Seriously, great interview. Just when you thought it couldn't get more real... it gets more real. As a kid of an immigrant, an outsider within, a hip hop loving, book reading, truth seeking American, I can relate to so much this man says. Tell it.
this might be my favorite interview so far from vice. i wish i was as proud and connected with my heritage as eddie is. just now realizing how much ive tried to remove myself from my roots and think of myself as a raceless, generic person, even when i cant escape the fact that people will always view me as just an asian person. ive grown up trying to be white. its time to "choose" to own my roots and embrace them.
48:00 this is exactly how I felt, when I began watching 'Off the Boat' I thought it was about food in different places but I learnt so much more than that and I am so glad I subscribed and watched it :D... I will be buying the book
Eddie is such a well spoken guy. Really enjoyed this interview. It's great to hear about his personal experiences and his parents' - regarding the move to America and the reasons why. Great watch even if you're not of Asian descent.
He articulates his thoughts into words so well. Eddie is the man, and he definitely has a great mind on him. I wonder when the new book is going to be released?
Happened to me when I was in California. People will never realize how hard it is to go through a system like this and I can relate because I'm only 2years older with a similar background.
I thought Eddie was just another Asian pretender trying to put a thick New York accent to compensate for a lack of identity. But the more I listen to him, I see that he is a proud Asian, and is very passionate about trying to advocate for Asian Americans.
This was really interesting to watch, Made me want to but the book. Also, Eddie is a great talker, very intelligent, unique in his own way. I wish I could go to Taiwan with him and listen to his philosophical thoughts and ideas. Very interesting guy
How is it "keeping it real" that a highly educated Chinese American lawyer raised in a prosperous upper middle class family has appropriated the language, clothing, and mannerisms of urban African-Americans? I guess people can agree to disagree that this cultural appropriation is cool or lame, but I don't see how anybody can claim its in any sense "real." Its the opposite of real.
***** You can keep it real by being educated and acting as if you are educated. But being educated and privileged, and appropriating -- and caricaturing -- others by pretending to speak non-conventional english, and aping their dress, mannerisms, etc., is not in any sense "real." It is fake. It is the very definition of acting.
+makanmata looool dude you're so lost. Stop categorising human beings. Just cause he did x he has to act like y? Lol it's 2016 bro. Widen your perspective. People today are whoever they want to be.
Huang can be whatever he wants to be. Just don't tell me its "real" and not caricaturing other human beings with his act. He's free to do it, just don't try and tell me its cool. Huang is pretty quick to criticize and lecture others about their behavior, and I don't see anything wrong with pointing out that he's a boorish and vulgar hypocrite.
I really liked this interview, it's so true what he said about how the internet can change a civilization completely in a short amount of time. Eddie you are the man, FOB baby.
Give this guy a talk show. Eddie comes off as an insightful social critic and overall affable dude. He just went up a whole nutha level in my book because of the ideas expressed in this interview. Props Eddie, looking forward to your future projects and book.
As a first generation Chinese American, my dad placed importance in exposing me to Chinese culture. I've gone to China several times, but the last time I went (last summer) I experienced the same shock as Eddie. I don't know how I didn't realize it as a kid, but I just fully realized that we, Asians, were the majority! I'm not the weird "chinoto" there!
To those of you complaining that the interviewer isn't doing a good job I'd like to see you ask Eddie questions and chat with him as he does. Go on.. I dare ya.
i randomly stumbled upon this inteview, didnt know who he was and haven't read his book but i enjoyed watching this interview until the end, he's cool and i'm curious to actually read this book
i dunno what to make of eddie. i dont like or hate him, but he just seems to be a real dude doing his own thing, nothing more nothing less. i respect that
Eddie, you got some good shit going on I really enjoy your spirit and how you connect. Love your shows cant wait to see more. This interview really inspired the shit out of me! Kiitos!
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! EDDIE HUANG IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! VICE IS MEANINGFUL TO WATCH AGAIN XD
The part where he described pops reaction to his memoir...."I'm sorry, I had no idea how hard it was for you to grow up here"...... My parents are immigrants as well, from Mexico....I'm a lot like Eddie without the college education yet can hang with the college educated damn it! lol....(you wont be able to tell any indifference, lol) but that part fucked me up. One day I will have a conversation with my father and perhaps he will admit the same as Mr. Huang, I still love my dad tho....
Eddie is one cool human being. I want a world of more Eddies's and less of corporate drones spouting marketing ideas about how an individual should pursue their own happiness! Keep it up Eddie!
Seriously, great interview. Just when you thought it couldn't get more real... it gets more real. As a kid of an immigrant, an outsider within, a hip hop loving, book reading, truth seeking American, I can relate to so much this man says. Tell it.
he's so well spoken and explains everything very well
Eddie always talk's the realest shit. And the way he put's it out there is so legit.

