yeah and that's what makes kenny one of the few special characters in the show because near his death in the end he achieved the compassion he always wondered if he would get by being the strongest and let go of his dream also maybe!! armin's the same after reaching the seas but characters like Eren and Erwin both always remained slaves to their dreams!!

I only recently realised that while Kenny is assumed to be evil because he is stated to be a serial killer of MPs , it's actually due to the fact that the military police were hunting down his family. Honestly, his killing of the MPs is far more justified than the stuff he did as a part of the kings personal squad, like almost killing Historia as a literal child. While he is trying to prevent him from interfering, I'd guess from his nonchalance that he wasn't seriously trying to kill Levi, and even prevents his No.2 from trying to hunt him down.
(There's also a line that was cut, where he calls him his pride and joy, because he taught him everything he knew, and that's why it's his responsibility to stop him from interfering.)
And obviously we all know only because he joined the king was he able to prevent the persecution of the Ackermans. Even his motivation behind trying to obtain the founding Titan is that he wanted to be able to feel how it feels like to be compassionate, not realising that (as the show flashes quick moments that showed his care for Levi and his subordinates) he already was capable of it, but became so mired in self-hatred to the point that he couldn't accept someone like him becoming someone's father. I think his final appearance speaks for itself. That scene adds a ridiculous amount of context to the character in such a short time. Not to mention the thematic value his character's philosophy then goes on to imbue the show with. Just goes to show that you shouldn't trust AoT to just give you a straight up serial killer and not a complex tragic anti-hero instead.

@@jrlombardi5251 It's been a year and nobody answered your question. It's been a year but here's nothing.
Basically Historia wasn't as driven and accepting of her new role in the manga as she was in the anime. Historia started to panic and unable to take it.
Levi basically motivated her in a very aggressive way. He basically lifted her carrying her by the collar of her robe and defiantly told her "If you want to stop me, then fight!" This is also the reason why Mikasa ended up sealing the deal by telling Historia "Once you're Queen hit that little runt."
Honestly, while many not liking this change in the anime. I personally like it, because it makes Historia's character more mentally strong. Her moments of doubt and insecurity already passed with the entire eating Eren debacle.

    • @jrlombardi5251
      @jrlombardi5251 7 місяців тому +2

@@danielmunoz1275 First, I think you misinterpreted what happened here. I didn't ask anything, I said that what happened with Historia and Levi was skipped and someone else asked me what chapter was that in, to which I asked if they were asking for Levi and Historia, to then later say what chapter it happened in.
Second, in my opinion this thing in manga makes Historia's character way way better, bc she isn't just strong and that's it, it makes more sense with her character and allows an entire in which we see an amazing evolution. After Ymir leaves Historia feels really lost and she hasn't found her strength or own path, that's why it makes sense she seems so submissive and vulnerable when Levi does that to her, but in manga that happens when the arc just starts, so later she can have her entire arc by being kidnapped, getting with her dad, rejecting him, etc, that's where we see actually evolving, finding herself, her own strength and choosing her path, that's what makes so powerful that later on she could go directly to this situation in which she was so helpless and mistreated and go like "I'll do it bc now I'm able to choose for myself, but you need me so I'll take advantage of that and do what I want, I have conditions", and that's when she demands stuff like fighting Rod, thing no one would have let her do if it wasn't bc she went for it and used her position as successor in her favor. At the start of the arc she's so lost that she would have given her entire life to the crown just bc they screamed at her to do it, bc they forced her, after her development she becames this person able to face and demand the stuff she wants to the person that mistreated her. That's not just better written but to be honest, way more badass and showing more strenght. To me being able to face (and even punch lmao) something or someone that previously scared you and made you give up, shows way more strength than just being naturally able to bear it the first time it is presented to you bc you just got to that point in your personality already. At the end of the day she took that thing they were forcing on her and made it her own, she made it her way, turning the tables (that's also why many confuse her conclusion with her just ending up doing what others made her do, ignoring she's actually choosing it for the best for her people but also making it be as she wants to have her best life inside of it, getting an actual happy conclusion). It could have been something that they decided for her and her old self would have accepted it, in the other hand she grew up and made that necessary thing her people needs, something that she also wants and that will also make her happy, having the strength to rule and live as she wants while helping her people, even when others tell her she should do a different thing. That's what makes her such a different queen, as Jean and Armin talk about just after she's crowned.
In the anime they just make her already be bc they put the scene after all her arc and just make her ooc and unrealistically take the decision that will change her entire life and put the destiny of what she thought was the entirety of humanity in her hands in like just 10 seconds with barely any doubt before, and then pretty randomly punch Levi bc Mikasa just thought about it... That honestly didn't look good, then nowhere as amazing as in manga and then even badly written for both her quick decision and the lack of reason for her decision towards Levi. That moment in manga is way more badass and makes her the empowered strong woman she is (and also someone different to so many in the fandom thinking royalty is just cool and being the queen badass so obviously taking the chance, when it is way more than that and a much more difficult decision and position a ton wouldn't want for what it really is, that she doesn't want but take a it bc it's necessary and changes what she can to make her her own thing, even ending up living more like a humble farmer than anything else).
Tbh, I'm really sad they cut off so much of her arc. The anime is better than the manga, but not this arc. Another change I hated from this arc for example, is how they deleted the sequels that Armin's sexual assault left in him and scenes of his friendship with Jean bc of this.
I'll never understand people who thought this arc was boring in manga and wanted it shorter in anime. It's such a shame.

