Hocus Pocus captured the childlike magic of Halloween. It was exciting, heartwarming, a little campy, and just creepy enough without traumatizing a younger audience. It just had the right balance, which I think is why it has endured. Plus, it didn't suffer at all from Bette Midler's charisma.

I’m guessing Leo turned down Hocus Pocus to play more lucrative roles. If that was the case they should have asked him to play Binx instead. It would have been less of a time commitment and he could have worked the voice roles around what ever other project he was on. I think he would have made a great Binx.

I actually saw Hocus Pocus when I was super late since I wasn't a Disney Kid. I was 23 when I first saw it with an ex of mine, and while I can't explain why, it was a huge hit for me. It really made me feel like a kid again. Since then I watch it every year!

Honesty you can really see the Dark Elements in the original. This is why I loved it so much as a kid, including the musical parts. As much as I LOVE this movie, I sometimes wished while watching that they went more dark with it.

Despite Bette, Kathy, and Sarah getting top billing, Thora, Omri, and Vinessa are the REAL leads in the movie. The kids are in almost every scene; while the three witches are in and out and probably only have 30 minutes screen time altogether.
I watched it when I was 10years old and watching it was as adventurous and a bit scary as watching the first two Harry Potter movies. Although I liked it a lot, I had a black cat, so since what happens to Binx in the end made me cry my soul out, I didn't want to rewatch it for 20 more years. This year I finally did it and loved it! I absolutely adore the witches! It's so much fun to watch them every single second.

Leo actually turned down “Hocus Pocusl to do “What's Eating Gilbert Grape”. Hocus Pocus was released 5 months before “What's Eating Gilbert Grape”... Realistically, producers wouldn’t really have known who Leo was since at the time he auditioned, he had only done two films and both were straight to video films. He didn’t have his breakout role until 1995 with “Basketball Diaries”.

I love Hocus Pocus for my childhood. When I was kid watched it before few days I went trick or treat Halloween every years. This movie is the best Halloween movie ever but I miss trick or treat. I hate when I’m an adult for nothing Halloween :(
Funny am watching this clip interview. Hocus Pocus is one of my fav childhood movies and i watch it all the time doesn't matter what month or season.
I have no doubt that the key to the movie’s enduring success was the director’s choreographic approach - and the casting.
Omg.. I remember my mom and I would rent movies from the grocery store and her telling 6 year old me.. "Arent you tired of Hocus Pocus" because I would choose to rent it over and over again and watch it on repeat! Good ol VHS days.

Bro I remember staying up late one night catching hocus pocus on Disney channel. THAT WAS THE SCARIEST SHIT TO ME. I enjoyed the film but dude I had to be like 4 or 5 years old and I couldn’t move to pee because I was scared the witches were in my closet lol
also for whatever reason, the zombie’s eyes when they get big as the witch flies towards him TERRIFIED my soul for whatever reason. I’m 20 and I still feel uncomfortable seeing the zombie 😂 great film!!
