Awesome review Becky! I enjoy a good trip to an art supply store. As I don't live close to any major cities I rarely get to see a store like this. I hope you have a great day!
Hi Becky, what a fun store and a great tour! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I look forward to seeing you used your purchases and freebies with us.
That ceramic palette looks lovely. Practical and compact - I love it. That light blue is pretty. Subtle but pretty. Those dot cards look like so much fun! I'm looking forward to the day when I can get back to my dot cards - it's such a fun challenge doing paintings with them. Fun tour, Becky; thank you!
Wowsers how thrilled I get to see all them awesome art supplies!!! I live here in Ca. U.S.A and we don't have any art store this jam packed with so many great supplies! Maybe in the next city over its bigger!? Real pretty blue!! Enjoy 😉!!
I LOVE these walk throughs! I only have access to big box stores-these little stores are how I picture "real" art stores. They are arranged so tastefully & visually pleasing. And they're so clean & neat! Senior Art is special to me. While trying to research whether a paper was really vegan, I ended up contacting them. They were so helpful & polite in their response
Fabulous video and commentary. You are so knowledgeable and explained everything so well. A beautiful shop with so many brands to choose from as well as so much stock! Look forward to visiting there.
What a great shop with a very nice range of supplies and brands. I feel blessed to have a good art shop within a half hour of my home. I much prefer shopping in person to mail order. I love your channel. You are the Miss Congeniality of UA-cam channels!
Great video I am visual and seen what they have is so valuable to me .I'm definitely making an order soon as I can . I was only thinking a few days ago ..gee I wish becky would do a artshop video again hahaa .thak you becky and the universe ✨️ 💖
And this is just Senior Art - there are numerous other art shops around Melbourne too. I am learning from my research doing this series just how many there actually are. I hope to visit them all over time! This isn't even counting other cities like Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane which all have some great stores too, lol.
Thanks so much for this video Becky! I didn’t know Senior Art opened in Brissie if it hadn’t been for your video. I’m going this morning (I was going to go to the Art Shed today and I can see that Senior Art is only just a few blocks away) I have bought many art supplies from Senior Art online before and I found them very friendly and helpful, so I will definitely be one of the ‘regulars’ 😉 Thanks so much for your lovely videos, you always put a smile on my face and I always learn something new from you. All the best.
I have seen Seniors Art on line a bit when looking up different supplies. I havent had an oportunity to get into one of their stores yet but wanted to. So glad to see one of the shops layout. They are very organised. It was really lovely that they gave you some samples too. They definately have a lovely range of good quality products.
This store in particular is laid out really well; their first one in Malvern is a little more "cosy" and not as much space. I do like that one too though!
This place looks so nice and airy! I normally go to the little Senior Art store in Degraves St in the city which is nice in a different way. I always appreciate watching Aussie art youtubers and being able to spot the more specifically Aussie references 😊
The manager told me that this used to be an IGA so it does have the feel of being a small supermarket with the pipes overhead. I like it though, it works well as an art store and there is a lot of room!
I've purchased watercolour supplies from here online. So nice to see the actual store in video. Thank you so much. What a stunning, clean and well organised store. Wish we had one in Perth WA. Can confirm the Baohong Masters Choice watercolour paper is gorgeous artist grade paper if anyone is interested. Not to be confused with the student grade Baohong pads sold on Amazon and Aliexpress.
That's a really nice store. I used to have a great store near my work. It was huge and I'd go there at lunch sometimes and browse and after lockdowns I went to find it and it sadly had closed. I do have Eckersley store near me, and I do there sometimes, but I find them a little more expensive. The other store was much bigger and it might not have been as high end as it didn't have all those huge brands, but it was huge and it had so much of everything.
Love the shop tour! I really enjoy seeing videos of art stores in other cities. We only have 2 options where I live. We have a chain store that carries a bit of everything (and would be a last resort since it really doesn’t carry good quality). We also have a true art store that I *love*, but it’s a fraction of the size of the store in your video and only carries a few brands. I feel lucky to have some local options though!
It can be really hard when there aren't a lot of large stores! Being in Melbourne, there are many. I count myself very lucky, though some of them are quite a drive to get to. But I can live with that, lol.
Another well done video… it’s nice to see the art supplies found in Australia… I’m in North Carolina USA, and most stores around here carry the same items, only different prices…
Pretty much everything is more expensive in Australia than it is in the USA, from what I've seen! Except maybe Aussie brands which are harder to get overseas.
Very interesting shop tour! Your commentary with the tour was very engaging. I wish I had an art store like that near me. Actually, for the sake of my bank balance it’s probably best that I don’t LOL. Thank you!
