Remarkable and excellent project. I visited this site a few years ago at its initial stage. At that time only numerous construction equipment such as trucks were available there. Now the basic layout has been created and being well developed. This airport will contribute a lot to the economy and benefit the wide community. Respect and thanks to the builders.

Hopefully this is the beginning of Sydney catching up to where it should have been 20 years ago. Thanks for putting this together. All very impressive!

Now all 'they' have to do is build another dam.
Dont listen to climate change advocates. Warragamba has served its puurpose. When built in 1960 Sydneys popullation was 2.1 million compared to 5.8 million now.
Take that along with the massive increase in demand from industry etc which is more than households, the supply is way down on demand.

Judging by the aerial view, it looks like the M12 could be finished well before the airport opens.

Wow, thank you for this very comprehensive update. I never realised how far ahead this project was and the enormous changes to that part of Sydney. I'm definitely going to take a drive out there and have a look around.

Quite a remarkable project. Airport, The M12, and the Metro system. Plus ALL the other stuff going on.
    Collectively 12 to 14 billion?
    Lot's of spending in Sydney.
Brisbane: The cross river rail, which the politicians make out like it's 10 times the size of China 3 Gorges dam project.
Oh, they're upgrading the Indooroopilly roundabout too...

Loved the m12 update, its far ahead of what I thought, is it 3 lanes each way?

I can see where they are creating limited exits until arriving passengers have cleared immigration and customs .

I'm getting to the stage, I wish they'd hurry up and finish the danged thing. It was first mooted way back in the early 70's or was it late 60's. The finally, someone finally gets it going...lol

To be honest national/international airports are more than gateways into a nation their design is generally a showcase for the country this airport looks big but stock-standard, doesn’t make a statement in its architecture or design that says to the world we are not only cutting-edge but creative. I guess the massive costs of building these hubs makes it too difficult to make an impactful statement, it’s rather “boxy”. No slight on the workers but it could’ve been next level, in saying that let’s wait’n’see I suppose.

I agree about the airport lacking any architectural significance and it being a missed opportunity, but NSW is already spending billions on multiple infrastructure projects at once. Light rail, metro, Westconnex etc and billions of dollars is being poured into Parra's development too. These projects all going over budget too, so I can see why.
I would've really loved if this weren't the case though and we could invest into it this as something like Singapore airport - lite.

I agree. Just came back from the newly built Qingdao airport in China which I'm guessing is 2 or 3 times the size...maybe more. Architecturally its very imposing with its huge curved surfaces and the like.

Motorways are fine but why is there no direct rail access to the Southern Highlands, Goulburn and Canberra for International travelers?

I knew this area that it was being built as I use to travel though parts of it driving from Wollongong to St Marys where my family lives. I didn't realise how much farm land and country side this whole undertaking was going to destroy until this video clip. What a dam shame.

    • @68404

It was mostly under utilised pasture.
      And there's no dam there.

For the people who feel negative about this airport. How else could Sydney be served over the next 100 years or so . Looking at the big picture ,this airport is cheaper to build now then lets say 25 years in the future. Sure sacrifices need to be made but it will balance out in time . Future Australians will be the winners.

Is there anywhere you can see the detail of how the M12 will join the M7?

  • @dcloder

Looks like only 2 lanes each way. Now I know people are going to say it's mainly airport traffic and there won't be a need for it to be wider, but they likely said that for every single motorway and look how shit our traffic is, especially in that area. That interchange is going to cause havoc on the M7.

I’m pretty sure it has capacity to double side on the opposite site in decades to come which is why the metro is in the middle.

Melbourne needs to take some cues and stop pussing footing around with the airport train like to the new airport

  • @PLANETIA01

Again I thank you for creating and posting your clips on UA-cam. However, as the WSA takes shape; it is going to be one of the ugliest airports in the world! The NSW Government had the money to make this airport something really special and they just did not do that at all. Instead, they have allowed the builders to build a basic airport, free from any terrific design. Think about the Sydney Opera House and what other designs were not at all considered. I am very disappointed in seeing this airport take shape to something of a 3rd class country. Forget about the final fit-out inside the buildings, it's on the outside that most people would have direct eye contact with. Very disappointing :( DM.
