sure.
Humor does belong in music ^_^
@@guitarguru186 .. absolutely !
What a beautiful song one of my favorites... You did wonderful
Excellent acoustic version
Thank you!
Well done my friend I enjoyed jamming along with this video, cheers!
Thanks, Austin! Such a great tune
Excellent!!!!
Thanks, Dave!
Excellent!! Thrilling to see (hear) a young fellow pursuing Zappa's music. There is hope for the future of music. "Well, I was born to have advenchum..." Thing Fish?
+John ONeill Thanks John! I appreciate it (if you dig this, there are several dozen more live & studio covers of Zappa tunes...all on electric). Haha I took that vernacular twist from the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 6 live version, as he'd often change the suffix or prefix from known words. Helps "give it the eyebrows" ;)
what a fun cover, made me smile :)
Making a Zappa fan smile?! My day is made ^_^
Thanks, Lili!
Hands down best cover of this song I've ever seen. You do it better than Zappa Plays Zappa.
Wow, high praise! I'm not sure my solo acoustic cover can be compared to an incredibly authentic tribute to our favorite (FZ), but I certainly appreciate the sentiment :)
Very impressive!!
Thanks, Andy!
Excellent job. Enjoyed that very much.
Wow, here I am again after 7 years. Still a fun cover. :)
Aw, thank you! Zappa is the king ^_^
Oddly enough, this was just a time filler intro for a weekly vlog I did back then…and somehow became the most viewed video I’ve done 😆
Good job! I enjoyed this very much!
Haaaa very excellent
Strictly commercial ;)
Great cover! All FZ IMHO are very difficult songs to cover, good voice and guitar!
Hey, thanks Nacho! Plenty more Zappa on the channel (much more of the "statistical density" variety, too!), if you're so inclined.
Yesss!
Thanks, Leandro! ^_^
COOL...! THANKS , DONT STOP THE VIBES
Very good! Thanks.
love it man. my favourite sing-along tune with muffin man.
love it
Bravo!
very nice. I missed that guitar solos, though... I'm learning it and I was looking for some "references" lol!
but I found your version sweet!
If I had two more hands, I would've played those as well! Haha
....beautiful Katamine
Great cover!! You sure look like you are having fun!! FZ was awesome and you nailed this :)
Thanks! How can you not have fun playing Zappa, right? ^_^
Great cover, you earned yourself a sub! Now to learn it myself....
bravo !
Grazi! 🙏🏻

I love it great job Alex! I collect some FZ covers and you are on the top!
Wow, such high praise! Thank you!
I have MANY Zappa covers on this channel, many of them with a live band, if you're out to collect more. Thanks for watching, & for the kind words!
Pero que tema tan bello !!

Man! I loved it.
Thanks man! I'm happy to hear you enjoy it :) Anyone enjoying some Frank is cool by me!
Good job dude!!
Thank you, Stephen!
@@guitarguru186 Your welcome bro. You taught me a new song. LOL
It's me again...after years and years of searching for the perfect Ringtone ...i'll find it here😁
Haha no way! Can’t imagine being the soundtrack to screening calls from telemarketers 😂
I hope one day I can play and sing this song, but i'm a girl and i don't think it will work, bruh
Anyway, your cover is amazing! I absolutely love it goshh!!
Also you have a charming smile :)
Thank you!
Don’t put limits on your creative expression. You can ABSOLUTELY cover this song, or any song you’d like! I cover Vanessa Carlton songs live ^_^
Great nice cool
Thanks obliged gracious
well done, you made it look easy
Bravooo
Thanks, Paolo!
Bravissimo.
Grazie
Grazi!
could you give us the chords? I am trying to follow along but you are so good and seamless ;)
Haha thank you!
My suggestion is finding the Over-note Sensation guitar book (there may be a free viewable PDF if you search for it), as that’s where I found it initially.
The main parts of the song are in E. The turnaround “she had a snake for a pet” deviates a bit (G, D, & A chords)
muy buena version !
Gracias, señor! De nada ^_^
very nice ..
Thank you!
thank you
Thank YOU!
Sweetass!
Awesome cover, dude!