Beautiful display havnt been in our local art store for a while the expensive comment is so true that's why I havnt bought any thing in the last 2 months lol
Hi, Becky. I watched this video and became greener and greener with *envy* !!!! My nearest large art stores are in Bordeaux (a 3 hour drive) or Toulouse (1 hr 30 mins or more), and both are big cities, so for the most part, I'm stuck with mail order or my lovely friend at the local, and tiny art store, who will get things for me, so long a they are in the Dalbe Catalogue (a limited choice of companies and stock). I am longing to go somewhere which has the full selection of Faber Castell ploys and Albrecht Durer, and the Caran D'ache equivalents as I need to match some colours now discontinued in other brands... Envy's one of the seven deadly sins, and given how much of it I feel whenever I see videos of such beautiful shops ... hmmmm. But at least it doesn't lead to doing anyone harm, and I suspect that I'll still go on watching your series. As far as I know, curiosity is harmless in this case, too. The ice blue paint would be perfect for a Christmas snow scene! And I love that little ceramic palette. If I had it, I think I'd use it for mixing, so it would be used all the time (an excuse for having the pretty little thing on my table all the time...) Yes, as you replied to another comment, you've just presented for them a brilliant, free, advertising video, which will almost certainly pick up some custom for them! Even so, a lot of shops might not like someone filming, and you've also given *us* a brilliant video, so I guess it's a win-win situation.
Thank you! I've had to battle with my shyness to ask stores to film in them. I know the manager quite well at this shop so that helped make it a bit easier. I am sure not every place is going to be as accommodating but I hope with an ongoing series they can view beforehand, that this will enable me to film more videos over time. We shall see who lets me in! 😂 Also at the top of my wishlist is the Sennelier store in Paris. I speak no French which is a slight issue, doh!
@@BeckyTregear Sennelier art shop in Paris: language won't necessarily be a problem, so long as you can say, Bonjour (an absolute MUST when beginning any conversation in French!!!), "Au revoir et bon journée " (Goodbye. Have a good day - also a MUST as you leave someone who's done you a service of any sort) s'il vous plait (please), merci (thankyou) and the numbers up to 100 so that you can understand the bill, or squint at the total on the till's window. These few phrases and a big smile will add up to happy assistants and good service, because on the whole, English speakers don't understand the necessity for the first two (even now after 6 years, I can forget to say "Bonjour" if I'm a bit stressed!) to begin and end the conversation, or even the basic politeness of the others! Best pastels - you asked about that in the video and I forgot. Sennelier are the tops!!! Soft, delicious and beautiful to use. Collect a few basic colours, plus white and black, some decent pastel board (Pastelmatt by Clairefontaine if you can afford / get it in Australia, soft and delicious to work on) and enjoy yourself!!! Yes!!!
Yay, watching someone else art shop is ALMOST as fun as doing it myself 😂😂 Definitely costs less, anyways 😂 ***edit after watching*** Great video, heaps of fun seeing and being in that amazing store with you. Thanks for sharing with us, Becky!
I'm on the other side of the world and will never see one of these stores myself, but this was still fun to watch. Your voice is very relaxing! I want to go art supply shopping now, so it's probably a good thing I'm about an hour from the nearest art store, not including big box like Michael's (which I don't).
Haha yes it can be so tempting to go into nearby art stores. We are a bit spoiled in Melbourne with the sheer number of art shops, which is more than I thought when I wrote them all on a list, lol.
Very enjoyable video! The stores in Melbourne seem to be larger than the one in Brisbane. But I haven't been there for a while so I am not sure. I used up a block of the Bouhong cp paper and loved it very much. It is more textured than most cp papers though. I recommend trying the Michael Harding watercolours. I got some tubes from Jackson's and they are very beautiful to use. There are some unusual colour mixes as well. And I can recommend the Schmincke Horadam ocean grey. It is a wonderful colour. There is always more to get, isn't it? 😄
Always more! I am hoping that there might be some sets of Michael Harding or that Senior Art may get them in eventually. I did look at them online....I'm a bit broke right now so I'd have to save up for them.
Second the person who complemented you on your speaking voice, Becky. Old Holland is sold in Parker’s in Sydney (a proper art shop). It’s a tiny little hole in the wall in The Rocks but they carry a lot of interesting supplies including the Chinese paper you mentioned which I have used and it’s fine. Next time I come to Melbourne I am going to try to find some of those lovely art shops you have down there. Think I might look for that Neef palette it looks really lovely.
Thank you! Did you see if they stock the Old Holland watercolours? I've only ever seen the oil paints here. I guess I may well be visiting Parker's the next time I go back to Sydney, lol.
