  • The volunteers from 775 Offroad and Recovery go snow wheeling and test out the theory that you get less traction if you air down in the snow. This was a fun, non-scientific experiment. Mostly an excuse to play in the snow. Let you know what you think, do you air down when snow wheeling or not!

That other guy was using winter snow/ice tires. Those tires work best at their normal pressure (there are a few good videos out there that show this). It doesn't matter if it's hard pack or fresh snow.
All terrains and mud terrains both do way better in hard pack and deep snow when aired down. Ice is debatable what psi is best...it's just bad.

I just use a valve stem remover tool. Rip one out, go do the next tire and go back to the first one. Usually works perfect for me per side. I only run 18 psi all around on the street at 5-7psi for snow wheeling. You need to get into the single digits to make a big difference. Also taller the sidewall, the better.

its all about trying to make your tire into a snowshoe via deflation the bigger the tire the more dramatic the result, with taller sidewalls achieving more squish equaling a larger foot print.

FX4. Cut on the rear locker. Honestly those rangers and F-150 FX4 is kind of suck without the Locker on.

Just posted a new UA-cam video about snow wheeling and getting stuck in the Truckee area! We had aired down to 18 psi. Great video!

I just watch the other guy's video, he was on hard pack, trail groomed snow with possible ice underneath.

I wonder what this difference is on snow specific tires and how they’re designed? Maybe the sidewalls do weird things and ruin the contact patch if they’re not inflated properly?

Ice tires have all those little lines in them for traction. Perhaps that's the deciding factor in them working better aired up, in that one little situation. Overall, I think airing down will benefit most.

I always air down to 15psi, I have 35’s on 15” wheels. Good floatation! Specific ice snow tires want a specific pressure, for those is all about the compound of the rubber.

Dude I run 18 psi on the street year round on 35 12.50 r15. You'll benefit greatly going below 10 psi

Most of the vehicles on the video could have aired down to 8psi without issue. The Jeep probably fine at 5-6. 3 Wraps of gorilla tape on the inside of the wheel and go even lower. Serious snow wheeling requires grooves and Siping typically on MT radial tires.

For snow people air down to like 0-2psi. It’s gotta be pure flotation

now it depends on what your doin just tryin to cut threw snow or actually float 5 feet of snow then single digits will let you float its amazing even with out lockers also depends if its that sugar snow and its freezing out with ice blow any tire less chains will work there if have warm day dumping fluffy powder then you can float

If your rolling street tires Offroad, you gonna have problems. We test all-terrains and mud tires in this video.
