  • This car came out of the mothballs to make it's public debut at Monterey Car Week. I spotted it during the Carmel-By-The-Sea Concours on the Avenue event and had to learn more about it. As it turns out, the car's owner has DEEP roots in Ford Racing history, as he is the nephew of famous drag racer Les Ritchey. He explained the rare features on the car, including the fiberglass hood (with tear drop scoop), minimal interior with no seam sealer or insulation and of course, the 427ci High Riser Ford engine. This is one of 50 cars built, and one of only 25 four-speed cars. It is one of only 26 Lightweight Galaxies known to exist today. All were painted white and all had red interior. I love the plain steel wheels and Firestone bias ply tires...what a killer piece of Ford Racing history!
This car was stashed away for over 35 years before the owner was able to buy it and get it back going. The paint is 35 years old, but the rest of the car (including all of the upholstery) is original. Listen in as he gives us the scoop on this incredibly rare car, a TRUE factory drag car from 1964.

I grew up in a really small town in Indiana and there was a doctor who lived there that had one of these new. He used to have it outside his garage occasionally and I would be walking by and just marvel at that hood. You just knew it was something special.

Thanks, I grew up in WILMOT, IN( after State buying Family Farm) & : NOBLE *( 1965WOLF LAKE HS), Kosciusko **Counties..interestingly, had a Schoolmate get one of those 1963.5 BLACK/ Black 427/4 speeds new: lot of tires burned up, & engine blew by FALL 1963(?).. did reinforce my interest in CARS/ Performance stuff: we had seen the Catalina 421/ Lake pipes/4 SPD AUTO, from 1962; some traffic from US30/Bunker Hill/ AVILLA/ FORT WAYNE DRAGSTRIPS,ETC.( I had a , lot of time in NORth WEBSTER SERVICE STATIONS also)……..the Factory programs interesting ((ps Studebaker, * a lot of Dealers got in Racing various ways),,,,,Always good to,see the INDY500 Pace Cars ( “ officials”) over the years, too: really interesting…

It is wild that they used the seats out of a Dodge A100 van and not from a Falcon van. Maybe they are lighter. I let a set get away from me. If I hadn't, they would be in my 64 Galaxie fastback now.

Wrong bumpers. No 427 "lightweight" 427 cars had chrome bumpers. All had had aluminum bumpers and fiberglass fenders, doors, hoods, and trunk lids.

Hi if possible I would love to know more about where les ritcheys vehicles are? Or more history? Or memorabilia willing to sell. Les was my uncle that I have never met. I am on the hunt to learn who the gentlemen was as well that is a nephew as well to les. My dad (his brother) never spoke much about him but hung his clippings In frames everywhere, he also raced his car at fontana and never lost In it. Growing up he never wanted to talk about it. So here my family is today trying to purchase his cars, memorabilia or any stories to tell. He sounds like he was a stud and kind and funny. Please help me find my answers thank you
