BMW should keep they own style cause it's nicer, K1 is one of the most beautiful bike of all time, I would like to have one of those as my only one but the yellow lol, the dashboard is another piece of art.
I have to agree with you. It is one of my favorite bikes and it is SMOOTH LOL: Keep thos revs up about 5K and you will like it better. you are lugging the heck out of it. AND tap both brakes every time you start it to engage the ABS.
ABS is always engaged. When you tab both brakes, the system checks if the brake light is still in working order. If it is, the warning light on the dash goes away and you know your brake light is functional.
Bought mine as a demo in 1991, thanks for the post! She's got over 130k on it now. Never been south of SLO, I'm going to have to try it! I am tall as well, and one of my favorite features is being able to tuck my legs behind the fairing. Before the gas formulation change I got 50MPG ... even at 80+
Great stuff, nonetheless I remember the K1 launch and thought it was supremely ugly and overweight at the time, certainly not my cup of tea. On the other hand there is that RC30 that still looks sublime. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact your K1 is on the road and being enjoyed, but for me it looked like, and still does, the rear arse of an hippopotamus in motion.❤
I miss my K1. Not a nimble bike since it was designed for the Autobahn. The K1 was the first Beemer designed in a wind tunnel. The heated hand grips are fantastic in colder climates.
If you tap the brakes while you set off the hazard light goes off on abs equiped k bikes...lets the brain know the lights are working. If the light stays on a bulb is out. If the light flashes with abs light on aswell then there's a problem with the pump or the sensor
Does the K1 have selfcancelling turnsignals, I know some K100 have, aswell as my K1200R. It looks great, I want one too but they're hard to find in Denmark where.
At 19 I wrote off my dads Blue and yellow version of one of these, had 1500km on the clock, spend a few years paying him back, Ironic he had an RC30 also.
WIll you reset the smooth-ometer before the next ride? Congrats on the new channel! Am I the only one freaked out by the fact the guages are tracking the handlebar movement? I like it better when the guages stay put, so to speak.
Good to see you here, Wingut! Haha, hopefully we the smooth-ometer won't make another appearance. The worst offender of the tracking-with-the-bars to me is the 1st gen Ducati Multistrada, that ugly headlight went everywhere and it was terrifying. I'm sure it gave kids nightmares.
interesting the is no main light switch ?? I own the k1 since 12 years ,the bike is always working ,just change the oil and brake fluid and gooooo, in any gear ,you can move away with 2 gear no problem the engine is so elastic so fantastic :-))) the roads are nice in California but the conditions are bad ..... tar stains ......
That hazard light is weird, does not go off until you engage the front and rear brake after each start up. You’ll notice it goes off when he comes to the light for that reason.
Good eye! That's a brake light failure warning light. As you note, it's designed to light up when you start and then clear after you tap both the brakes - if it stays on, that means the brake light is burnt out and it's supposed to warn you as it's not something you'd be able to easily notice while riding. BMW used that on the K1, K100, K75, and K1100 (if not more models).
Today, this might be called a Halo Product. Something produced to Wow the magazines and riders, but was expected to sell in limited quantities. But the “Halo” of its uniqueness would trickle down to the more practical bikes that people actually could use.
I have the exact bike and almost referred to it as the Buck Rogs bike to a couple of twenty-something riders, then stopped myself as they wouldn’t understand. Immediately afterwards, one of them said, I don’t know what that thing is, but if Iron Man rode a bike, that would be it. Fair enough!
Look forward to seeing a big variety of special machines. Perhaps time trial the homolgation bikes on a track from time to time. Same track, same rider etc....... create your own Stig. Even quarter mile challenges if risk becomes a factor.
I like that idea. Our new plan is making our racebike collection available to our trackday members so a video would be easy there too. Thank you for this
569llbs wet weight oops that was a lie someone added fuel weight to claimed dry ...actual weighed reviews back in the day was a tad over 600 pounds" But hey weight equals traction and stability right?
Why is the bike "iconic", no explanation at all, just how you wanted to ride one. Wow. There's no hydraulic clutch on this bike, good research dude. You don't appear to ever actually put the engine into it's powerband, always using low revs. Get it over 6K rpm and it becomes a different machine! Ah well, this was my first visit to your channel as I've owned BMWs for decades and have a '96 K1100RS (and an '85 K100RS and two other later BMWs), and as you can tell I'm not impressed. For those who know nothing about the bike there's lots to tell, ,and you don't do that. Sad, and I don't see the point of this video.
@@CitEnthusiast this video isnt a review... the title is literally "adam rides a bmw k1", its just him on a cool bike having fun with his friends. lighten up lmao
It was stupid expensive and looks weird even by BMW standards. The paint scheme was like “ughhh” that’s why it is iconic ‘cause beemer just does its own things.
It's a super sport, but I understand you point because of the mushy suspension. I wouldn't call it a touring bike, because you don't have the ability to take anything with you, besides 2 waterbottles.
Congratulations, this bike was ahead of its time. Cheers
That's a great iconic classic you have there. Defenitely a keeper! That Honda was also a very great bike to see!
I rode a K1 all over Japan in the mid nineties. Handles amazingly for a big heavy bike.
BMW should keep they own style cause it's nicer, K1 is one of the most beautiful bike of all time, I would like to have one of those as my only one but the yellow lol, the dashboard is another piece of art.

I think its such a unique cool looking bike, kinda sci-fi. Reminds me a lot of the bikes from Akira!
Awesome! Can't wait to see more!
Coming soon!
When people in the 80s designed objects based on what they thought the future would look like, a special kind of magic happened.
Great video. I own one too. Here in Germany it’s a real Autobahn eater. It’ll easily and comfortably cruise 200km/h for an hour or two. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes. So glad to see this happing Adam!!!
It is a lot of work, but more to come!
Arrgh the suspense is killing me WHYYYYY!?
Happy to see a new video !
Hope you enjoyed it!
Of course 😁
Oh man! I can't wait for an RC30 video. And I don't even dare to dream of an NR 750 video....
Working on one soon!

Funny, I find the motor gets buzzy at higher revs, I like the low down torque. My old bike didn't come on cam until 6k.

I also like the Telelever shaft drive having less torque effects than the shaft drive Honda I had before. So much smoother. ;-)

Great point! I've heard the term "flagship" used in a similar way as well. I guess the closest thing for BMW right now would be the M1000RR. - Abhi

Iconic was the aerodynamics for motorcycles in the late 1980th's.
And no bike was uglyer...
@@lagerx61 I know why it's iconic. I just pointed out the video does not discuss why it's iconic. Worst review of a bike ever.
