Thank you all the amazing info in the comments. I had no clue reaction videos would introduce me to so many awesome fans of these groups My next Band-Maid reaction video is up! Freedom: ua-cam.com/video/c-NyteqKLng/v-deo.html
You have no idea what journey you are about to embark down this Pigeon 🕊 Hole 🕳 The Band-Maidiacs or Maidiacs will help you with whatever information you will need.
This could be considered the introduction to BAND MAID song. You were impressed with their complexity (which is great!) the other songs are just as good! PLAY - BLOOMING - REAL EXISTENCE - AFTER LIFE - ABOUT US (a song for us the fans!) - PLAY - BLOOMING - DICE - GIOVANNI (INSTRUMENTAL VERSION) - DON"T YOU TELL ME (Live version has a great Bass/Guitar solo) are all suggestions - none are bad. You keep listening and you will become a MAIDIAC like the rest of us!
Now go see sokoninaru if you like incredible composition, tightness and blow away bass and drums. Two guys and a really hot female bassist. (accurate thumb tapping is her party piece) the lead guitarist is also a young god. They have several good newish official music videos.ua-cam.com/video/Ch3OWNEdkbE/v-deo.html
A few months ago I went to Japan, and after seeing a concert there I decided on an impulse to go to a Band-Maid concert earlier this week. What I didn’t expect was to come out of the concert as a fan. Can’t stop thinking about it.
From time to time you meet reactors who really know how to listen... who analyze at different levels and not just launch set phrases... And most of those types of reactors recognize and value the musical, interpretative and compositional mastery of Band Maid ... Thank you very much for the reaction- I suggest the Play song, live!!
They are my favorite band for sure. Do I mind you rewinding and for me hearing that solo section of the 1000nt time? Not at all, so it is great that you took the video back after making comments. I look forward to your next Band Maid reaction.
Based on this reaction, I really look forward to more Band-Maid reactions from you. You are to be highly praised for rewinding back after commenting and pausing, (no Band-Maid fan will ever complain about that, lol) actually making efforts to listen to what is being played instead of simply talking over cool bits. It's SUPER frustrating to watch a reactor saying things like: "the bass player is amazing" while actually talking over an awesome little riff, and missing it! Auuugh!
Us Maidiacs have a saying for when Kanami is soloing “Shut up, Kanami is speaking” 😂. In truth, all five of these incredible musicians are speaking loud and clear with their talent via interesting compositions, arrangements, instrumentation, playing and performance at all times in everything they do - they are a very special collection of musicians and people and we are all very lucky to be alive during the era of Band Maid. To this old Beatles, Zeppelin, Yes, Floyd, and Rush fan, this is my favorite band on planet earth 🌍 today. Welcome to the Pigeon hole (we’ll explain later)!! Next - “Manners and Black Hole” - official live video Then dozens more great tracks and a catalog of 100+ killer tracks.
@@bobespirit2112 ua-cam.com/video/MXplt6KzZlc/v-deo.html from the movie "Slap Shot" I thought this what the appropriate sentiment of what you were relaying.
It is kind of impossible to find a good place to talk, because Band-Maid put so much details into their music that you will always miss some cool stuff. I love your style, so much respect to the music and artists. It is a rarity among the reactors on UA-cam. The previous song that bled into this song is called Play, and it is also on their official channel. It is a great next song to react to, a lot of fun vibe there too.
Hello there, enjoyed the reaction! I always like to let reactors know that this was the 22nd song of a 23 song set and been on stage nearly two hours. The gather around the drummer to make faces at her to try and get her to laugh. If you want instrumentation in a live setting, you should check out their instrumental "Onset (Live)".
@@DrumRollTonyReacts they're coming to the states in late October. Depending on where you are or your willingness to travel you can probably get tickets. Mostly through the evil Live Nation official resale though, since most of the shows are sold out.
I really like how you pay attention to the music, point out "the good stuff" that's happening , rewind it copule of times so even a laymen can understand and hear without going deeper into theory. I'm a BM fan but I'd listen to any review/reaction you put out in hope I hear or learn something new. Subscrbed.
I found Band-Maid four years ago and every time I listen to their music, my whole being is filled with happiness. They are great musicians, who write great music, and I think they are the best progressive hard rock band of all time, but what they bring me is joy. Band-Maid has enriched my life, and I will be forever thankful to these incredibly talented but also very humble goddesses.
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。You are receiving tons of information about B-M who are one of best rock bands in Japan. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". I believe the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Talking about hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Band Maid Info Dump Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku contacted her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her. Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. Now we have the "Core" members. I'm not too sure about the part but if I am wrong other Maidiacs will correct me in the comments. The 4 members worked out some songs and a setlist and from my understanding, they had actually performed 2 or 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. I may be wrong on that so don't take that as canon. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. (I'm not sure about this part as I can't find the comment I read over on Reddit) She had been a member of a group with 8 other people and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool Clothes", and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until I believe it was 2 days before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which only charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album hadn't even charted, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their UA-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.
