The Soundwave vs Blaster rivalry should have become more prominent and explored more. He was a perfect counterpart to the Decepticons communication officer.
He really should have done more with Jazz. The two if them are both into rock music, and are both just really cool. Look at Jazz dancing to Blaster's music, they should be great friends! He was also voiced by Buster Jones, who also played Winston Zeddemore in the later series of The Real Ghostbusters. He deserves a good toy, that isn't a Soundwave redeco or a VEHICLE...
Funny thing: one of the two Blaster figures that's a Soundwave repaint & remold...Blaster totally takes over and OWNED the mold: Fall of Cybertron. The Transformers Cybertron (or Universe) Blaster sucked as it was a straight repaint of Soundwave. Titans Return Blaster was okay, but it's not a repaint of Soundwave (Soundwave was a repaint & minor retool of Blaster in this case). On the downside, if they do a new Blaster in the new War for Cybertron Trilogy line, that's very likely to be a Soundwave retool...
So did Hasbro. They also used the name "Action Master Blasters" for the small size Action Master vehicles, despite the potential for confusion with the Action Master figure of Blaster.
Nicholas Hermes I got duped. I bought what I thought was the English dub of that series. Turned out to be the Japanese audio although the website said English audio and English subtitles 😡
@@cooler1679 Even more so by the fact that Blaster seems to be the go-to retool of any modern Soundwave toy, which started in 2008 (only for Titans Return to reverse it). Since Siege Soundwave is out, I bet Hasbro will retool it and release it later on. :P
@@twistedgaming9185 I think the laptop mode that the Device Label figure had worked quite well. Maybe one of those audio recorder things they use to record interviews? Maybe Hasbro feels that, because of Soundwave, they have no need to promote Blaster as well. Which is a damn shame because Blaster needs recognition too dangnabit.
Blaster and Jazz . . . the Gangsta Autobots :D also, here's an unconventional idea for The Basics: episodes featuring the voice actors (Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, etc) and the various characters they did.

I had older brothers who worked at a toy store and got the Nintendo on their own collective income, but for me, it was comics because my parents were divorced and getting lots of Nintendo games or a whole lot of toys weren't as easy as getting a whole lot of comics at the drug store or the very few comic shops in Indianapolis. By the time I was really into comics, and could walk to the local drugstore on my own, Transformers were the king of after school TV. I loved his origin story and the heartbreak of losing his best friend and leading many of the other 1985 characters which I did own (particularly the mini bots like Cosmos, Powerglide, Seaspray, Warpath, and Beachcomber). He's never dropped from that #1 spot and never will. I've been on a big Transformers Nostalgia trip over the past few months and finding Chris' channel has been a complete joy. Cool choice man. Blaster was always a lot of fun in the G1 cartoon (the only Transformers media I knew as a kid.) But I know that thing of losing yourself in comics. My parents divorced when I was a kid and I had already discovered the Sonic the Hedgehog comics by then. Then the cartoon premiered the same weekend I moved to a new town. So I threw myself into that fantasy instead.
that side story of Blaster in the 1986 movies sounded awesome, it would of been a Predator type crew with a funny heavy, quick wit and silent soldier. that would of been great 😍
I like that the IDW iteration combined his original animated persona and Marvel persona into one. I also love the idea of him Blaster being a wartime radio personality.
One of the only G1 figures I had that survived to my adulthood. I loved him in the 86 movie too! Here's to hoping he settles that score with Soundwave again some day. Thanks for another great video!
In the movie both Eject and Rewind switch colour schemes upon ejection as well as the appearance of two Ejects in the cassette battle. Rumble and Frenzy also briefly switch colours upon their ejection as well
One of my favorite Autobots, along with Moonracer and Perceptor. He deserves more prominence. I prefer the more upbeat version, but the grim warrior has been memorable.
When I saw TF the movie in the theater, I remember the scene when Blaster first launched his new cassette warriors the audience started cheering, at the time, like it was Avengers Infinity War. It made sense that Blaster and Soundwave were 2 opposites in character in the cartoon.
Growing up as a young Black kid and watching G1 Transformers, I and others were super elated about Blaster and Jazz. They both exhibited characteristics and mannerisms akin to Blacks, and little did we know, they were indeed voiced by Black men. What an excellent way for Hasbro and company to incorporate diversity into the cartoon all those years ago. Will always love the "hip and cool" Blaster. Side note, Panthro from Thundercats had the same effect.
Since I used to watch Scatman Crothers on TV as a child, I recognized him as Jazz immediately. I knew Buster Jones' voice from when he was Black Vulcan on the Super Friends. The 3rd Black voice on G1 Transformers was Arthur Burghardt aka Devastator.
Remembering the 86 movie...the 2 moments that kids reacted happily to: Hot Rod's transformation into Rodimus Prime and when Blaster unleashed his cassettes.
You know, in an early Headmasters episode, Daniel Witwicky, Wheelie along with Blaster's buds, Ramhorn and Steeljaw, didn't accept the transformation into Twincast at first. The bot only ended up proving that, though he may not look like him, he still has the same Blaster spark, and it's what's on the inside that counts more.
Hold on, I just noticed something crazy! One of the vehicle modes given to Blaster is a recolor of the Transformers: Cybertron Soundwave figure. Talk about close connections.
Hasbro planned to release a DOTM Blaster figure which would’ve been a repaint and retool of the cancelled Soundwave figure but the toy line wasn’t doing too well so the figure never ended up being released. You can however find images of the figures on the internet and while the colors don’t suit the car, the robot mode looks really good though, especially the head design.
For me it's always the G1 version of Blaster. That DJ way he had of talking always made him feel like he was a lot of fun to be around. The scene where he is broadcasting the rock concert and everyone is acting like they are in pain except for Jazz was always a hilarious moment.
The electronics weren't removed !!?? i DEFINITELY remember listening to radio on my old Blasters in the 80's. maybe they released cheaper ones that were stripped later.. but in 86, it was a working feature.
This G1 Episode with Blaster & Tracks against Soundwave is one of my all-time favorite Transformers Episodes....and one of the Reasons why Tracks is one of my favorite Transformers.
I played Angry Birds Transformers a lot when I was little(er), so every now and then I’ll think of that game and realize “OH! OH! I get that reference now!”
I think all sound wave and blaster toys going forward should be bases formers like in titan's return. I think it's ideal for getting around their data mod and works wonders with the evergreen mini-cons.
I really do love the sound of the IDW Blaster mashup: keep the fun radio DJ personality of G1 while still giving him a sort of underground resistance role like early Marvel and the scrapped 1986 movie storyline. At the risk of sounding uninformed, haven't seen any media involving Blaster and I have to admit I was a little unfairly biased against him. I sorta had this preconceived notion of Blaster as this pallet swap designed to sell unsold Soundwave toys and his personality was just a Jazz/Warpath mashup, but damn, this guy seems like a genuinely fun character! Thanks for bringing this guy to my attention, Mr. McFeely! (And thanks, Jeff, for sponsoring this one!)
Bit of a funny misconception to have, since Blaster's toy doesn't share anything with Soundwave's aside from the cassette gimmick. Like, it's twice as large and completely differently engineered.

