You’re right but good thing I got out and went to find a company where I’m out for 2 weeks and 3 days home. It’s flatbed and we do a lot of oversize. Way more exciting than reefer
Let me get this straight I have a class a license with no experience I'll get $600 a week but a trainee with no cdl gets $700 a week something wrong with that I'm just saying
I just talked to a recruiter today. If you have your cdl but no experience in the last 45 days you have to be evaluated on everything, just like when you passed the test at dmv. If they chose you need more training they can make you sign a 1 yr contract and charge you for the additional training. What i don't get, is you'd be in training for 60,000 miles. like that's not enough? It just seems like another way for them to lock you into a contract.
Do you have to have your tanker endorsement when you come ober to Prime? I am with a company now and not liking it. I am thinking about changing in 6 months.
I heard one of there training requirements is you have to be able to scarf down a large box of chesters chicken in 60 seconds to avoid clogging up the fuel island
I could never be a trainer. I wouldn’t trust another person on my truck, and CDL school is a joke so they’d be putting a person on my truck who could barely straight back, how could I sleep knowing that? The money ain’t worth it. Hats off
The trainer is supposed to bring the passenger seat the first week, the student drives in the daytime, the second week he can nite drive, you strengthen the students backing at every available chance. I wouldn't team drive until I was confident the student could control the vehicle. 30 days, if a student hasn't gotten the concept in that time period, I agree it may not be for him. As a matter of fact it is just reinforcement of the maneuvers learn in school. If the schooltaught them anything
@@mcrangelvlogs9396 Don't mind @EB he's the typical classy fella that would work for prime. Let him enjoy his 5 months straight on the road living with some 400 pound sweathog trapt in a little truck. And the best part is he will be making less then minimum wage lmao
@@Will.Rondo9 I have a dedicated run. Jackson Ms to Houston and back. I drive for YRC freight. I wouldn't recommend this company, unless you like the idea of forced teamed runs. Most linehaul companies only hire experienced drivers but get your doubles endorsement anyway. Gain some experience and keep your driving record clean. Your time will come. Patience is the key.
I think 60,000 miles is a bit excessive. Its very hard to run as a team doing flatbed. When I was in TNT, we only had solo loads, and it took me four months to finish the 40,000 I needed at the time. There's no way you can expect anyone to stay with a trainer for six months.
They need structure. I have heard from many drivers that driving a truck is an art. Of course it's an art. Art has structure and science and methodology. They need to have a program for trainers to follow. I KNOW people THINK everyone learns different but if you can't develop proficiency with a lot of rules, NOT the career for you. All trucking is rules, rules, rules. So why is training an art when driving is really just following a bunch of rules?
With 700 a week available for dispatch rules, and you out living in a Truck full time 24 hours a day 7 days a week for weeks on end, = below Federal Minimum wage. Good luck with this lack of pay.
I got my Cdl through prime at the beginning of 2017 and was paid 700 a week guaranteed plus extra after so many miles and they want to guarantee 600 for a driver with less than 5 months with a Cdl?. Lol prime must be hurting for money. Be ready to slave away. Best thing I did was leave prime. Local now hauling fuel, pay your dues and get enough experience and run. I guess they need all the money they can get since that lawsuit is going to the Supreme Court.

