Shop Chair Using Welded CHAIN & SCRAPWOOD / Woodworking and Metal Fabrication

- #chair #shopstool #barstool In this video I create a one-of-a-kind industrial shop chair using Chain link and scrap wood. I welded the legs and backrest of the chair with my tig welder. I wanted to make sure the seat swiveled, as it is a necessity in my shop. To do this, I added a Large bolt with matching nut. For the seat, I took a "chaotic cutting board" style approach. I used Walnut, Ipe, White oak and Redwood. I love builds like this because I get to incorporate my metalworking and woodworking skills into once piece. The chair is now a centerpoint in my shop and will be used day in and day out. Let me know what you think!

Metal, wood, and art .. you are the second Jemmy diresta on youtube
Superb!
That came out awesome! Just stumbled onto your channel and I really love your work. And the corny dad jokes are Gold.
Super chill background music, really well paced video too. I think that stuff is super important.
You’re such a manly dude, I’d done some basic stone and wood and needle (stitching) work but I have not worked with metal. I hope to develop those skill and be manly as well.
😂😂😂
Hey BM, great to see the entire process of construction. Fantastic ideas. Well done you!
I love watching you work!
oh man your welding skills are pretty incredible!! i’ve been following this project along on instagram i’m so happy to finally see the process. great job Blake 👏💜
Thank you Jade! Welding really isn't that hard once you get the hang of it. Glad you are following along the process on insta too! I appreciate it!
Idk why but this is my favorite of your projects, I love your other stuff too but I idk I just really like this rugged look for a shop chair it's perfect and I want to make one now!!
Loved the end result
Great job! Those chain stools are super comfy!
Sr. Your art is awesome , amazing!!! Thx to these vids I’m retaining and learning a lil bit lil by little , thank you !!!
That is gorgeous!!!
Your imagination has no boundaries. This chair is beautiful. a couple of bar stoo;ls in the same design vein would be cool.
Love The Chair!!!
Loved the artistry of this project. I want a cutting board like your chair seat, so yes, inspiration proves contagious again!
Can't stop watching your videos. Love your work and very entertaining to watch!
I was so confused for a second with the banana trick lol
Super
Hey BM, me and my 7 year old son love your videos, your his favourite maker. Could you give my boy (Mahdi) a quick shout out. Keep up the good work from London, England!
Salut chapeau bas 🙏🎓🥇🎖️🏅🏆💡🛏️ un tonneau 🍺🍼😉🥰🇨🇵👍
I think you should also try in bodybuilding.. you have a great physics 👍
Magnificent!
I love that you used a huge bolt to make it spin. The wood work 🪵 and welding are awesome!
Thanks 👍
(Edit: @12:11 Wait…was that a battery powered banana? Sweet 👌)
Hello! What did you put on the wood before the hand planer? Never seen that before…
Btw I love your work and your workshop is the stuff of dreams. And thank you for responding to every comment (even if you don’t get to mine), just the attempt is appreciated because most content creators don’t even try. Thank you!
An absolutely stunning piece of functional art thanks for the video🏴
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Willie!
Like the stool. Very cool for you and the. Shop.
Thank you Adrienne!
I love the spinning camera trick hahaha. Very creative
haha Thank you! its very high tech
WW2 Battlefield miniature inside resin would be really cool turned into a coffee table.
Chains look so cool welded. Nice job, I’d love to have one!
Thanks Mason! Ive had the welded chain idea for a while now and I was pumped to finally do it!
Absolutely stunning, love it, that is a good looking chair 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
Impressive as hell
Thanks Dave!
That’s awesome, great idea and great execution
Thank you!
awesome job as always, cool how you used the old stool to make the new one these are awesome during lockdown in Aotearoa aka New Zealand.
Thanks Adrian! It was a fun build
I have got a question: Why does not this channel have at least 500k subscribers? I mean: your work is awesome, you deserve that amount of subscribers!
haha I appreciate it. I don't think this channel will be getting there anytime soon though! Its a long haul! Thanks Chris
Awesome chair and great video. Very well done.
Thanks so much!
Amazing
That’s pretty metal
Just caught your channel matey, and what an amazing artist you are. Love the videos
Stunning work mate
Thank you! appreciate it!
I also really love the raw look to this. You didn’t bother painting the chains you just kinda sanded them with a steel thingy I think that’s what it’s called 😂😂 and the wood isn’t some super fancy wood it’s just some generic wood made together with other wood to give it a really unique design. Really love this build. Cant wait til the next video!!
yeah it can be called a steel thingy lol. thanks for sticking it out on the long haul with me!