I know they stock the watercolours because I have some. They have a web site you can order from so check them out if you are interested. I hope they don’t take exception to me saying hole in the wall. It’s a tiny shop but it stocks a lot of really good quality art supplies. I think there is another store in the Eastern suburbs probably their main one. Keep up the good work.😊😊
I literally watched this and then jumped in the car to go there. I hadn’t yet been to the new location. I usually drop in to the CBD store on my way home from work when I’m in the office. It was worth the scrutiny of my husband on the dip in the savings account 😅
I'm starting to appreciate from the comments just how many art stores there are in both Melbourne and Australia as a whole. There are plenty more I'd like to film for this series! 😄
I really love your tour......I haven't really been "out in a shop" for 2 years and I am terrible when i go out, as i always want to buy somthing ahahhahahha, Yes Even Arts and crafts are crazy Prices xxx From across the Pond .Happy crafting xxx
What an art store! I’d love love love to have a shop like that near me. I feel like most art shops in the UK cater for kids or complete armatures as no professional products are ever on for sale. Good job for Amazon!
Melbourne has a lot of art shops; way more than I realised! The only UK stores I know of are Jackson's Art and Choosing Keeping. I'd love to visit those one day too. 😊
@@BeckyTregear they are both only in London unfortunately. We have a hobby craft but it is mainly aimed at children and students so I find it extremely limiting. I do love Jackson’s online, that is always the first place I look for art supplies, then cult pens are great too.
Great vid as always Becky… I lived quite close to the old Bulleen store - hadn’t been there in awhile although I was only thinking I should go soonish - now I might have a little bit longer in the car - but the destination looks well worth it… 🎨
I'm glad I saved you a trip to Bulleen, only to find it's not there anymore haha! The Eaglemont store is a lot bigger and nicer, plus parking is SO much easier as it is in a shopping strip and there are plenty of 2P spaces. There were maybe two spaces outside of Bulleen on that horribly busy road - I always made Nick do the parking there! 😂
Thanks so much for this video, I hadn't heard of Senior Art before. I visited their Malvern store yesterday and it's so good! One store I'd love to visit is Tritec in Yarragon, but it's just a bit too far away.
Oh that's great! Malvern is their original store, and it's the first one I ever visited too. I didn't know of Tritec so I will add that to my list of places to visit. 😊
@@BeckyTregear Ive been to a couple Syd art stores! Art Scene is probably my favorite as its the biggest one and has more selection compared to others. I dont like their website though lol
Love Art stores. In Colorado we have a couple Guirys art stores which are small and a Jerry’s art which strangely is not affiliated with the big one and that is an hour away. I would love to wander in blicks large store. Tfs
I would have such a great time in the USA visiting all of the big stores which I hear so much about. Blick is probably at the top of my visit wishlist, haha.
@@BeckyTregear there is a large art store in California that has great deals and I need to find the name again. Something like art wholesale or something
Liquid also does paint bags, I like using derivan Matisse and hydrochryl both make yummy paints, this store is a fabulous lolly shop for artists, you can't have too many art materials😁. Thank you for the video. Cheers from Tasmania!
@@BeckyTregear bloomin phone that's suppose to say liquitex😄😆. Yeah I'd make a mess too! That shop is fabulous, there aren't many where I am only 2 and they're over an hour to get to. Thank you for sharing the video it was fun I wanted everything!😁😆😆
A wonderful and very enjoyable tour. I loved the store very much, but I didn't think this store doesn't contain any of caran d'Ache products. Can you tell me from which store you take Caran d'Ache colored pencils, Supra Color and Luminance, is there a store nearby in Victoria that they provide, or do I order them from the online store?
That's a great question! The best place I know for Caran d'Ache would be The Art Shop in Bayswater VIC and they carry pretty much their full range in sets and singles open stock! Another tour I did was at The Art Shop - I actually have two videos as I'd filmed them and then they moved to a new premises a few months later, so I did an updated tour of their new shop, lol. The Art Shop dot Com dot Au is their website (it won't let me post links here) and you can see everything they have. They're a really big store, and really great for prices too.
I was looking are there discounts online and their sale prices are either the same or more than “ THE ART SHOP’s” normal prices. I know it’s good if you just need something quickly but ouch. Still beautiful would love you to do one of THE ART SHOP, their family opened so nice and even delivered to me at hospital at no cost
ARG! Becky! Why are you tempting me?! Senior Arts in Geelong when?? (I've been resisting filling my baskets with their online store DS sales for weeks) I love Derivan and their watercolours are great. I've been nagging them for a while to put their Australia shades from their Acrylic range into the watercolour range. Why Spotlight stopped selling Derivan I can't imagine...I hope Derivan isn't giving up their watercolours?