You keep talking the miles being dispatch miles. Make sure they understand that includes loaded and empty miles. So if the truck gets a load with say 300 deadhead miles and 1000 loaded miles they actually get credit for 1,300 miles.
Yeah exactly. I paid my $100 and was starting Prime on the 3rd until I heard about these changes. Switched to Swift. Too bad I can’t get my damn $100 back.
@@backwoodsp.n.w not true at all. I left prime and came over to swift. Swift has the miles to keep me moving while I sat a lot at prime waiting for a flatbed load. To me the only thing prime has going for it is the terminal in Springfield. So far in my years of driving, I haven't seen another terminal that comes close to the one prime has in Springfield. But if you're out here to be a terminal rat then prime is the place for you.
From what I understand its because they have too many drivers and not enough trucks the reason for the training change. Also hiring freezes in California, Georgia and Florida. If its true
I think it's not a bad idea for training, I think it's great to make sure a person is trained and able to see majority of things with the trainers over a period of time, that's how all training should be, probation period are usually 60 to 90 days, or internship for college degrees without getting paid at times. Im sure each industry varies
Good question and no. You still get the guaranteed because you are still showing available for dispatch. If you go home when trainer goes home then you will not get paid the guaranteed amount. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍🏽
Big M idgaf whether you believe me or not. I know what my bank account look like. I’m here for the people who need a way out and need proof from someone who has been successful with them.
I’m happy I’m not a new student at Prime anymore because the 50k TNT Miles seems just a little extreme to me, hell I was on my TNT trainers truck for 3 months And that felt like forever
Your training should be longer to tell you the truth. Some of the people at prime can't even remember what road to turn down to get to the terminal. Let's not forget that guy that ran over the guard shack a couple years ago and the one that just ran over a guy at the truck stop because he was in a hurry to fuel his reefer unit.
Lol.. try going thru Stevens Transport training.. you go with trainer for 50k. Then you go out with another student for 30k.. then nd only then you get your own truck
There are issues with this company. My son was told he could "upgrade" to his own (company) truck after 50,000 miles. His trainer is a leasee. Well, my son has 99,800 miles, has sent emails to his fleet manager and dispatcher, and they only tell him he is on the list, waited a few months and contacted dispatcher again and he said "I'll put you back on the list". Seriously? That was 40,000 miles ago!!! No one answers his email and no one answers the phone. The trainer he has takes too many days off, and my son sits in a damned hotel and does not get paid! He doesn't want to "rock the boat". The recruiter he had evidently lied, because there is no upgrade at 50,000 miles!
Yuck. I went with a driver trainer straight out of school for 3 weeks 1 week hauling steel (its flatbed) and it was only local driving. they put me in a hotel for a month and i started out making roughly 1500$ a week fresh out of training, and thats only mon-fri, i take my truck home every weekend. Sometimes more sometimes less. My truck had 40,000 miles on it was practically brand new. I got pretty lucky I think. Been here 3 years and now im getting a brand new cascadia mid roof with leather, apu, inverter fridge everything. If you live in the GTA and youre interested message me ill give you some details! They'll take you on if you have your license
exactly, that's the games they play. If they don't have enough equipment why hire more people. They want to force people to do their loads as a team and pay them pennies for it. no thank you
My worst experience in trucking was training....These companies are ripping the news guys off if u ask me....It shouldnt take 3-6 months to be able to work by urself....that shit is rediculous....Making people ride in a damn truck with another person all that time just isnt fair to the driver if u ask me
Not much money for so many months, but I plan on doing this till I get my 1 year in. I'll just have to put my stuff in storage and move in with my family till the year is over. I should be able to make it since I would only have 700 bucks in bills, each month.

Man, I’m so glad I didn’t go to Prime. This is hella excessive. It should just be 2-4 weeks with a trainer and then you’re on your own in your own assigned truck, with the option to stay longer with the trainer if the student doesn’t feel that they’re ready to be on their own for whatever reason. None of this crap about specific amount of miles the truck has to run before being eligible to upgrade to your own assigned truck. I also think that all students should train in a manual transmission truck and not have an automatic restriction on their license, but that’s just my personal opinion that many will probably disagree with. Driving a manual truck makes you a more skillful, safe driver, imo. All I know I will only drive manuals. Automatics are too boring and makes you more complacent.
JuanLeMod thats what i use to say but i dont get paid more or less for driving and automatic. Ill take an automatic in my work i drive in Santa monica Ca everyday. I started driving a manual and love it but traffic wise ill take a automatic. Keep trucking and i agree with you keep the new driver on a manual that way they get more in control and actually know how it feels shifting thru those gears up and down the grade then they will respect there fellow drivers. Prime teach your dirvers not to drive in the third lane in California and move over to the slow lane.
michael young What do you mean they’re not making manual trucks anymore? Where’s your source? I can go out today and buy myself a brand new 2020 Peterbilt 389 with an 18-speed manual transmission today if I wanted to. Sure, a lot of big fleets are sadly buying automatics only, but there are still a few small companies who continue to purchase manuals only. Most manuals purchased today are by smaller fleets and individual owner-operators.
michael young michael young again saving fuel is a way of saving money thats why AUTOMATIC trucks are taking over. Nothing wrong with an automatic but you can and will always have that options to get a manual just like cars today. Like the other guy said you can get a new 389 10,13 and 18 speed off the assembly line. If you dont know how to drive stick we understand you man. They are obsolete for the people that car drive what a real truck is suppose to be driven to be in control going down the i-70 feeling that power thru the gears upshifting and downshifting dont forget the cramp ok your left leg while in traffic. Again i repeat michael i drive an automated now. I am not going to lie they are nice, but there is nothing like learning on a manual then the automated guys wont be shitting there panties when they have to test on a manual. In summary learning manual just opens more doors for a driver.
Did you know yesterday MAVERICK transportation just sold their Temperature Controlled Division to KLLM...And they gave all their drivers 5 days notice before drivers transition to kllm or find another company.....how did i know this? Because im a driver in Maverick's TCD.... smh.....Bye MAVERICKS..... NOW, i got my 👀 on prime...lol
I did speak out once and I was not able to finish my training 😐 I have been declaimed by Prime with any orientation even my records are very good . Some lady recruiter don't want me to finish my conversation . I'm going with Schneider in July. You are very honest guy but not everyone.
That’s how prime is, same thing happened to me. I was forced to hauled hay from Nebraska for the owner of prime Rob Lowe to his farm in Springfield. I was lease op at the time, paid a dollar a mile. I refused the load and dispatch called me saying it’s for him and that I should do it, I told them it’s a cheap a$$ load and the owner can haul it him self. Yeah everything went to shit after that and I was starved out and left. Best thing to ever happen.
50k miles for a new hire? That's insane. I hired on with the mega carrier with the orange trailers. Got 5 days and 1900 miles OTR experience and was off on my own to figure it out.
But what about requirements of the trainer. As a Heavy duty towing and recovery operator. I can't stress how many times I have come across new drivers from various companies . With trainers that have less then one year of experience.
James Weddington FMCSA and DOT are taking the lead on that, mandating requirements to be a certified trainer. The big companies are already whining about those laws.
only problem i see with going with prime is all most 400 bucks a week for health care for a family holy shit you want make anything with paying that every week
Forget the proper training, how about the pay. Reminds me of Covenant Transport pay scale that goes by least miles makes more money but always get dispatched on long miles to make less per mile. Go Union.