Something that you will discover about Band Maid as you go along is that they are a very versatile rock band. They cover just about every genre of rock from ballads to hard rock bordering on metal, they can be groovy, bluesy and jazzy or just plain crazy, there is something for every taste and it's one of the things that makes them so listenable. Oh and then they may throw acoustic versions of their songs at you that bring you to tears.
Akane, happiest drummer in the world. She is so solid with her rhythm, its crazy. No lie, I admit I like her a lot for being cute, infectiously happy, and a drummer. Lite case of fanboying from the other side of the world. lol
Fellow Seattle area resident and Band-Maid fan here. This is one of the best first reactions to Band-Maid I've seen out of literally hundreds. Subbed and looking forward to more. You're right. Band-Maid *IS* fun!
@@powbobs Yeah and it's almost killing me that I already had travel booked out of the country when they announced the tour. Flight leaving October 12th. Sooooo close and yet so far.
Interviewer: Where did you get the idea to use maid outfits? “I used to work in a maid café! I would wear cute uniforms every day and entertain our customers, who we call masters and princesses. At the same time I was really into metal and rock music, and I thought how different the two worlds were. Here I am at work, singing super cute songs to a milkshake - it’s how we make them extra tasty - but on the way home I have my headphones in, blasting Maximum The Hormone. I thought that it would be cool to combine cute uniforms with cool music, so I set about recruiting the members of Band-Maid.” Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume? “Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!” Interviewer: Why should people listen to Band-Maid? “We’re not a pop idol group! Don’t judge us on how we look. We want to blow you away with our heavy rock sound.” Interviewer: For those who don’t know about Band-Maid, what are you about? MIKU: “Band-Maid’s concept is about creating contrast - how we look and how we sound are worlds apart. One is cute and submissive in nature, the other is wild, powerful and dominant. I thought that idea was interesting. Basically, we want to defy expectations.”
"You want to be in the audience" - exactly what I was thinking when I discovered the band in 2018 and six months later, I was in the audience in Bochum, Germany ... and it was even better than expected.
Always enjoyable watching someone discover THE best Rock band on Earth. Especially when they appreciate the musicianship displayed by all the band members. Kanami's songwriting and compositional skills, Miku's lyrics, all band members' instrument playing levels and everyone's incredible stage presence. I've been seeing Rock bands live since the mid 70's and no-one (sorry Queen, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Floyd but it was a while ago) impresses me more than Band-Maid.
7:27 "There's a lot of cool stuff going on at the same time." You have no idea. Just wait until you get to their newest stuff. And also a lot of their older stuff. Plus, all the inbetween stuff. OK, so all of it! Buckle up and enjoy the ride. It's wild!
I just started listening to them last week. I heard the song 'Thrill' a year ago and I thought it was good. But then now that I dig into their music it's so much better than I ever imagined. I recommend 'Play' it's such a fun song. They have so many great songs.
Thanks, I did like it a lot and so will all the Maidiacs around the world. All your comments were spot on from the get go- nothing had to be explained to you. As a musician you understood everything that was happening in front of you. Welcome to the beautiful world of Band Maid music. You're going to have such fun with this band, the charactors of it's members and their genre of music- groovy to metal with a hint of jazz, electric and acoustic- a fusion of rock styles. The drummer- Akane, does'nt particularly like to do drum solos but the song Freedom includes one- she and I use the same sticks- Wincent 5A, not as heavy as the usual Vic Firth rock sticks, but for me a better feal. Great reaction- more please- Official Live MV's- Real Existance, Play, Freedom. MV's- Manners, Warning.
I have seen Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Led Zep , Kiss ,Deep Purple, Nightwish and finally i will get a chance to see Band-Maid twice !! These young ladies are one of the best bands around =)
Akane is not a drummer! She is a virtuoso percussionist who chooses to PLAY the drums! Teamed up with MISA! the Barefoot Bass Assassin they would have to be the premier hard rock rhythm section in rock currently. Good reaction, nice mix of comment and video and pertinent rewinds and you know wtf you're talking about. Subscribed! Cheers and thanks from Australia!
Great reaction. I became a Maidiac a couple years ago. Looking forward to seeing them in Houston and NYC this fall. They are a hard rock band with elements of metal, grunge, pop. Tracks like the instrumental Onset are classical in scope. The music book for their latest album is intricate. So much going on in layers. The more I listen the more I hear. I subscribed to you in the hope to enjoy your journey of exploration. There is an edginess in the live videos that speak to the exciting audience participation so necessary in music. These girls brought this 72 year old musician back to music. You may enjoy the entry level tracks live, Freedom, Onset, Dice. Everyone loves the drum solo in Freedom but listen carefully at the end as the drums hand off to the guitar. Call and return within the band meanwhile the bass providing the heartbeat. As someone mentioned these girls are the real thing. Oh the girls crowding around the drum…it is apparently a game they play making funny faces at the drummer to trying to crack her up and get her off the beat. It’s all fun. This is a very generous group, plenty of videos on their web site. Rich clues for musicians. Best wishes. Enjoy.
