  • As the coke-fueled decade of the eighties came to a close, BMW unleashed this bold, brash, plastic encased 1000cc K bike that could surely launch you back to the future. Sit back and relax as Sayre takes us on a tour of this curious German tourer.

I have one in the UK and love it. She turns heads and draws a crowd wherever you go and is surprisingly comfortable over distances, I’ve done 500ml days with no issues. You do have to travel light though when on tour with just a tank bag and the small side pockets but with such a torquey engine (the 4 valve head really boosts the torque) she’s a great mile muncher

Thanks for sharing this with us!
It’s nice to see a bike of this character still in fine condition.
Just a note my 96 R850R is an oil head with electronic injection.

    12.30.23. ⚠️BMW K1100/K75 models, arguably their best motorcycles, IMHO☕️

These are great ‘mile munchers’ and always turn heads wherever you go. The big difference with the K1 over the standard K100 (apart from the aerodynamic bodywork) is that it had a sixteen valve head instead of the standard 8 valve. This was fitted to the later k1100 engines and really boosted the torque. To ride they are an absolute pleasure as you don’t require the gearbox but can just ride the wave of torque rolling on and off the throttle as the miles slip by 😊 They also look better with the tail piece over the pillion seat, completing the aero, along with the missing panel around the back of the tank 👍

They really do look better with all their clothes on. The customer had removed the missing pieces before bringing it in, but he did put them on when he rode it away. He's promised to bring it back for some more photos and movies.

It's been a minute but check the left side bag

Rear left side bag has a little button. Looks like a 'cigar lighter'. It is hidden and not easy to see. Search in the top corner towards front of bike, again inside the left rear side bag/case/compartment. Pull on it and 'voila'... the dual seat will pop out.