Nice video 👍
Beautiful work ,I do alot of re-purposing furniture etc. And I will be attempting this with the chain ,love the end result .......curious on how many hours roughly you had start to finish on the welding the chain ....the detail you put into your work/art is very appreciated
Not sure how comfortable that backrest is, but if it's going to hurt your back, maybe try 2 or 3 inserts of curved wood between each chain crossmember, flat piece of steel backed, screwed to the wood and tacked into place? Check for fitment then finish the welds? Just an idea. 👍 Great chair and great job!
That is a good idea... I modeled it off of my existing chair with the same kind of backrest. With that being said, (full disclosure) this isn't the most comfortable seat in the world. But she sure is pretty!
Mate there has to be a market for them stools .
Loved the scrap wood look . And swivel and hight adjustment ,smart one . Cheers . :)
Thanks Doug! I was originally looking for different swiveling devices online, but then walked by the hardware section at my local shop and saw this massive bolt and nut and thought it would be perfect. Works great.... Just cant spin too far or it will unthread itself haha
This is beautiful. I hope you don't mind if I steel (pun intended) this design. I have the same garbage stool in my garage and I've been looking for an upgrade to it.
👍👍👍👍
Very unique style. Absolutely gorgeous. You're damn talented dude
Thank you! I just have a lot of time on my hands
@@BMSculptures you also have a lot of brain to think about something unique.. 🤭😂
Estaba a punto de suscribirme, cuando vi que no contestaria comentarios en ESPAÑOL . . .
big fan 🙏🏼 and though i trust your workmanship using chains for a upright purpose still makes me uneasy.. is that metal even semipermeable? i.e., the aluminium used normally actually allows the little bend that comes over time through regular usage.. how is this holding up 2years later?
Great design, what size chain are you using? TIA.
I bought two old iron tracker seats. I've been wanting to make a stool. I was going to use a wooden stool but now I think I'm going to do the same as you for the legs then weld the tractor seat to the top. I'm a nocie welder. But hey? Got learn some how? Trail and error? Thank you!
The back rest looks uncomfortable xD but everything else looks wicked
Nice chair. Hear’s a tip for next chair. To make really good circles! Still use your template, take some thin sheet metal. Attach to the inside or the outside, dealers choice. Above the height of the chain of the circle about 1-2 inches. Different sizes of neodymium magnet are also helpful, for shaping. This gives you the option of controlling the aesthetic of the chain. Example, when the chains just elongated down, it looks fine. Making adjustments, you can twist the chain making a better pattern. Also it makes the chair more heavy and stronger. Also there are a lot of different types of chain. There’s one, that as it gets longer the rings get smaller. Works well for sculptor. Anyway, really liking your content.
wow great tips! Thanks Allen
*here
Very cool!
Just found your channel!
Getting into welding myself. Did you put any finish on the metal? I've heard the weld will rust different than the base metal?
Hi there! I love your content. I just have a question, why do you hand plane the wood if you then put it through the planner? I can understand doing one so that it isn’t wonky when you put it through the planer but would love to hear your thoughts. Many many thanks!
Amazing project! Well done! And I love the humor. The banana got me 😆
hahaha Thank you!
Im just bought my
First welder
I was wondering how you treat the welds without painting, so that f you want a plain metal look, how do you stop from rusting / shiny post grind against the mil scale.
Ty
Do you think you can do that and make a Bike Frame that won't break like other Chain Bike Frames have?
Dude!
That chair is friggin awesome!!!
I have got to make me one of those.
It's not going to be tigged tho, lol.
It will be flux cored
You have no idea how much I could have used a Mig for this. I currently only have a TIG setup... I would have cut my time in half with a MIG or Flux
@@BMSculptures I remember you saying that about the big feathers too,lol
Nicely done, I love the chain work and the wooden top...It was hard to tell from the video...but is the seat indented or flat? How comfortable is it to sit on for any length of time?
The seat is flat... Im not going to lie, if I were to sit here for hours I would probably choose a different chair.
@@BMSculptures Good incentive to keep moving. lol
was it preference why you chose tig to weld the chains, and seat of your project? curiosity compels me to ask?
This is why you don't make 4 legged stools, always 3 legs because they are always stable, just like a camera tripod. Great work though
Hey Blake, I noticed in one of your recent videos you had a hand saw below your sign. It had a cowboy and some cows. Did you make that? If so do you have a video of the process of that?
Yup... I have that video! check it out!
OH not that NUT!!!
Tells us to eat fast food 3-5 times a week but has 20 inches biceps 🤣🤣🤣. He looks like a gym trainer.
lol, do you ever keep count with how often you say perfect/perfectly? oh, btw...i want one!
I prefer to not count the perfect pronunciations of personal perfect words in the video... Do I say it a lot?
Half an inch of weld has about 2000 pounds of tensile strength, meaning, the tack welds were quite enough.
That is really good to know. Thanks!
So let’s see… wood, metal, resin! Is there any medium you haven’t mastered???🤔🤔🤔
Any BDSM themed bedroom will crave for this :D
hahaha
what model is your planer and where did you get it
Dewalt 12" planer. I think I got it online, probably amazon truth be told.
hahaha youre such a goob xD
Love your banana.
What bout using mig?
That would have been much easier. I don't have MIG.
Надо предупреждать когда начинаешь варить,нахватался зайцев (
Hello. I am a robot. I’m calling to let you know about your vehicles extended warranty... wait. Wrong video! This video is amazing though! Love the technique you used to line the chains up to the perfect shape absolutely genius!! I showed my wife your cinder block outdoor furniture and she absolutely loved it and said it was reallllly cool. Cant wait to try it out one day! Do you have an Instagram Blake I’d love to follow it if you do!
His Instagram page is in the description...
hahahaha this robot really speaks well. Yes I am on instagram at BMsculptures!
A banana really
what banana
do you still respond to every comment
Mr. McFarland?
I sure don’t, it’s overwhelming to now. But I try!
@@BMSculptures hahaha i appreciate your efforts! Keep up the Great Work man! just finished your new eagle video!
where's all the sick puns and jokes in the more recent videos :((((((
i ve been watching your videos and in some the sound go out , why is that..
.
Do you need a second person? I’d love to learn from you.
Some parts of this video suddenly go mute....
Just google Stodoys and make some dust.
nice!
@@BMSculptures Yes it is nice 👍
@@BMSculptures 👍👍
A banana????
I want your banana machine 😂😂
If u want this perfect circle Machine just keep eating McDonald’s and you’ll have a perfect circle to
😂😂
That cut out design actually looked like lips not a mouthstash🤣🤣💋, it looked like the stool would be kissing your butt😂😂
Can you make a chair like this for me? It would be a time-out chair for my son. Hand cuffs and shackles should fit on that chain link. He has been very bad lately. The chair would prevent him from raping the neighbors cat again.
half the vid is muted for me :(
It's "banana for scale", not "banana for tool" 😂
what banana?
Worst backrest I have ever seen👅
