- I recently joined this group on Facebook where they make seitan using the wash that flour method! Now this seitan they are making is some of the best vegan meats I've seen. I recently came across a recipe by Oncle Hu that looked incredible and I knew I had to try it!!
So here is my slightly modified vegan pastrami!! Its amazing!!

@@m1cajah the problem is not Facebook. The problem is narcissists with Facebook pages who arbitrarily ban content that does not suit their egos.
Facebook is like cancer anyway. Leaving 2 years ago was the best decision I ever made.

Been in the group for all of two days. I’m appalled by this. Have watched and enjoyed your videos for the last year since I became vegan, learned a lot and inspired me to experiment a lot. Finally hit the subscribe and bell button. Was looking forward to learning stuff from that group but I’d rather not if it’s run by people like this. And it looks like there’s a mass exodus happening! Too right.

I brined seitan for 9 days and baked it in a Dutch oven for 3 hours coated in oil. It was a lovely sandwich “meat”

@@SauceStache it’s pretty simple. I flavor my seitan with herbs and spices, and wrap the dough in a log form with cheese cloth and butcher’s twine. I boil that for a couple of hours, let it rest, and then brine it. I bake it in a Dutch oven at 275° for three hours, covered liberally with oil.

@@CriticallySteffany perhaps give this technique a try. Reconstitute dried mushrooms, purée them into a paste. The amount of water I use should just cover the mushrooms in the blender. I also cut back on the amount of vital wheat gluten by using some flax meal. Make sure to add oil and molasses to your dough, that’s important. Have fun 💚🌱

Not sure if you're going to end up reading this, but might as well. If you want your seitan to color beautifully, beetroot powder isn't the way to go, the colour disappears in the cooking process. Use grated/blended raw beetroot instead. Using cooked also doesn't work- you end up losing colour aswell.

Personally I put my seitan in a saucepan when I'm adding the seasonings. The gluten becomes stretchier with the heat so you can add all the spices and if it's too hard to incorporate it well, I also add chickpea flour

Just want to add another supportive voice from the washed flour seitan group. Admin has been a power tripper from the start and the thread in question is reaching 400 comments in support. The group generally supports your content it's just a couple of admins who are jealous and unhinged lmao

Idk anything about the whole Facebook group incident but I just found your YT page a few days ago and am honestly loving your content. I've been a vegetarian for 18 years and have never made my own seitan because I've been too afraid to make one. Your videos is giving the strength to dive in and make one. Thank you for this! I'll definitely be trying out both the kneading and no kneading seitan from your other video.

I asked Grace why she made such a big deal out of the situation when you clearly credited Oncle Hu and group and she kicked me out of it haha. seriously thanks for this video, I sometimes struggle with doing seitan just from a recipe. So thank you for making a video, it helps a lot!

@@SauceStache I wouldn't worry too much about it, friend. I've been in the group since earlier this year and that one admin has always been really rude to people. Honestly, at the moment that (super random) post has 627 comments, and as far as I can see every single comment made in there is being just as confused as you are, being angry and demanding she apologise to you because this is so bizarre and unnecessary, or just generally in support of you.
Just so you know! You're actually very loved in there :) Don't spend too much time worrying about what happened... It's just literally 1 or 2 women who were already like this and tons of people leaving because this was the last straw.

Hugs Mark, that lady was way out of line. You were doing her a favour and I still can't work out what she was upset about. So many joined the group after your comment (like me) and so many defended you and got booted (like me, but I was in the process of leaving anyway). Hopefully we could ask Oncle Hu if he had any more recipes and if he could share them on 'The Washed Flour and Other Seitan Recipes and Methods'. Nicer name and MUCH nicer admins. Can't wait to make this and the Swiss cheese recipe. Keep up the great content. AND BTW, I'm a convert to mushroom powder!!!

My brother in law is a vegan, and watching your show gives me wonderful insight into what he might eat. I am a meat lover, but i always find these vegan recipes to be rather fascinating. So much you can do with plant based proteins!
If you're already interested, try it! Instead of being a meat lover, be an animal lover. What you call meat is the flesh of someone who didn't volunteer for your meal. Get with your bro and make it together 😊
That's very cool of you to have an open mind about his veganism. I'm sure he appreciates it. I know I do with my friends and family who are cool about it.
Im also looking into this stuff, Im trying to go vegan later this year.
My problem is how pretentious "vegans" tend to be. Let alone "vegan" dishes. Just make food. If you need to make a substitution then it isn't the same dish. I also have the same problem with turkey bacon. Absolute crap pretending to be something it can never be.

This is awesome :D Honestly, I've been so scared to try WTF seitan but it absolutely seems to be worth it! the texture seems so much better than the VWG one!
