  • Back in 2011 the Chrysler Sebring was retired and the Chrysler 200 was born. Today this mid-sized entry level luxury car comes as either a 4-door sedan or a 2-door convertible equipped with a 4-cylinder or V-6 engine. The base price for the 2013 Chrysler 200 is $19,695 with the top of the line S Convertible costing $33,020.

    Once upon a time America was known for its big convertible cars. These days the pickings are slim with only the Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, and Chrysler 200 coming from the factory as convertibles. The 2013 Chrysler 200 with no doubt be the choice for those wanting top down fun without the high price tag that a muscle car brings. The Chrysler 200 Convertible is available in 3 different trims including: Touring, Limited, and S.
    Under the hood of the Chrysler 200S tested here is a 3.6 liter V-6 Pentastar engine that makes 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic which helps the 200S net 19 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway. The 4-cylinder only manages 173 horsepower and fuel economy is only a few MPG's better. The Pentastar engine is no slouch off the line as the V-6 200s went from 0-60 MPH in a respectable 7.2 seconds.
    Chrysler knows their market well and the ride and handling of this 200S convertible is smoother than the old Sebring chassis with the emphasis put on comfort rather than carving corners. On the inside the soft touch interior has a subdued elegance with diffused LED lighting, a leather wrapped steering wheel, and nice leather surfaces. The front bucket seats that are 6-way adjustable and come with a 2-level heating ability which is nice for driving with the top down on cold days. The Uconnect command center features a 6.5 touch screen display with navigation, streaming audio, a hands free Bluetooth system, and a hard drive for music and photo storage.
    Operating the top is as simple as pushing a button. A cloth top is standard and a convertible hardtop is an option. Chrysler has played its cards carefully. While there are a ton of import convertible cars on the market, the Chrysler 200S Convertible is the only game in town if you want a near luxury car made by an American brand.

    BEST CONVERTIBLE (and all automobile manufacturer) EVER! I had my first ever convertible that I bought on March 17th, 2021. It was a 2012 Chrysler 200 Limited Convertible in almost perfect condition. I literally had the time of my life. It was truly beautiful & sooo much fun! Unfortunately, Disappointingly, & Sadly, it was totaled on June 3rd, 2021.
    A young & novice driver hit it dead on. I was able to drive it home and was hopeful that it'd be totally repairable.
    It took about 5mos for her insurance companies to come through on which company will handle tor situation. This was bc it was the drivers' grandmother's vehicle however the girl had a different insurance under her parents.
    When I could finally bring it in to the collision center I got the phone call informing me that the engine and other innards were too far shifted. Even if they'd fully repair it, it still wouldn't be as safe and/or cost more than its worth. 😓 Broke my heart!
    The money I got back wasn't enough to get another one since the insane 2022 inflation.
    Being that my job was a Doordash Driver, I was/am screwed.
    I pray everyday to receive a blessing that'll help me get another Chrysler 200 Limited Convertible or a 200 S Convertible!

    I can't believe all the trash talk on this car and Chrysler in general. They are damn nice cars with power and class. So what it doesn't do a faster 0-60. Your not buying the car to race it, your buying it for a smooth stylish ride. That's something that people lack nowadays. So you wouldn't know style if it hit you in the face. I had driven one of these, and for the price, your getting a lot of car. I would be glad to own one.

      The 2.7L made everyone hate Chrysler, and you can't blame them, that engine was trash. This car is a step in the right direction, but it will take decades of quality vehicles to make people thrust chrysler again.

    So, the 6 cylinder gets better mileage than the 4 cylinder? Sounds like it's time for a redesign on the 4-banger.

    I understand that today's market is not a convertible market, but it is disapointing that the hardtop version was discontinued. I opted for the 2015 VW Eos when I was looking for a new car (no complaints...it's a great convertible), but I would have liked to see this as an option at the time.

  • @bmwmsport11
    @bmwmsport11 11 років тому +1

    its because the 4cyl is still only avaliable with a 4-speed automatic. also that 4cyl engine is quite dated to its no match against this modern pentastar with a modern 6-speed automatic.

    Ford reports that they're cutting the weight of the upcoming Mustang by 400 lbs, which would seem a lot, but considering that most likely the base powerplant will be a 4 cyl turbo and the car will be smaller than the current model, I don't think they've gone far enough, another 100 lbs would be nice, imagine if it could match the Camaro V6 in 0 to 60? and get better mpg's to boot.

    Why doesn't more American auto-makers have convertible cars? I know GM just unleashed the new drop-top Buick, but really that's all we've got! This, the Buick, and the muscle cars that the average consumer dreaming of owning a convertible wouldn't go for because of high insurance and fear of losing control of such a powerful car.

      @@PoisonIvy0287 When I made this comment 7 years ago they hadn’t started talking yet about how basically every automaker was gonna switch to SUV’s and crossovers only. Now that’s pretty much the case, unlikely we’ll see any new convertibles any time soon, much less from Buick who’s entire lineup is only crossovers and SUV’s, especially now, the focus is more on electric cars and improving self driving software. Convertible cars are quickly becoming a thing of the past and reserved only for high performance car options. Only automaker still making decent family-sized convertibles today is Rolls Royce, it seems. Nothing in the American market except still… muscle cars… and even still I think it’s only the Camaro and the Mustang.

    Uhhh... I live in an "urban area" and drive a 2002 Chrysler Sebring soft-top convertible comfortably. I wouldn't buy a hard-top just for that silly purpose, if they want to break in your car they're gonna break in your car regardless of what kind of top you have or even what neighborhood you parked it in. I personally like hard top models better because I think it looks better, probably seals out rain better and longer, better wind noise reduction, and I like how most people don't even know it's convertible. So that "urban areas" joke... completely un-called for, as it doesn't sway my opinion on my drop-top choice.

    We have a 2012 Chrysler 200. When putting the top down it starts fine. The trunk opens fine. Then it unlatches from the windshield. The top starts moving back towards the trunk then it suddenly STOPS! That's all it does. Will not go through the full cycle. All I can do is put it back up. Any thoughts on what it could be? Thanks in advance.

      You are low on pump fluid.. The motor that drives the top.. Hope you got it up and converted. I own a 200 conv. too and a slow or non complete convert means a low pressure or a clogged line.

    Dan, I barely see any convertibles with the top down here in So Fl. combination of hot, unforgiving sun, safety concerns and even the fear of soft top vandalism is killing the segment, I doubt the new 'stang will come topless!

      Yes, So baseless isn't it? Where ever would one get the idea that you are more likely to get robbed in urban areas? Other than decades of statistics and facts, that is.
      Sorry, but if reality is so offensive to you that you need to attempt to silence those who speak it by whining of 'racism' then maybe you are ashamed of reality. Meaning its your problem.

    • @potcha
      @potcha 7 років тому +1

      Typical emotion based reply with zero substance. I never even mentioned "ghettos" I pointed out that urban areas always have more criminal elements. You of course, know this is true and therefore ignore trying to refute the facts and fire off an emotional rant.
      You simultaneously equate stating these facts with "racism" and then go on to make excuses for it with your "systematic racism" spiel. So which is it? You deny the truth of it, or you admit it's true and then excuse it? Either way, it's pathetic.

    • @OfficialMarkieB