Subscribed. The ladies of Band Maid are too talented and hard-working to have reactors gloss over their songs on a surface level. There’s too much technical brilliance packed into most of their songs to be taken in all at once without stopping and re-listening to big sections of the music. So, you gave them the attention they deserve, and gave us some good insights into the music we love so much. Led Zeppelin, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Band Maid. That’s my favorite 5, in no particular order. So Band Maid is in epic company in my eyes! Live videos to check out: “Freedom” (has a drum solo), “Manners/Black Hole”, “Onset”, “No God”, and “Choose Me”. Music videos: “Blooming”, “Rinne”, “Warning”, “Different” and “Dice”.
Great to see a fellow enjoyer of the rhythm section. I'm a percussionist and recently started learning bass, so rhythm is in my bones. And I gotta say, Band-Maid has one of the best rhythm sections in the world. I just discovered them last year and they quickly became my favorite band. Can't wait to see them live in Dallas this October!
@@Vampiresavior Ohh got yeah. That is a standard thing to do with musicians. I have played that game many many times but never knew that name for it. Awesome!
This band is off-the-chart incredible. After hearing their MV Thrill, I became a total MAIDIAC. I have commented on other B-M reactions of yours and watched as you became a MAIDIAC as well. For those seeing this video for the first time and liking what you hear, folks this is just the tip of the Band-Maid iceberg. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy this band until your last breath! Love your reactions Tony! Hope you will react to Thrill one day. It's a banger and the song that addicted me to these mega-maids!
Congratulations on finding Band Maid ! My favourite band !! There is always plenty going on in a Band Maid song, it is what sets them apart from other bands. A natural progression for you now would be to react to 'Freedom' the official live from the same concert. Enjoy !!
i love it when people can apreciate band-maid despite not knowing what they're saying,, i mean come on,not evrything is about western world and their english speaking song, there is so much great music out there, and i meet so many people despise band-maid just because they're not singing with their langguage.. love your reaction man, cant wait for another band-maid reaction..
This band is legit. On of my favorite bands to come along in a couple decades. Will be traveling to see them twice this Fall. Also check out the Mexican band, The Warning. Girls rock!
Tony, thank you for your comments and reaction to what a growing number of us calling a new up and coming hard rock band. Thank goodness too - after everything that has been happening in the world we needed a lift and a smile. Band-Maid is it.
I've been a fan of hard rock since the 1970s, but at the end of U2 I lost interest in music. I found BAND-MAID in COVIT-19's self-restraint life and regained my interest in music. The feeling of waiting for their new song has become the energy of life. The world is chaotic now. Music that enriches people's hearts and brings peace is now needed. I am impressed not only with their music, but also with their way of life.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Band Maid is much more than music. It's also about friendship, believing in yourself and following your dreams. Their formation story alone is the stuff of legend. I'll have the privilege of seeing them live in October.
More recently the band has been putting out more of their instrumental stuff or it has been getting more play anyway. You will probably want to check that out being into that. I am sure everyone has already recommended "Onset". Love how it stopped you cold for a second, many of their songs do that to me at some point. Got into Band Maid about 5 years ago with some other Japanese bands. It has been a wonderful ride so for. I am glad that they are getting a lot of love with people reviewing their music. Band Maid might actually achieve World Domination.
Welcome to the fandom! Best rock band in the world right now! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Real Existence (live)
welcome to my favorite band in the world. :) I have a question though, how did you come to Band-Maid? usually someone recommends it to someone, and they try it out, but nothing was mentioned, so I was curious. loved the analysis by the way.
Great first reaction, Tony! I think you'll find that it's very common if not the norm that Band-Maid tends to attract instrumentalists. I would not be surprised if 90% of its audience plays music. So, overlooking the vocalist(s), I consider that par for the course, and I've done that myself so many times.
These ladies sure can put the 'stank' on their instruments! You're right, footage from this particular concert has the guitars a little to low in the mix. Shame really, when you look at some earlier live stuff it sounds perfect. Lets hope the next live release doesn't have this issue.
Welcome to the deeeep rabbit hole that is the Band-Maid catalog. My personal favorite is "Dice". Lots of Misa, Misa, Misa (you have to say it three times). I would suggest just clearing out everything you had planned on reacting to because you are about to go on an amazing journey. Enjoy.
I just want to warn you that you have found a gateway in becoming a Maidiac. Be vewy careful or you'll find yourself wanting to react to their 100 plus songs.
🔥BAND-MAID🔥 is THE sh*t. These ladies have it down. When I say it, I mean songwriting, musicianship, vocals and charisma. Everything about them is a 97 on a 10 pt scale. Nothing else quite like them. I❤💙MAIDs💕
Impressive reaction. You very quickly picked up on a lot of what makes Band-Maid great. I'll go out on a limb and say I'd like to see what you think of their song "Corallium". It's their latest release so it shows where they are now. I'd love to hear what you make of it.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts There is no Corallium video, but the audio with an interesting (for Band-Maid fans) static image can be found on their channel. It is well worth the listen and reaction.
Great suggestion! I suggested Play (because it is a natural next reaction), but Corallium is really peak Band-Maid. My favorite song of Band-Maid at the moment.
Just so you know...they released a single around December that includes 2 other songs, (they were commissioned to do an anime song.) This year 2022 they will tour again and they have already announced an EP.