Little fun fact before we get to the Kenny analysis: In the manga, there's actually a small flashback involving Historia and Frieda. Frieda wonders why Historia's hand is hurt. And Historia tells her it's because she tried climbing over the fence. Frieda becomes uncharacteristically angry and her eyes gloss over as if someone else is talking. And she screams, "I told you to never go over the fence!" The fence is obviously an allegory for the walls and how the first King seems content with leaving humanity inside them. And anyone who tries to leave must be reprimanded. Which is honestly really sad. Frieda genuinely seemed like she wanted to help. But because of the First King, she could do nothing.
This episode was honestly such a good ending to Kenny's character. I love him for what he brought to the story and how unique he was. Seeing that he loved Levi but couldn't be a dad for him was sad. His curiosity for if having Uri's power would turn him compassionate and all powerful. He was so intrigued and moved that someone so powerful would bow to trash like him. So he had to know. That was his dream. Find out that truth. So when Rod revealed the truth to Eren, his dreams and goals were crushed and he had nothing left to live for. He used his last ounce of strength to give Levi the closure he wanted. After finding closure within himself. His monologue about how everyone is a slave to something is honestly pretty true and means a lot. But yeah, since the anime removed the scene of Levi choking Historia, Mikasa telling her to hit him back doesn't even make sense. In the manga, it happens before Eren or Historia get kidnapped(and it's actually the Reeves boss who tells Historia to hit Levi for doing that)
R.I.P. Kenny Ackerman. You brought a lot of chaos and comedy to the show. Now then, on to MONKE.

I think Kenny’s words “Everyone had to be drunk on somethin’ to keep pushing on…
Everyone… was a slave to somethin’.” is one of the themes of this story.
Kenny realized that Uri was also "a slave to something."
In Uri's case, he lived to "build a paradise in the twilight of a few human beings. Hence the benevolence.
I think Kenny was freed from being a "slave to power" when he gave the injection to Levi.
In that last moment, Kenny was able to see a view where he was not a "slave to something".
It may not have been what Uri saw either, but I think it was the view Kenny had always wanted to see.
And I think it was very meaningful that Levi heard this words from Kenny.

I think it's really touching how Kenny wanted that power for himself, but it wasn't really the power and the influence of that power that he wanted. All he knew in his life was violence, he saw it as his nature and something intrinsic. What he really wanted from that power was the ability to be compassionate and see the world the way Uri saw it. "Could trash like me see the world the same way you saw it?". His connection with Uri really hit him to his core, even if he didn't change his outwards behavior through most of his life. Another core sentiment that is brought up in this episode is actually Uri's pondering. "What was it that made us friends? Was it violence?..." Uri seemed to think that the compassion he decided to show Kenny that day was what brought them together. Which isn't wrong. But, was it not violence that brought upon their meeting in the first place?
I also love how he first hears Uri's voice when Levi calls his name. It's just such a stellar episode.

What some people tend to look over when they watch AoT is the fact that aside from the existence of titans and their powers, this series touches on some pretty serious/sensitive real life issues (so far some of them were already mentioned, others will be mentioned in the final season)
What keeps the show interesting is the fact that the author managed to deliver the dialogues, and the characters' opinions and decisions in such a way that makes us viewers feel something, be it sympathy, anger, sadness, joy or excitement. Kudos to the voice actors as well.
I dare say that the biggest takeaway of this show would probably be that humans will never agree on one thing, like Erwin said, the bloodshed won't stop unless there's only one human or less left. All other conflicts will stem from the same fact that we will always agree to disagree. You can't please everyone.
Edit. This is my opinion after finishing s4 pt2, if you haven't watched s4 you may disagree with me, if you have watched it and you still disagree, well that just proves my point

Knowing about Ymir's curse, I'm actually wondering about Uri's age now? Both Frieda and Historia were 15 when they were supposed to inherit these powers so I can't imagine Uri was older than 20-25 either, which means he couldn't have been older than than 40 when he had to pass down the powers so why did he look so old?

I would say is quite the opposite, the reason why Bertholdt didnt fight the Beast Titan is because the Colossal is too strong, not weaker. the man is so much taller than any of the other shifters, he could just use his steam attack to keep you away from him, or to make you struggle and then stomp you to death, or literally throw himself over you.

    Beautiful Gems.
This one S3Ep10 gets one of the basequotes underlying the real story of aot started. (The things Kenny said will get essential to understand characters decisions)
The next one S3Ep11 is one that nobody talks about and no one really remembers at first, but its the one Isayama(the writer of the story) said he worked the most on.
So ur in mayb the most underrated duo EP of the show. Even if theres not much cinematic-action sequences with masterpiece soundtracks, the details isayama dropped in these ones make BIG influence on the whole Story.

This is one of my favourite episodes, my favourite that you've seen so far for sure. It's easily the most fascinating episode in the show. Despite him only lasting this arc, this episode made Kenny one of my favourite characters, my 3rd favourite to be exact. The first time I watched this episode I liked it, but it's grown on me so much over time, and I find myself thinking about this episode very often. I still feel like there's stuff I don't quite understand here, despite how much I've gathered from the episode.

"What would happen to someone [like Kenny] who obtained this power? Would they become compassionate too?" Well, consider who holds Uri's power now: You'll find your answer in Eren. (Edit: of course, it's different for Eren versus royals; for one thing, Eren doesn't have access to Uri's memories, at least not yet. But Kenny isn't royal either.)
