    Thanks for watching.

    Wow! I could hear that dry wood slurping as it sucked in the gel stain.

    I would like to ask for some advice please.
    I have an old wooden dining chair, which has been left in a spare garage for quite a number of years, which for a while had a bit of a leak so the chair was damp. It is now totally dry, but the joints seem quite wide (2-3mm) although the chair isn't loose at all.
    I fancy having a go at painting it, but was wondering whether I should try and get glue down in the joints, perhaps by sticking on some painter's tape to the bottom and sides, then squirting in the glue from above. Would this help in any way, or should I just fill the gaps with wood filler or maybe a 2-part Bondo type material.
    Regards from The UK

    Hello! Great video. Could use some advice regarding which foam you used? I have a similar chair and am looking to replace the foam. But can’t figure out which to buy?

    I have a teak chair and have been asking around the MCM forums of the best way to restore it. They are telling me to sand and use teak or danish oil. As I was watching your video, I was wondering what the benefit was to stripping the paint was versus just going straight to sanding. Please help. :)

    Is this chair made out of teak wood? I have some teak chairs and not sure whether to stain them so would like to know if yours are teak and what you stained them with? It looks amazing! Your videos have inspired me.

      Hi Catherine, sorry it took me so long to respond. These chairs aren't teak but I stained them with General Finishes Candlelite gel stain. If I was working on teak chairs I would usually use teak oil by Watco.

    What happens to the wood if you don't add the polyurethane after stain? Excuse the silly question, I'm quite new with working with wood staining.

    • @DashnerDesignRestoration
      @DashnerDesignRestoration  6 років тому +2

      The polyurethane provides a layer of protection. The stain alone won't provide any protection to the wood. It just colors the wood. Thanks for watching.

    Currently refinishing a chair like this and I find myself having a lot of difficulty in the stripping process/cleaning off the stripper. I'm using 3M pads with mineral spirits to try and clean the citristrip, but it just seems to stick around for so long. End up getting it all over my gloves/transferring more stripper onto already clean parts. Any advice for handling this? I also have the chair in pieces at the moment. Thanks!

    • @BillOweninOttawa
      @BillOweninOttawa 2 роки тому

      A scraper is your friend. More stripper also works. Yes, it seems wasteful, but it works. Try not letting it dry too much. There are many formulations out there now too. Try another brand. Good luck.

    Hello my friend, can you please tell me how many coats of the wipe-on oil poly and do you sand in between coats? Thanks again.

    • @DashnerDesignRestoration
      @DashnerDesignRestoration  7 років тому +5

      Jack Tate Hello, I usually do about 3-4 coats and sand lightly with 320 or 400 grit before I put on the last coat.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I found some chairs that are identical to this one. Do you know anything about the designer or how much they are worth? Thank you!

    • @enginerd2289
      @enginerd2289 5 років тому

      I think this is a chair by Baumritter. I have one that is nearly identical, but has a lower back. A quick online look shows that they can sell for around $1000 in excellent condition.

    I can’t believe you didn’t replace the upholstery strapping. It looks like you had the clips still attached at the beginning. It’s trivial-get elastic upholstery strapping from amazon, cut the pieces to length, and reattach to the frame.

    I notice you often use Deft spray laquer on many of your projects. Why did you opt for the wipe on poly with this chair? Just thinking the spray would be easier with all the nooks, dowels, etc. and I'm trying to decide what to use on a similar chair project.

    • @DashnerDesignRestoration
      @DashnerDesignRestoration  7 років тому +2

      I actually find wipe on poly to be easier for pieces like this. An aerosol can is tough to maneuver into the nooks. Wipe on poly is easy to get into tight spaces. As long as you can get your fingers into the space, you can get the poly in there too.

    • @nickcampbell4832
      @nickcampbell4832 7 років тому

      Great. Thanks! What do you use to apply the poly? Also, as a newbie to furniture restoration, is it best practice to strip and stain the entire frame (frame under the cushion, etc.)? I'm refinishing two of these exact chairs.