Trucking with Carmen B. Yes you do
I heard one of there training requirements is you have to be able to scarf down a large box of chesters chicken in 60 seconds to avoid clogging up the fuel island
I did the 30 thousand miles. It was always the miles as a team. Nothing has changed except more miles with trainer
It used to be that a company would not hire you unless the driver had 2yrs. under his belt ...

Screw truckload. Get your doubles endorsement and get on with a linehaul company. Home on average every other day, average yearly salary around 80k.
If I were to run doubles, It would have to be locally. Is that possible?

I think 60,000 miles is a bit excessive.
Its very hard to run as a team doing flatbed. When I was in TNT, we only had solo loads, and it took me four months to finish the 40,000 I needed at the time.
There's no way you can expect anyone to stay with a trainer for six months.
That's how long I stayed with a trainer when I started at Prime..🌚
Zane Rhyne Dude must have been cool af to stay that long.
It's training douche! 3 months out of a trucking career. I think people can manage.
It's the start of your career,,, would you expect the pay of a military General while you are in basic training?
You’re getting paid to learn
@@HenryPaulThe3rd you must work prime because you're doing a lot of boot licking in the comments 🤔

Nah not at prime u only get paid for loaded
For TNT the trainee is paid for all miles- just like a company driver. And all miles count toward the upgrade point
@@charlessmith8810 bro I was just at prime they didn't pay me for empty but they prob just changed it

None of those are good. I started at 45cents a mile my first year. I'm 28 now and get paid 50cents now. Gotta look for the small companies
@@backwoodsp.n.w not true at all. I left prime and came over to swift. Swift has the miles to keep me moving while I sat a lot at prime waiting for a flatbed load. But if you're out here to be a terminal rat then prime is the place for you.
@@Shivris wow... U got me researching Swift now
From what I understand its because they have too many drivers and not enough trucks the reason for the training change. Also hiring freezes in California, Georgia and Florida. If its true
What's there CSA Score??
I think it's not a bad idea for training, I think it's great to make sure a person is trained and able to see majority of things with the trainers over a period of time, that's how all training should be, probation period are usually 60 to 90 days, or internship for college degrees without getting paid at times. Im sure each industry varies
So what if your trainer goes home? Do you get screwed out of that guarantee?
Good question and no. You still get the guaranteed because you are still showing available for dispatch. If you go home when trainer goes home then you will not get paid the guaranteed amount. Thank you and thanks for watching 👍🏽
If your trainer yelling at you most of the time and he is in bad mood
What to do
Are they really training or are they being used as team drivers. How are you training when you're asleep in the back?
My team experience was invaluable. I am flatbed and I learned allot about running my clock trip planning and load securement.

You obviously suck because it shouldn't have taken y'all 3 months to do 30,000 miles. Y'all should have been driving at least 5,000 a week.
Your post is a year old I see. Any update on how things turned out. I'm getting into it myself and am trying to find what to expect.
Hi junior I’m coming to Prime July 13th I’m very excited to enter the training program
If you keep driving you'll be in an automatic soon enough, they're not making manual shift trucks any more..
michael young they are still making manual truck sir just that big corporation companies go automatic due to fuel economy.
michael young What do you mean they’re not making manual trucks anymore?

Up the damn driver pay
So what was the old one for d seat? Is it more or less miles now? And is 50,000 miles combined between the two of you or just what you put in?
50000 is a half year give it take. It is too long. Go get trained somewhere else
These companies are over complicating the process.
But what about requirements of the trainer. As a Heavy duty towing and recovery operator. I can't stress how many times I have come across new drivers from various companies . With trainers that have less then one year of experience.
James Weddington
FMCSA and DOT are taking the lead on that, mandating requirements to be a certified trainer.
Go Union.
Pablo H. Sanchez Useless Express uses the same scale miles and more like county to county and HHG, whichever makes them more money.
The only thing I see good about it one getting guarantee money not getting paid by the miles when training. Two if someone doesn't know how to drive a stick they will get trained to drive one . But their a few videos I watched where it looks like the trainee are driving automatics trucks

Also $600 as long as you're available for dispatch? So, you're telling me I have to be out 7 days a week to earn $600 in a week? You can get $600 - $700 a week at most of the other mega carriers only driving 5 days a week. Prime is really going down the crap shoot.
Which companies are you referring to