I feel like I resonate with Eddie. He's one of my heroes.

this might be my favorite interview so far from vice. i wish i was as proud and connected with my heritage as eddie is. just now realizing how much ive tried to remove myself from my roots and think of myself as a raceless, generic person, even when i cant escape the fact that people will always view me as just an asian person. ive grown up trying to be white. its time to "choose" to own my roots and embrace them.
Holy shit some real scary hate on some of these comments. Eddie is the realest. definitely looking forward to seeing more stuff from him
48:00 this is exactly how I felt, when I began watching 'Off the Boat' I thought it was about food in different places but I learnt so much more than that and I am so glad I subscribed and watched it :D... I will be buying the book

Great watch even if you're not of Asian descent.
This guy is honestly the fucking man
what a fucking dope interview.
This was a perfect interview. Both sides were articulate, intelligent, and curious.
He articulates his thoughts into words so well. Eddie is the man, and he definitely has a great mind on him. I wonder when the new book is going to be released?
i love his soul.
Happened to me when I was in California. People will never realize how hard it is to go through a system like this and I can relate because I'm only 2years older with a similar background.
I enjoyed the interview, answered alot of questions and raised a few more. Might just order that book now.
As a minority, I get what Eddies saying. Love this man.
love Eddy Moretti, he asks great introspective questions.
break the bamboo ceiling. Ha! love it!
I thought Eddie was just another Asian pretender trying to put a thick New York accent to compensate for a lack of identity. But the more I listen to him, I see that he is a proud Asian, and is very passionate about trying to advocate for Asian Americans.
I'm really excited about season 2 after Eddie's introduction right now

We want more eddie huang on vice! He brought me to vice. :)
This interview was very insightful and many ways, and as a TCK I identified with his struggles and life. More Eddie Huang!
This was really interesting to watch, Made me want to but the book. Also, Eddie is a great talker, very intelligent, unique in his own way. I wish I could go to Taiwan with him and listen to his philosophical thoughts and ideas. Very interesting guy
I love Eddie ! HE's a very philosophical and knowledgeable guy in his own way. Can't wait for his new show to start !
Awesome interview. Awesome guest. Can't wait to read Eddie's book.
great sit down. Eddie is entertaining to listen too and has such a steady view and vibe
Keep doing your thing my dude. Best interview I've seen in a while.
This guy's keeping it real. Very inspiring.

according to your logic you can't "keep it real" when being educated? Sounds a little strange to me +makanmata

This is awesome and inspiring. Looking forward to Eddies new project.
Much respect for Eddie. Love that guy.
I don't know how this has happened but Eddie is an inspirational dude that I really look up to. You're mad as shit Eddie.
if the expression 'down to earth' applied to anyone and still means something nowadays it should apply to Huang
the dude is seriously a cool cat
I really liked this interview, it's so true what he said about how the internet can change a civilization completely in a short amount of time. Eddie you are the man, FOB baby.
Eddie you have a great personality man.. keep it up !

Wow, that's one real cool dude. And this interview is so rare to come by and worth watching every second of it.
Love eddy moretti! Keep these coming!
I don't like his shows, but we think a lot in common. I am proud to see an ABC who values his history and identity so much.

Give this guy a talk show. Eddie comes off as an insightful social critic and overall affable dude. He just went up a whole nutha level in my book because of the ideas expressed in this interview. Props Eddie, looking forward to your future projects and book.
"I go to McDonalds 'cause, y'know, it's.. what I do."
My life in a nutshell.
Powerful Eddie Huang! There is nature vs. nurture, but there is also choice...
I love Eddie Huang, he's himself and doesn't pretend to be a better version of who he is. You can see that.
Very intelligent man. I love, love, love this guy.
I really liked what he said about your college major being the lenses to how you see life.
One of the best interviews.
Eddie is seriously the most down to earth person around.
Eddie just speaks truth...gotta love it
One of my favorite videos ever.
This was great I watched the whole thing
This interviewer is legit, asking all the right questions!
To those of you complaining that the interviewer isn't doing a good job I'd like to see you ask Eddie questions and chat with him as he does. Go on.. I dare ya.
that is so awesome that VICE got Tobias Fünke to interview Eddie!
eddie huang is the man
i randomly stumbled upon this inteview, didnt know who he was and haven't read his book but i enjoyed watching this interview until the end, he's cool and i'm curious to actually read this book

I love this guy's attitude.
"that's the scary part about the internet, we chase trends"
Also loved the Harry Potter metaphor. Dark yet true; Moretti was very smart in dodging it.
I only planed on watching like 10min and I ended up watching this whole video!!
Mr Huang...you have inspired me!
he came so close to saying staten island but said "sta" and then cut it off with shaolin. hahaha
have you ever had a video freeze when something profound is about to be said?
I'd like to have Eddie Huangs laugh as a ring tone.
Are you gonna get your audio book game on? I dont know how to read

Eddie is one of the realist guys on vice
Eddie is one cool human being. I want a world of more Eddies's and less of corporate drones spouting marketing ideas about how an individual should pursue their own happiness! Keep it up Eddie!
The interviewer didn't seem to connect with Eddie very well, he just wanted to ask the questions on the paper and not get into the discussion.
