Absolutely loved this video!! I am so glad I came across it. I never realized how much detail really goes into each room. The transitions were amazing! I respect you a ton for the dedication and time you put into these videos!! You’re doing awesome!
Thank you for positing this video. I am a SPD Tech doing my first clinical and this is one of the primary jobs that I am responsible for during the day. I liked seeing the similarirties and differences between your spd storage rooms, preference cards, and how you pick a case. I honestly did not know what "hold" meant, and was only told nurses have that in their storage (we have been gettting a lot of extra supplies back from our ORs and the preference cards havent been customized to the degree needed to prevent that). Again, your videos have been a tremendous help throughout my sterile processing program, and to understand the overall process and the needs of the people in the OR, and for the patients.
I just started a job at a hospital!. One of my jobs is putting away those returned unused supplies. I also stock the places the supplies come from originally too
Glad this is up. I'm a inventory control tech in the ED and I have to take two more pre req classes before I can start the surgical tech program. Love your videos
Hi! Your videos are great and very informative & I thank you for sharing. Have you ever done a video that includes how you like to secure bovie cords, suction, suction irrigator as well as all the cords for laparoscopic cases? If you haven't I would be very interested. Peace!
Our Case carts are bigger where I work. They are 3 layer stainless steel case carts. They have their own cart washer too since the dirty trays are sent down in them.
Same where I work, I’m CRCST in SPD. Where I work we do a lot of Ortho, total hips & knees. We have Multiple carts for each case, 1 with the disposeable items and general sets ie major bone , and power . Then 2 nd cart with vendor trays.
@@deannalynn858 What we do for loaners is similar. If we have a lot of loaners for 1 case, we put them in a case cart with a label containing the room number, time of surgery, Dr., last 4 digits of the MRN and quantity of loaners. That's how the scrub techs or nurses find the loaners they need.
@surgicaltechtips Shane, did you ever have a sense of being overwhelmed the first time you picked up your case cart by yourself or your preceptor? Keep up the great work! May the force be with you!
Depends on hospital. Our average is 45-60 a day. We dont pull our own cases central processing pulls our cases and we check it when we're setting up of somethings missing or not correct, we'll call down and order something
Love the videos man, been watching since the beginning. im in clinical now going back to these help a lot! I want a video on laparoscopic intrustments what you need to have for a lap chole as an example
Good stuff my man! Just wondering tho, are you doing these videos when the OR is slow like at night or when you are on call overnight? When I worked at a general hospital I remember having to pick a lot of stuff and more often. Now my case cart is picked for me and I just have to get a few extras because most of the stuff is in the packs. I work for an ortho only elective facility.
i wished our supplies room is that organized. no one reorganizes it when they start getting new supplies they just stick it at a corner where there is space and not even bother telling you.
Wondering if you have any other responsibilities while picking cases? Where I work we also transport patients from the floor to Pre op, so while pulling cases you get a phone call and have to stop working on cases and spend 20 to 30 min getting a cart and going to the floor finding the tech or RN to help transfer the patient wait for the elevator etc…then go back to pulling your case till the next call. The worst is emergency add on cases when they want the cases pulled and the patient at the same time.
How many types of sutures in the hospital are there? Also what different kind of rooms are there ie suture room, instrument room, supply room. Anything else
Thanks so much for making this video! It is great! Love the intro too. The setup I do every day for lab jobs is very similar to picking case carts. I’ve got a lot to learn, but I can so do this part of the job. Can’t wait to get started next month!
Basically they have what we call a Turnover pack. Its a pack of cleaning supplies a OR tech use when cleaning the room. They also use Sanitize wipes to wipe everything down as well. The Turnover Pack comes with mop heads for the floor as well.
The hospital I work at we have people to pull the case carts for the OR. The case carts are huge and “case cart pullers” only pull instruments and soft goods (not gloves) ..
Is it a common thing that surgeons wear two sets of gloves while doing a surgery, no matter how large or minor a surgery is. (Don't get me wrong all surgeries are major)
I'm a sterile processing tech. And we pick the cases along with decontam of the insterments, assembly and sterilization of the insterments.

@surgical tech tips Wondering if you can do a video on the process of returning unused supplies to the storage rooms at the end of a case

Thats a good idea to set up with nonlatex. Lots of time they don't tell me that there is an allergy until the patient asleep. 😰
+Matt McFatter exactly!
how long in advance do you pick the cart
Found this on reddit and LOVED watching it. Thanks for the effort!
Thank you so much for your videos. I am about to graduate Surgical Technologist degree and everything youve shown has helped me in some way.
I am about to apply for that same degree! Which class was the hardest for you?

For sure. Its an odd feeling coming into OR at first. Everything about it feels overwhelming, but you will quickly get over that.
You should never say "May the force be with you" It means the devil be with you.

So what's the pirson called that picks surgical instruments
i wished our supplies room is that organized. no one reorganizes it when they start getting new supplies they just stick it at a corner where there is space and not even bother telling you.
Very helpful video thanks
Are all you supplies bar coded so when you remove them from the supply room are they are scanned before use so re-ordering is automated?
Great vid!
What is the brand for your case carts with the pull out blue bins? 😊

That's ridiculous.
No way!!! I only pick up case cards and I don't transport patients.
Are SP tech and OR tech a part of surgical tech?
Great!
do you pick gowns gloves etc for every1 whos involved in the operation
stephen barker, yes. Most of your custom packs have at least 2 gowns already.
How many types of sutures in the hospital are there? Also what different kind of rooms are there ie suture room, instrument room, supply room. Anything else
My Hospital have well over 150, but depends on the hospital.

Can please tell me the name of the man please
Aren't you in a sterile environment? I thought that rings and watches are a no-no.
Although these videos are a huge help. You are doing good work.

Who stocks the room
Sterile supply workers.

Had an interview last week for surgical case cart picker. Very nervous about if I get it because I've only worked in the dietary department.
Did you get the job?
Forgot to mention I am aCRCST not CST, I work in sterile processing.
I work in a level 1 teams hospital and that cart is really small
Sometimes its overflowing, or we use two...

@@NaturallyInformedLady my Hospital is made like that , but we pick soft goods and gloves, gowns. Huge cases we have to pick.
I really love your videos. What is your name? How do I find you without scrolling .
