- Jayson from Burton came through the studio and ran down the 2021 binding lineup. There's really a lot fo options here from the Freestyle to the X, and everywhere in between. Burton is always at the top of the game in binding tech and this year is no different.

One of my fav's as well.
I ride the women's equivalent -- the Lexas -- and I agree: DEF my favourite binding ever!
The Cartel really is all the binding a good all mountain rider needs

I have the Genesis and Genesis X bindings.
Great comfort and plenty of flex with just enough support to hold a good edge. 👍

@@maximluva that was my take away, and understanding from the video. I have the Genesis X binding from last year. I believe they took what they liked from both last years Genesis X & the X base binding and broke it down into one binding (The X) for the 2021 season.
Which binding would you recommend for an arbor annex? Mostly all mountain, trees and side hits. I'm torn between the genesis and the malavita
Both are sick but I would do the Genesis. Traditionally guys who ride park (but want an all mountain binding) ride the Malavita. The Genesis will compliment the ride style of the Annex a little more.
Does the Malavita Leather have double take buckles? Burton website photos show the leather model with regular buckles.
The leathers do not, the pics you see are correct. Danny and a few of the boys that ride that binding like the old ratchets. 🤷
What would you recommend out of the Cartel or Malavitas to pair with a K2 Party Platter? Mostly groomers but some powder when NZ gets it, side hits and small/medium jumps
You can't go wrong either way honestly. Personally i would do the Malavitas becasue you get a lot of good upgrades from the Cartel (i.e. Strap, Highback, Ratchets)
I'm confused about the genesis, I put my genesis on my custom x. Thinking it was a stiffer all mounting binding?
It's my favorite binding, It is an all mountain binding that gets its quickness more from the straps and highback and maintains smoothness through the baseplate. Good pair with the Custom X
Was looking at getting the cartel for my burton custom camber. Any thoughts?

whats the rub with the wing? Does it have much of a purpose or just look cool?
The wing gives you a little more support on the outside of the binding. Adds stability.
No Burton step in this year?
And another question, what do you think about the step in's '
Edit: I still run same Burton Idiom bindings on my board. They're probably over ten years old but they'll do the job and are still pretty lightweight and firm after all these years. Black baseplate and straps with silver/grey back. Toestraps
yes there are new STEP ONS. This season. However they don't drop until like Nov 5th I do believe. These are just the bindings that are out now. I don't ever seeing myself going back to a strap binding. I have a limited edition Step On EST Mine 77 binding that is the absolute truth. The absolute truth. There are so multiple benefits and intangibles that make the step on just amazing. I wrote a post once saying that if Jesus walked on water it was in the Step On Ion boot. For reals.

Cartel or Malavita would be a great fit
New to boarding, just started last season! Are there any benefits to the wing on the mission vs. standard high back besides the look of it?
More control I guess. Never try them myself but that's must be the most logic. Welcome to the snowboard world, train hard and you'll have much fun this winter :)
I think the wing helps you tweak airs,
Helps generate more power with ollies and nollies too.
Yeah you can lean into them which gives you control on presses and more pop on ollies, also can be useful when doing lips and blunts
they will actually make it harder to tweak airs because of the lateral resistance.
Between the capita doa and arbor westmark which one would you recommend for carving and speed? I
Capita DOA for sure. Westmark is more of a park board.
Super Doa is hella sick too if youre into something a little stiffer. You can really lay out some carves and still have a lot of pop to play with.
would the cartel x be a good choice for a t-rice pro or is that too aggressive?

Thanks for the again very informative video! I currently ride the malavita (great and comfortable, no doubt) but am looking for something a bit more responsive especially for when it gets steeper or when carving. Am on a 162w Flight attendant and loving it. No park riding, just backcountry and carving. Any thoughts or advice on what to take? Thanks a lot in advance!
I would definitely check out the Cartel X then. Stiffer baseplate that will react quicker edge-to-edge.

Can you recommend the Cartel X for a beginner with a lot of ski experience
The Cartel X is an amazing binding but for a beginner you might be better off with the standard Cartel. Its a little smoother and easier edge to edge.
I really want to know if there is an official fix to the clicking sound in the step-ons.
I know it's not a functional issue but once you hear it, you can't 'unhear' it
Ear plugs maybe? Unfortunately haven't heard of anything yet.
you can put some grease in between, or just go faster so you only hear wind noise...

whats a good binding for the Capita Super DOA?
There are a lot of good options to be honest, it’s really just personal preference. Personally I’d go with the Genesis, it’s my favorite of the Burton bindings.

@@thehouse yesss. Upgraded to the super grip 2.0 and hammock ankle strap and I’ve basically got new bindings.
Does it really mess with a burton deck if say I put my Rome targa on a custom x?
Not at all, pretty much any bindings you buy nowadays are fully compatible with the Channel
@@thehouse well that’s what I thought but on one UA-cam video I thought I heard someone saying the binding could mess with the board but couldn’t see how that’s really possible.

No its still an all mountain binding just a little more of a free flowing style. I ride the Genesis myself and they rip absolutely everywhere!
In your opinion which bindings are best for Custom X FV 158?
I'm in between Cartel X EST and Genesis EST
Both are great options to tell you the truth. The biggest difference you will notice is the edge to edge feel. The Cartel X has a little stiffer baseplate so it will be quicker edge to edge. Personally I LOVE the Genesis it not quite as quick as the Cartel X but has a super smooth feel without feeling dead.

Yeah, how the straps mount on Burton bindings has not changed in a long time so you should be able to mount ANY of the newer straps with no problem
Are the Genesis softer this year now?
They are not, pretty similar to last year.
@@thehouse The video says there on the softer side. Would they be softer then the Cartel? I always thought the Genesis we're the stiffer binding in the line.

Just picked up the step on X new for the 21 season. Other then the carbon fiber composite it’s the exact same binding to the regular step on and around 50 grams lighter. Is it worth the price tag of 400$? 🤷♂️ IMO a little disappointed no b3 gel, nothing.

If you want a smoother feel go with the Malavita. If you want quicker response, go Cartel X. Both incredible bindings!
did he actually say Genesis is just a bit stiffer than freestyle? lol always had the impression that Genesis is one of the stiffest board in burton lineup
That is actually true, The Genesis gets most of it power and response through the straps and highback. This makes it a super responsive but still smooth riding binding. Technically speaking though the baseplate only has 30% glass. The Cartel X and the X EST have the stiffest baseplates in the line up.

Not this year, the X took over the footbed of the Genesis X

@@Neguz305 the new Genesis is the same as last years Genesis. They basically did away with the Genesis X and added the EST foot bed to the new X EST this year.

The Clutch was just a limited edition binding Burton did for the 2020 season.

How Mission 2020 compare to Cartel 2021? Seems like new Cartel uses Mission baseplate? What are the changes? Is it worth to go for Cartel 2021 when I can get Mission 2020 -30%?
What will be the difference between Mission 2020 vs 2021?
The Cartel high back for 2021 is a better high back. More flex where you need it while keeping stiffness in the right places. As for the Missions, this years version has a new ankle strap.