Their earliest name was actually stylized as BAND-MAID®, which is a direct parody of BAND-AID® They later dropped the ® mark in 2016, presumably to be a little more serious
To keep things short because others said plenty: Rinne (music video) - metal song Blooming (music video) - quite fast bpm pop rock Secret My Lips (live) / Secret Maiko Lips (music video) - double header - 1st one is original song, 2nd one is remixed with traditional Japanese instruments Gion-Cho (music video) - song about Geisha in Kyoto, mixed in traditional instruments Freedom (live) - drum solo Onset (live) - instrumental only (pee break song for singer) Daydreaming (music video) - slow ballad There's a ton more, but those can get you started.
Welcome to the Maidiacs, Tony! Believe it or not, that's just the tip of the huge iceberg of musical greatness from this incredible group of ladies and the more you hear from them, the more you'll love 'em! Some suggestions: Freedom is a MUST for your next BM reaction, because of the AWESOME drum solo by Akane! Others: Play, Onset (instrumental), Real Existence, Turn Me On, Moratorium, Don't You Tell Me, Puzzle - all Live, because that's when they really shine. Thanks! 🤘🤩🤘
I really enjoy your style of reacting.. going back and highlighting key parts is awesome, IMO.. they'll be in concert at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle on Oct. 12, 2022.. show sold out in minutes, but you might get lucky.. for songs that highlight the drummer Akane, I would suggest 'Freedom' Live, 'Blooming' MV and 'Warning' MV.. new sub here...
They are coming here?? Um wow I am going to have to see if I have any strings to pull in the city. Sheeeesh! Thanks for letting me know they are coming
Oh man, the Madiac community will be so happy having another musician react to Band-Maid. You seem to have a lot of insight to contribute. I'm subscribing to watch you hopefully continue your Band-Maid journey. Up next should probably be "Freedom" live from this same concert, available on their YT channel. PO!!!
Yes, the rhythm section in this band is outstanding. MISA on bass, Akane on drums, Miku Kobato on rhythm guitar. Everybody is talking about pigeons; Miku Kobato is her stage name; in Japanese script it is 小鳩 ミク 小 | small 鳩 | pigeon
So, this is BAND-MAID dialed in to about a 6 or 7. I don't know if you wanna jump into the deep end but their latest album "Unseen World" is VERY different and much more experimental in many ways. There's a few songs in there where they crank it up to 11 and you see what they can really do.
They publish beautifully produced full score books of recent music. Kanami the lead and main composer starts with stave paper and then passes it to akane the drummer who also scores her part. Then gradually they put it together. Three of them are classically trained to the highest level. Some of their music is outrageously complex others more bluesy but still full of incredible ideas. Try the manners /Black hole double header.
I freakin' LOVE watching people discover Band-Maid. Stop apologizing for paying less attention to the vocals--"vocal coaches" are MUCH more common in the reaction community than instrumentalists, it's refreshing to hear the focus on the latter. Even though this was your first Band-Maid experience, but I also know that by now you've recorded several more (I've already watched most, and will get to all eventually). I think that by now you're ready to venture into the past, to their first viral video: Thrill (there's a very recent live version as well, but I'm specifically recommending the older MV, so you can have a look at from whence they've come). I can make a BUNCH of other recommendations, too (not all of them Band-Maid ;) but I'll leave it at that for now.
Really great reaction and points all right on. It's mother's day or I think you'd have 10 times the views on this - there are a lot of us maidiacs out there. This is that rare band that is both a musician's favorite (because their songs tend to be very complex, layered, dense but somehow not too much) but FUN and catchy at the same time. I've been totally addicted for 3 years, and I too have a music educator past, and used to be a decent hard bop trumpter and prog-lover (still love hard bop and prog the most....except for Band-Maid.) If you keep going down this path, you'll not just be heavily supported by the fans, but you'll just have a ton of fun. This band is 11 out of 10 on the fun factor list and yes - they all have chops. Their most impressive qualities however, are not even their formidable chops - their songwriting and arranging are just crazy off the hook good. The lead guitarist is a songwriting genius (think of McCartney mixed with prog and some fun pop punk or something crazy like that). I'd just read the lyrics beforehand or after - agree with you that you need to to focus on the band members. Think of Saiki (lead vocals) as another instrument. You'll not find any bad songs, and you'll need to hear many of them before you get the feel, because they are all over the place with genre. More hard rock than anything, but definitely genre defying, from proggy hard rock, power ballads, speed metally hard rock, jazz, you name it.) Another one I think you'd appreciate as an example of their songwriting is the Blooming MV, but you can choose one at random and it'll be really good to phenomenal. Again, very insightful reaction - appreciate it.

Vocals are great in Daydreaming, Kanami solo, you can check Unfair Game or Anemone, very bluesy. Drummer solo check Freedom. Overall performance, Puzzle. Hard rock, Take me Higher. My favourites are Matchless Gum and Unfair Game, B sides of Yolo single. I also live Honkai, Hibana. Recently, I went back to Clang. It’s always with Band Maid. After new album, Unseen world I went back to Freezer and Awkward. For cool production and fast tempo you may check Rinne. And many more.