Thanks, man! Just having fun doing Zappa a little differently...which is totally in the spirit of the Sinister Moustache ^_^
Nice!
awesome stuff! I'd give my right nut to be able to play like you!
+bigswifty500 Hahaha well don't give it away just yet! There's plenty of practice & study that goes into playing, absolutely anyone with gumption & the will to improve can achieve :) Thank you for the kind words! If you like this one, I think you'll like some of the other electric Zappa covers I have up (& a few more to come in the coming month or so!)
:) There you are 100 likes now.LIke your cover.
WOOOOAAAH.!!! So Gooooood😁😘🤤😈
Thank you, Olaf!
Nice
you are awesome
That was feckin' great man ! I should be able to work out what your doing pretty easily from the vid :)
Gotta say that you seemed to feel the song pretty well - I mean anyone can learn the chords, but it only sounds right if you 'get it' , and that's how it sounded to me :)
NICE!
THANKS! Haha
AWESOME FUNNY.....GREAT!!!
Is that a classic Zappa tune, or is that a Sears Zappa tune? Hmm, no fooling…
Amazing!!! Can you teach how to play??? Please!
Thank you! Amazing to me that people still watch this cover, which I threw together just to fill time on a weekly vlog I did 10 years ago ^_^ I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I certainly could, though I would first suggest finding a chord chart of the tune (the official guitar transcription book is really accurate...may even find a PDF online somewhere, but don't tell the ZFT haha).
Otherwise, watching my hands works wonders! Most of the tune uses chords exclusively out of E, & the turnaround ("she had a snake for a pet...") deviates a little bit.
I may have to put a lesson together for this one later. Thanks for asking, hope that helps for now!
Thank you my friend! You have a nice heart!!
Nice job Bro... Helped me learn it.... :) Thanks...
That's GREAT! I'm really happy to that this video helped you dive into the amazing music that Frank wrote :)
ok, subbed for the zappa
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
FZ always said the original was 'boring', so wanted it much faster at the shows
Definitely made it fun for fans across the board, breathing new life into tunes like that!
People can get hung up on how many pieces he released (a LOT), but forget to factor in all of the rearrangements he also made for live recordings. So prolific!
Nice playing man! Do you have any tips for singing and playing at the same time?
+the Love Dungeon Thanks :) Sorry for the late response! I would say get the chords/guitar parts down COLD (don't have to look, think consciously, focus intently on, etc.), & then apply the vocal part once you know that like the back of your hands. Think of the rhythmic properties of each part, how they interact with each other, & how they relate to the pulse/meter of the tune. Those are the biggest things I can say off-hand, but I hope that helps! Any other questions, feel free to ask & I'll do my best to respond as quickly & thoroughly as possible ^_^
+Alex Maiers thanks for the tips man!
chingón!
👍
🙏🏻
Good job mate.Frank couldn't sing and play at the same time !!
Great Job. Can you please post here the tab and chords ? :)
P.S. Awesome guitar. :)
Thanks man, I really like that guitar too ^_^ Been a while since I've played it on a regular basis though...need to fix that!
Anyways, there is a guitar tab book out for Over-nite Sensation (an official ZFT publication) that has all of the licks, chords, & miscellaneous parts in it. Otherwise, I suggest watching my hands & just listening for the chords (best way to learn anything is with your ears!). A very simple tune you'll have no problem tackling (especially for a Zappa tune!).
Alex Maiers , i trust the tab book, but a chord sounds kind of "bizarre".... But, anyway, i like your version. Always a pleasure to listen some good FZ's cover. Thanks, man!
Which chord sounds kind of "bizarre"? Obviously it won't sound the same orchestrated as with a solo acoustic rendition, but I can assure you that the chords are accurate.
I wish i could play like that :/
You forgot the G sharp minor. At least that's how I learned it.
Passing between Amaj & F#m? Otherwise I’m not sure where you’d be referring to, but that is an E/G# chord. Only one note difference, & there may be a live version he did with that reharmonization, though I’ve never personally heard it.
arf
Poodle bites!
Too happy, did you chew your way through her rancid pinocha
Is that a real poncho I mean is that a Mexican poncho or is that a sears poncho? Hmm... no fooling.
That rancid ponocha!
