  • For anyone who owns a boat, or is either selling or looking for a boat, this video is for you. Keeping an updated Maintenance Log will not only make your boat more attractive to a potential buyer who may be comparing your boat against other, but it will also keep you up to date on what you've done, when it was done and how much did it cost. Also, if parts were involved, where did you get them. In addition, it's a great way to keep a budget of how much, year over year, it the boat costing you. Again, clear and precise information you or any buyers would need to know. Yours may be the only boat he has seen with a properly kept log.
Another benefit to keep in the log are all the part numbers needed for maintenance, from filters to belts, etc..

Great idea about the part numbers and automotive equivalent numbers. I've been keeping a log of expenses since I bought my boat, but I'm just enough of a computer geek to have kept it on my phone since the beginning. Having it on paper would be better when the boat is sold. Just hand it to the new owner instead of promising to email him my digital version.
    As usual, great video!

Thank you for that! I really appreciate these comments. I too have a digital version on my phone. Actually, I use an APP called TreMate, designed for this purpose and more. But, I still keep the paper version up to date as well for the exact reason you mentioned. The prospective buyer really appreciate have this documentation. Another reason is if and when you need to get a survey done. I know many surveyors who told me very few people keep up to date logs, and it does make a difference for them. All questions they have are answered within the log... Cheers and Fairwinds SailThePaleBlueDot!