Welcome aboard, Tony. You are embarking on (along with many others - 140 million YT views!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (118 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World” and new single drops), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! If you like instrumentalists, you HAVE to check out "Onset". It is the best rock instrumental I have heard in almost 60 years and their efforts are flawless. Kanami, the lead guitarist, is also the composer of virtually all of their music after their second album and the rythym guitarist, Miku, is the lyricist. She is also the band's founder and alpha dog. Misa is a bassist that ranks up there with the best, like Asa from Wagakki Band and Boh from the Kami Band. Akane is an amazing drummer, and after seeing them play live in Tokyo, Jimmy Page went backstage to meet Akane and called her the reincarnation of John Bonham. Saiki, the lead vocalist, has one of the finest rock voices in the world and can handle the crowd like a master. You have to check out all their official live music videos. I can't wait until I see them in NYC on October 28th on their American Tour.
Great reaction! I highly suggest giving Onset by Band Maid a try. It is one of their instrumentals and really shows off the skills that they have on their instruments. Another great one to listen to would be their MV Blooming.
I have arrived a little late to this reaction but it has made me a subscriber. You already have way too many comments for me to read (not surprising given the enthusiasm of Band-Maid fans of which I am definitely one) so I have no idea how much background you have about the band. I have created a short biography of the band that I hope you find helpful. I will be seeing them in Dallas on October 21. Band-Maid started from the brain of Miku Kobato in early 2013. She had been in an Idol trio that didn't catch on and like many Japanese girls trying to make it as an Idol singer, she worked in a Maid Cafe to make ends meet. When her trio fizzled out, she approached her label and suggested a band dressed like maids but who played hard rock. This was the same year Babymetal was blowing up in Japan (the nest year they would blow up worldwide). I have no doubt the Babymetal success helped with the label giving Miku the green light. At this time Miku was a pop singer that didn't play an instrument, yet wanted to form a rock band. Miku went on a talent search and found the UA-cam channel of a singer songwriter guitarist named Kanami Tono. Miku was very impressed with Kanami and pitched the idea, maid outfits and all. Since Kanami preferred writing songs and playing guitar much more than singing, she agreed to join and even liked the maid outfit idea. Kanami also suggested they add a drummer named Akane Hirose, who Kanami had worked with before. Akane wasn't thrilled with maid outfits and had no desire to join an all girl group, but she respected Kanami a great deal so said yes. Akane had gone to school with a bass player named Misa and suggested her to Miku. Misa, however, didn't like the maid outfit part at all. After thinking about it for a day, she also said yes. Miku had her band. The label supplied a few songs and the band started playing. Miku discovered a big problem. She realized that she simply didn't have the voice to front a rock band with the caliber of musicians surrounding her. To her credit, Miku started looking for a lead singer. While at her Label's offices, she heard someone singing and was liked what she heard. The voice belonged to Saiki Atsumi who was a dancer and backup singer. Miku told her about the band (leaving out the maid outfit part) and asked Saiki to audition for the band. The audition went very well so the band invited her to join and told her about the maid outfits. Saiki disliked the maid outfit part more than Misa, but she really liked the band. She said yes. Band-Maid released their first album, cleverly titled Maid in Japan, on January 8, 2014. All the music and lyrics of the 8 song, 30 minute album were written by others. The mini album failed to chart at all in Japan. Their second album called New Beginning (9 songs and 33 minutes) released November 18, 2015 only reached #64 on the Japanese Oricon charts. Again all the music and lyrics were written by others. Two good things came out of that album though. The first was the music video for Thrill, the first song on the album. The music video was released the year prior to no fanfare at all. Band-Maid's small label was going to end the band and make Miku and Saiki a singing, dancing pop duo because New Beginning was not selling. Then suddenly western audiences discovered the music video of Thrill and Band-Maid exploded outside of Japan. The Thrill music video now has over 17 million views. Second, a sub-label of the giant Nippon Crown came calling and signed Band-Maid. Now with a new and bigger label, Band-Maid released Brand New Maid (8 songs, 31 minutes) on May 18, 2016. In addition a song by Kanami Tono was included on the album, with Miku and Saiki writing lyrics for the song and two others. The album reached #19 on the Oricon chart. Now Miku had a new problem, she didn't really know how to play guitar yet. On the albums, Kanami played her parts and in small concerts she just pretended (she was obviously just holding the guitar on the Thrill music video). In 2016, the new label was sending them on an overseas tour in front of crowds larger than they ever had in Japan. Lucky for Miku, she knew a very talented guitarist eager to teach her - Kanami Tono. Miku started finally to learn to play the guitar she had been holding. The 2016 tour was a success, especially in Europe. They also had a show in Seattle, Washington. On July 17, 2017, the album Just Bring It was released. With 13 songs it was by far the longest album (50 minutes). I also consider it the first true Band-Maid album. Kanami wrote 9 of the 13 songs and the lyrics on 11 songs were written by Miku and Saiki, primarily Miku. The album reached #16 on the Oricon charts. It also charted in the UK. On February 14, 2018, the band released World Domination (14 songs, 54 minutes). All the lyrics were written by Miku (except one cowritten by Saiki) and all songs were written by Kanami (3 she cowrote with non-band members). This album reached #9 in Japan and charted worldwide. It is my second favorite Band-Maid album. In 2019, Band-Maid returned to the United States but only four shows. On December 4, 2019, they released Conqueror (15 songs, 55 minutes). While they were working on Conqueror, they were contacted by Tony Visconti because he had heard them and wanted to produce a Band-Maid song. Kanami sent him one of her songs and assumed that he would changes. He did not. Tom Kenney wrote the lyrics and Miku and Saiki flew to New York to record the vocals. The song, The Dragon Cries, is the 11th track on the album. They were able to video a live concert in February 2020, before the pandemic shut things down. Videos from that performance have become very popular on UA-cam. Sometime in 2020, Band-Maid changed labels, going from a sub-label of Nippon Crown to a Pony Canyon, a major label, On January 13, 2021, they released Unseen World (12 songs, 45 minutes). All the songs were written by Kanami and all lyrics by Miku. Unseen World is my favorite Band-Maid album and in my top 10 of last year. Kanami wrote the song Manners as a tribute to western classic rock. It is my favorite on the album and possibly one of my favorite songs of the last 20 years.
