I love this song, it popped up on my youtube recommendations randomly some time ago and i am so glad it did. The singers are absolutely amazing in my oppinion and the rest of the band aswell ofcourse. I cant understand what they are singing about but they manage to transport a special feeling which is just an amazing part of music.
Great job reacting to this awesome band! This was very enjoyable to watch! All of your reactions are excellent! Grai is incredibly creative and unique, and always delivers amazing music that is heavy and melodic. Loads of talent all around!
Mara is old Slavic pre-Christian goddess. She is still known by local variant names like Morana/Morena/Marzanna, especially in Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, Serbian, all over Slavic lands really. She survives in both forms as beautiful maiden of spring and old winter/death hag. In folk tales and songs she takes revenge against his brother/lover vegetation god Ivo/Juraj/Yurij/Yarilo because he was unfaithful to her. I kinda sense, this was portrayed in this video, maybe, and then maybe not, but it's a common motif in old Slavic folk songs. During Christianization she became just a folk, legendary character, but originally she was a well-known goddess, very much worshiped all over Slavic lands. In almost pre-historic times, like proto-Indo-European times, Mara meant death. We don't know still if in those times Mara was worshiped in this form or was it just an idea. Possibly so. Many old gods are hidden in new religions cloak, some "became" saints, some mythic legendary human heroes. Great song, band and all that.
Mara is the Slavic goddess of Winter. death and restful sleep. She took the warrior in the clip. He didn't run away. He fell into her arms. She took him away. A Snow Queen of Andersen tale is analogue of Mara.
Basically in the arms of mara. Is in the cold winters of Russia. Russia has very cold winters. So what I get out of it. Is trying to servive the winters of Russia
это очень грустная песня.... в ней поется про то, что любимого человека, цитирую - "увела зима милого друга" убила зима, цитирую "забрала в объятья Мары" Мара - в славянской мифологии богиня зимы и смерти... Я когда слушаю эту песню - слезы наворачиваются this is a very sad song.... it is sung about the fact that a loved one, I quote - “winter took away a dear friend”, killed winter, I quote, “took into the arms of Mara” Mara - in Slavic mythology, the goddess of winter and death... I when listening to this song brings tears to my eyes
Thank you!