having a more fun character to really taunt soundwave is a cool idea I wish he got to do more. also that cassette gimmick was really cool and having an autobot that could do it would be so cool
I think we need an episode on the cassettes themselves, you know? Not only on more of the individual ones - like Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Frenzy, the Autobot ones, & especially the two sets of two-bot combiners - but also on the concept of the cassettes themselves. Why such were created in the first place, as well as why Laserbeak was the only one to ever have a Cybertronian form. (Which I still say needs its own toy. They finally gave us Cybertronian Starscream, for example, which will undoubtedly lead - as it always does - to the rest of the Seekers getting one, after all.)
Gotta love G1 Blaster from the original cartoons and The Transformers The Movie, my favourite incarnation by far, although I also enjoyed him as the freedom-fighter against Grimlock's tyrannical rule in the Marvel comics
Of course I go with G1 list and description of sound blaster any day as for his cassettes I wish you had more more cassettes which he does but they never made it on the TV show just like soundwaves.
Blaster was one of my favorite Transformers from Generation. He stood apart from the other Autobots with both his ability and his personality, though Jazz likewise stood out personality wise. I liked his Titan Master version, but its hard if not impossible to beat the original.
As a kid Soundwave and Blaster were my favorite transformers, largely due to their ablity to deploy smaller smaller transformers from their chests. It's a shame that became rather dated. I've often wondered how they could go about updating that function.

Gotta love G1 Blaster from the original cartoons and The Transformers The Movie, my favourite incarnation by far, although I also enjoyed him as the freedom-fighter against Grimlock's tyrannical rule in the Marvel comics
I liked G1 Blaster most and would love to see more of him in the future. As said best rival to Soundwave.
Blaster - gonna shake and roll with a touch of soul.
all the autobots at the ark - SHUT UP!
lol. best part of that episode. lol.
Really appreciate this stuff. There's something about Blaster that's SO classic, even though he was a bit of a latecomer in the original series.
1:43 jazz is dancing, lol jazz will always be my favorite.
Just love that last shot of blaster and soundwave in what looks like a niteclub at 8.19. :)
Comically enough, one of his cassette bots played a bigger role in the IDW line than blaster did. Rewind gets all the love :)
As a kid Soundwave and Blaster were my favorite transformers, largely due to their ablity to deploy smaller smaller transformers from their chests. It's a shame that became rather dated. I've often wondered how they could go about updating that function.
Imagine if there was a blaster that looked like soundwave on tf prime