THANK YOU because I was looking for this exact information. Wild to think how much they evolved once they wrote their material. The story line is so cool. I really hope to see them sometime!
@@DrumRollTonyReacts They are performing at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle on October 11, but it sold out within days. It looks like a small venue. I am seeing them at The House of Blues in Dallas which I think is about 1,000 standing and about 700 seats in a three section balcony. It is also sold out. The resale tickets in my section of the balcony are currently going for $154 which is more than 3 times what I paid on the day tickets went on sale. I think Live Nation greatly underestimated their popularity in the US. Miku Kobato struck gold when she recruited Kanami Tono. I doubt she realized the caliber of guitarist and songwriter she had found. She couldn't have known that Kanami would then bring in Akane Hirose and Misa for drums and bass. Both Akane and Misa attended Tokyo School of Music Shibuya to become professional musicians. Although not a 4-year program it is still well respected. I know that Berklee actively recruits TSM students so they can continue their studies and earn a 4-year degree in Boston. The only band member to graduate from a 4-year university is Kanami where she studied both Economics and Business Management. Kanami is not the best guitarist in Japan, or even the best female guitarist in Japan. However, she is, without exaggeration, one of the best songwriters in the world right now. Band-Maid will be releasing an EP sometime this summer and I have no doubt it will be on the level of Unseen World.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts I knew someone would have the formation story for you. Long odds for this band to exist much less to be where it is today. Miku is either very luck or a good judge of people and talent.
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Badass Bass Assassin. Band-Maid are the best Hard Rock band in the world right now. You should check out the official Live versions of Play, Onset, Freedom, Manners/Black Hole, Real Existence, After Life, Warning and Choose Me just to get you started. Then you can react to the hard to find official Live links to Don't You Tell Me, Moratorium, Take Me Higher, Turn Me On and Puzzle (both electric and acoustic versions) I'm sure one of the Band-Maidiacs or Maidiacs can help you with those links 🤙🏼
Really enjoying your reactions Tony just would you please either turn up the volume on the videos or turn down your microphone. Congrats IMHO you have just found the best all around rock band on the planet. Enjoy!
I have changed the audio mix since this video. This was recorded on the first night I did reaction vids (same as the Nightwish video). I discovered that the levels I was hearing in my headset in OBS was NOT the same level that was exported. Which is weird because mix everything with a GoXLR mixer that I use for Twitch and its amazing. I did end installing a different version of OBS just for reauction videos and its a better set of levels. Check out my latest Band-Maid video for the different level and let me know what you think. Thank you!
Really only way to take them in is to listen s song two or three times to get a feel for how it progresses. Then go back and listen to each instrument, mentally isolating them as best you can. The depth and complexity is mind numbing. If you ever get the chance to listen to the latest album (Unseen World) with the vocals removed that will REALLY blow you away. It was available with the TAB score book. So much is hidden under the vocals.

I suggest Onset (greasy riff prog instrumental), No God (pop punk), Rinne (metal), Real Existence (GNR), and Manners/Black Hole live (2 songs-70s Aerosmith followed by prog speed metal at 220 BPM). No cap, they really can play all of that.
Thank you all the amazing info in the comments. I had no clue reaction videos would introduce me to so many awesome fans of these groups

Haha, you made the "mistake" of reacting to a Band-Maid song, you're gonna get swarmed by fans super passionate about them 😅Great video mate!
Try listening to Sense that’s the song that introduced me to them
A few months ago I went to Japan, and after seeing a concert there I decided on an impulse to go to a Band-Maid concert earlier this week. What I didn’t expect was to come out of the concert as a fan. Can’t stop thinking about it.
When they were huddled around the drummer they were making faces at her to try get her to mess up.
From time to time you meet reactors who really know how to listen... who analyze at different levels and not just launch set phrases... And most of those types of reactors recognize and value the musical, interpretative and compositional mastery of Band Maid ... Thank you very much for the reaction- I suggest the Play song, live!!
