the solos being short are epic, sprinkled throughout the song and makes you want to keep listening it hooks so well.

One of the better channels reacting to Opeth! Appreciate it! Sad that we missed out on your first meeting with Ghost of Perdition, but looking forward to Reverie/Harlequin Forest, The Grand Conjuration, Bleak, The Leper Affinity and Master's Apprentice

I may do a revisit of Ghost of Perdition at some point!

If you haven't already, you owe it to yourself to listen to the studio version. This is a good performance, but I almost feel bad that you didn't get the full effect on your first listen. The live mixing, and the fact that Mikael wasn't on top of his growls at this time make it not fully representative of the brutal assault this song is.

I couldn't agree more. The studio version vocals are the most brutal I have ever heard, and he never does it live the way he did on the album version.

Opeth is my favourite band, but you might want to try Leprous - The Sky is Red, if you want to react to someting different.

For me, one of their best solos is the one in Harvest, it seems out of harmony but it fits surprisingly well.

Since you love Opeth, you HAVE to react to literally any performance from Roundhouse Tapes. It it the absolute peak of his growls, and the musicianship is just flawless. I recommend Demon of the Fall, but you can't go wrong with any choice.

Ahh, great choice! Watershed was my introduction to Opeth, so obviously those are the first two songs of theirs i heard. Safe to say my mind was blown :) I wasn't into growls at all either at that time, but I couldn't stop listening. I then found out they were playing in my city in a couple of weeks. Went to that gig and they absolutely blew me away. Now I regard Opeth as the greatest band I've ever heard.

I was in the crowd that night! I recommend to listen to the studio version this time! Mikael’s harsh vocals where not the best let’s say in those times in my opinion. I saw them 20+ times live and he is much better then this even nowadays 🖖

Good to have you back! I kind of missed you a little bit. Sorry to hear about the turbulance in your life. I really love how you quickly pick up on details with short insightful comments, eg that they tend to keep their solos short and purposeful. Keep it up! As you stated early on, production quality here is not on par with the Red Rocks performance, not their best version of Blackwater Park either. Ghost of Perdition, Deliverence, Sorceress, etc from Red Rocks are just as good as the album versions (or even better imo). For Blackwater Park you need to listen to the studio version to get the true epicness of this masterpiece. There's no other way around it. I do like that you prefer Live performances as I prefer to watch reactions of live performances as well. A band is only as good as they can play Live right, and if they can transcend the album versions of favorite songs we have true bliss. Looking forward to the next one! Cheers from Sweden!

Thanks so much for the comment. Been meaning to respond to this for a few days. A yours and a few other comments have made me aware of the fact that this may not have been the best version of this track. So I will give the studio version its rightful due.
Thanks for the guidance along the way, Lars. Much appreciated.

I am enjoying very much your discovery :) been there a few time back. Tool was my all time favourite band for years and dream theater followed with a big gap between them, for me nothing could come close to Tool... I knew about Opeth but It took me forever to really listen to them because of the growls, I suppose they threw me off for many years, just could not like anything with them... but when I gave them a real chance, Opeth kicked Tool right out of the podium and took their place with no pitty lol.
First it was Ghost Reveries that just knocked me off my feet in a way I cant describe, then Blackwater Park came (the album) and after I heard the first 4 songs I knew I had a serious problem kkkkkk then came Deliverance and that was IT, my soul was taken :) I once read a comment saying DT speaks to your imagination, Tool speaks to your brain and Opeth speaks to your soul, for me that is quite correct. I prefer them now for a number of reasons, but how they always get me on the heart is the main one for sure.
Saw them live a few weeks ago and it was quite insane, how the hell do they have that much fun and energy after more than 30 years? Amazing stuff. Nowadays I love the growls, especially Mikael´s, just top notch... and along with his clean voice... even better :)
Sorry for the long text :D hope you keep going and enjoying as well! Good luck with your house.

What a great comment that I really relate to especially your journey. I grew up with both Tool and DT, loving them both. I still listen to an album from one of them weekly.
Like you, I had a knowledge of Opeth and I knew that people I knew and respected really loved them but I just assumed it was a band I would never “get”. I’m kicking myself for that assumption. I could not have been more wrong.
While it is slow going, I am almost enjoying taking in Opeth bit by bit. It is allowing me to not just consume a whole bunch all at once and not appreciate it. And I’m really enjoying the ride. I set out to not make this channel and Opeth reaction channel, but maybe that’s exactly what it will be for sometime and I think that’s OK.
Thanks so much for the, and for watching I hope you can enjoy the rest of my journey!

@@NormalGuyReacts a whole album once a week? that’s a good plan! Maybe I will copy your ideia :) I still love them, saw DT on September and enjoyed it very very much, it was my first time hearing The Count of Tuscany live and I love this song, it was awesome.
It is funny how we set these boundaries for ourselves and later on realize they mean nothing really :) nice to step out of your habitual zone and try new sounds, never too late. Instead of being mad at yourself - I kind of was too - try seeing how you could never have known them at all… even better, you have plenty to go on and they are still active and kicking ass \m/
Enjoy your journey, at your own pace, hope you keep enjoying them and if it turns out to be an opeth channel for now… count me in :D