Thank you for the nice comment!
They are my favorite band for sure. Do I mind you rewinding and for me hearing that solo section of the 1000nt time? Not at all, so it is great that you took the video back after making comments. I look forward to your next Band Maid reaction.
I am very happy to have been directed in the direction of this group
Yep, as Jack Black says "Be kind, rewind" :)
Auuugh!
I feel that!
+1
Next - “Manners and Black Hole” - official live video
Then dozens more great tracks and a catalog of 100+ killer tracks.

@@DartJedi 😂😂😂…maybe, but in a nicer way 😂. Great movie 🍿👍🏻✌🏼🤘🏼
I was wondering what I heard at the start. Thank you! I'm so glad I found out about this band.
Band-Maid is joy in the form of awesome rock
Hello there, enjoyed the reaction! I always like to let reactors know that this was the 22nd song of a 23 song set and been on stage nearly two hours. The gather around the drummer to make faces at her to try and get her to laugh. If you want instrumentation in a live setting, you should check out their instrumental "Onset (Live)".
Oh wow that is impressive. Thanks for letting me know how long they had already been on. I hope to see them someday
(Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Thank you for this information and commenting!
Band Maid Info Dump
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence.
Band-Maid is one of favourite bands to listen to daily

I thought that it would be cool to combine cute uniforms with cool music, so I set about recruiting the members of Band-Maid.”
Interviewer: Maid outfits aren’t exactly rock ‘n’ roll. What is your ultimate heavy metal costume?
“Now Band-Maid’s outfits are part of rock n roll, so we pick these!”
Interviewer: Why should people listen to Band-Maid?
“We’re not a pop idol group! Don’t judge us on how we look. We want to blow you away with our heavy rock sound.”
Interviewer: For those who don’t know about Band-Maid, what are you about?
MIKU: “Band-Maid’s concept is about creating contrast - how we look and how we sound are worlds apart. One is cute and submissive in nature, the other is wild, powerful and dominant. I thought that idea was interesting. Basically, we want to defy expectations.”
"You want to be in the audience" - exactly what I was thinking when I discovered the band in 2018 and six months later, I was in the audience in Bochum, Germany ... and it was even better than expected.
I need to employ your tactics

I've been seeing Rock bands live since the mid 70's and no-one (sorry Queen, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Floyd but it was a while ago) impresses me more than Band-Maid.
Band Maid is indeed infections, there is no cure, and you won't want one! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
I am excited to experience their catalog
This band seems very special. Excited to experience more of them
Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid.
I have seen Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Led Zep , Kiss ,Deep Purple, Nightwish and finally i will get a chance to see Band-Maid twice !! These young ladies are one of the best bands around =)
Ty for checking Band Maid . They will not disappoint .
Seeing them in Dallas ...
Enjoy.
What instrument is your main?

Bass and percussion go together very well 🤝
Welcome home! 🤗
You have an awesome journey ahead of you! 😊
FYI, they weren't "huddling" on the drum riser during the song. They were playing a game of hengao to try and get the drummer to screw up.
That sounds fun. Can you explain what the game is?
@@DrumRollTonyReacts They were making funny faces trying to make each other mess up.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts hengao means making funny faces.
Oh I thought they was asking *Akane* where they going to eat after the concert since *Akane* knows all the best places to eat. 🍌
@@Vampiresavior Ohh got yeah. That is a standard thing to do with musicians. I have played that game many many times but never knew that name for it. Awesome!
hell yeah! More Band-Maid!
Thank you for the nice comment
Boom! You NAILED it! "FUN" is what bands like BAND-MAID and The Warning are bringing back to hard rock!
Welcome to the world of Band Maid. These girls are the real deal.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Band-Maid Tony!
Thank you. I'm excited
Music is very powerful like that
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Band Maid is much more than music. It's also about friendship, believing in yourself and following your dreams. Their formation story alone is the stuff of legend. I'll have the privilege of seeing them live in October.
@@mr.bluebird6544 Where would I find the formation story?
More recently the band has been putting out more of their instrumental stuff or it has been getting more play anyway. You will probably want to check that out being into that. I am sure everyone has already recommended "Onset". Love how it stopped you cold for a second, many of their songs do that to me at some point. Got into Band Maid about 5 years ago with some other Japanese bands. It has been a wonderful ride so for. I am glad that they are getting a lot of love with people reviewing their music. Band Maid might actually achieve World Domination.
They are such a great talent
Welcome to the fandom! Best rock band in the world right now! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Real Existence (live)
welcome to my favorite band in the world. :)
I have a question though, how did you come to Band-Maid? usually someone recommends it to someone, and they try it out, but nothing was mentioned, so I was curious. loved the analysis by the way.
Great first reaction, Tony! I think you'll find that it's very common if not the norm that Band-Maid tends to attract instrumentalists. I would not be surprised if 90% of its audience plays music. So, overlooking the vocalist(s), I consider that par for the course, and I've done that myself so many times.
They're great musicians, but I'm always amazed at how engaging they are as performers.
Awesome reaction dude thanks man. Instant sub.
TY MUCH!
These ladies sure can put the 'stank' on their instruments! You're right, footage from this particular concert has the guitars a little to low in the mix. Shame really, when you look at some earlier live stuff it sounds perfect. Lets hope the next live release doesn't have this issue.
sheeeesh, that bass-girl has no rest! so as the other girls, though, but yeyy
You ain't seen nothing yet...haha
Welcome to the deeeep rabbit hole that is the Band-Maid catalog. My personal favorite is "Dice". Lots of Misa, Misa, Misa (you have to say it three times). I would suggest just clearing out everything you had planned on reacting to because you are about to go on an amazing journey. Enjoy.
Onset live for instrumental, freedom live for a killer drum solo.
Gonna see them live in October... highlight of my year maybe the decade for me
I just want to warn you that you have found a gateway in becoming a Maidiac. Be vewy careful or you'll find yourself wanting to react to their 100 plus songs.
HaHa! Yeah I think that might be true. I have come back to just this song many times a day. Avoiding other music of theirs on purpose for future vids!
Fantastic band and fantastic video, I'll wait for more of this,
🔥BAND-MAID🔥 is THE sh*t. These ladies have it down. When I say it, I mean songwriting, musicianship, vocals and charisma. Everything about them is a 97 on a 10 pt scale. Nothing else quite like them. I❤💙MAIDs💕
You know what Patron, i'm beginning to think you like BAND-MAID.😏
🥃🥃🥃🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Onset by Band-Maid has everything you need from an instrumental track 👍
You were right about that! Loved that track
Impressive reaction. You very quickly picked up on a lot of what makes Band-Maid great. I'll go out on a limb and say I'd like to see what you think of their song "Corallium". It's their latest release so it shows where they are now. I'd love to hear what you make of it.
I'm excited to check out that song
@@DrumRollTonyReacts There is no Corallium video, but the audio with an interesting (for Band-Maid fans) static image can be found on their channel. It is well worth the listen and reaction.
Great suggestion! I suggested Play (because it is a natural next reaction), but Corallium is really peak Band-Maid. My favorite song of Band-Maid at the moment.
Just so you know...they released a single around December that includes 2 other songs, (they were commissioned to do an anime song.)
This year 2022 they will tour again and they have already announced an EP.
Their earliest name was actually stylized as BAND-MAID®, which is a direct parody of BAND-AID®
They later dropped the ® mark in 2016, presumably to be a little more serious
Haha those outfits are hilarious.
To keep things short because others said plenty:
Rinne (music video) - metal song
Blooming (music video) - quite fast bpm pop rock
Secret My Lips (live) / Secret Maiko Lips (music video) - double header - 1st one is original song, 2nd one is remixed with traditional Japanese instruments
Gion-Cho (music video) - song about Geisha in Kyoto, mixed in traditional instruments
Freedom (live) - drum solo
Onset (live) - instrumental only (pee break song for singer)
Daydreaming (music video) - slow ballad
There's a ton more, but those can get you started.
Blooming, Puzzle, Unfair Game, Daydreaming, Anemone, the list is endless.
I'm a drummer 😎 and Band Maid is the real deal 🤘
Madiacs Rule #1: Don’t talk when Kanami is speaking.
Going to see them at House of Blues San Diego in October. I' hyped! Can't wait. My daughter bought me the tickets!
That is going to be awesome
Everybody is talking about pigeons; Miku Kobato is her stage name; in Japanese script it is 小鳩 ミク
小 | small
鳩 | pigeon
Thanks for the script!
More Band Maid pleaseee
Coming soon for sure!
Thanks! If you are on Discord it would be great if joined mine. I have a reaction recommendation section that would make this smoother! 👀
The best live rock band in the world....and bow down in the sacred presence of TinyHat-san.
The two guitarists are tiny dynamite...lead guitarist Kanami is 5'1 and rhythm guitarist Miku is 5' tall.
MADEfashionで!Hardrock、これぞJAPANカルチャー。よろしくね。

Vocals are great in Daydreaming, Kanami solo, you can check Unfair Game or Anemone, very bluesy. Drummer solo check Freedom. Overall performance, Puzzle. Hard rock, Take me Higher. My favourites are Matchless Gum and Unfair Game, B sides of Yolo single. I also live Honkai, Hibana. Recently, I went back to Clang. It’s always with Band Maid. After new album, Unseen world I went back to Freezer and Awkward. For cool production and fast tempo you may check Rinne. And many more.
They have so many good songs. A new album on the way. The last was a 10 out of 10 for me. Welcome And enjoy The ride
I also like this awesome bridge.

"Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Sense, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis!
And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 30 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 30 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 29 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Another great one to listen to would be their MV Blooming.
more bandmaid Stuff PLEASE
100% I am really looking forward to doing more
I have arrived a little late to this reaction but it has made me a subscriber.
Real Existence live... they will melt your face off
MISA!!! MISA!!!
Thank you much for the suggestions!
@@DrumRollTonyReacts no worries. I'm looking forward to your reactions. Have fun
That's the way to approach music in general 👏 🤟

You can’t miss with Bandmaid b/c Kanami (lead guitar) is a fantastic songwriter.