The art store is pretty big. I would love to visit it. And they gave you a lot of different dot cards. Here in Madrid you are lucky if they give you one 😄 That small porcelain palette is so cute. I would have bought it too. 😊
I think I received more dot cards because I was filming the video, haha! I have a feeling that Senior Art is the only place who sells that palette - I am glad they had stock this time, yay!
Acrylics do tend to be a lot cheaper to make I guess. Actually I think this free tube is really only meant for retail stores so they can demonstrate the product line to customers. I got lucky, lol.
What an absolutely FANTASTIC shop!!! Just want to shout out UNITED KINGDOM YOU SUCK!! We have the worse art shops here, there is nothing like this where it's just pure art goodies!! I think Senior Art, Fine Art Supplies should come and invade the U.K especially North Wales!! :D There is NO pure Art shops here at all!! Yes we have Hobbycraft but it's not the best as it's mostly hobby based and we have a shop called The Range which I guess is like a target but again they sell all sorts, I'd spend hours and lots of £££ in a pure art shop that's for sure! I loved your little art haul and what really peaked my interest was the dot cards, you can't get them in the above named shops here, I'd have to get them online, again U.K YOU SUCK!! hahaha great video!! :D
LOL! Meanwhile I have both Jackson's Art and Choosing Keeping on my visit wishlist for when we hopefully get back to the UK. I am starting to observe from the comments though that Australia (and especially Melbourne) seems to have a LOT of art stores by comparison to other places. I have quite a large list that I wrote out of all the shops I have visited and know of, which I would love to film as part of the series over time. I have my work cut out for me here. 😂
@@BeckyTregear the only way I can get stuff from keeping choosing and jacksons is online, as they are both in London!! absolutely ZERO pure art shops where I live, London is 5 hours drive, if the motorways are kind, plus I don't drive hahaha! I'm moving to Melbourne!! :D
@@Azkademon I can imagine the commute would be a long one! For physical size Melbourne is a sprawling city so we pretty much drive everywhere. The inner suburbs are at least on tram lines though.
I hear that! Though in a pinch I'll take a craft store....actually I quite enjoy those too if I'm honest, considering how much scrapbooking paper I own, lol.
Anybody????

Haha, I'm glad you managed to get there! 😊
Wow! Wish we had art stores like that here!
I'm starting to appreciate from the comments just how many art stores there are in both Melbourne and Australia as a whole. There are plenty more I'd like to film for this series! 😄
@@BeckyTregear I live in regional Victoria and we have no art stores so I love it when I get to come to Melbourne
I really love your tour......I haven't really been "out in a shop" for 2 years and I am terrible when i go out, as i always want to buy somthing ahahhahahha, Yes Even Arts and crafts are crazy Prices xxx From across the Pond .Happy crafting xxx
There are always so many tempting things to buy in physical stores, haha!
Going to an art store today!
Yay! 😆
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜
🤤 oh my….it’s so beautifulllll. I came on YT to avoid Black Friday in all the art shops over here and then you do this 😂
Hahaha I know the feeling! I may need to hide from the sales next week.
@@BeckyTregear 😃
Offft. Thanks for sharing this! Im in Sydney and have made couple of orders from them.
I hope to get back up to Sydney and revisit some of the stores there! I haven't yet been to all of them either, lol.
@@BeckyTregear Ive been to a couple Syd art stores! Art Scene is probably my favorite as its the biggest one and has more selection compared to others. I dont like their website though lol
I got the Matisse primary set for $5 from the opp shop one time. Had not been opened
Oh now that's a real bargain! I love finding things like that in op shops. ❤️
I can see me making a mess with paint bags. 😂
@@howlingwind1937 Haha I figured you meant Liquitex 😁
@@BeckyTregear I knew you would, don't you hate it when your smart phone thinks it's smarter than you.😁
Wish they would open in Sydney.
Surprised they don't have derivan artist watercolours. Seniors have them online, they are excellent for the price.
I didn't see them but maybe I just skimmed past without noticing.
Lovely store would they ship stuff to America thanks for sharing
I have a feeling they may only ship within Australia, but it might be worth asking them!
I use ice blue as my white along with buff
Both would be great for cool and warm options, I will do the same I think!
Great video! Have you been to The Art Shop in Bayswater? Would love to see that.
That's my most local store, haha! It is on my list and I am hoping to ask them next if I can film a walk through.
Mine too!
I go to the store in the CBD if I am close by. Got 6 pads of black sketchbooks. "That's not pack" "I don't care I will buy them all"
Haha, that's a lot of black sketchbooks! 😂
@@BeckyTregear Thank you very much for informing us of the best stores and making very useful introductory tours 🙏.
😍😍😍😍
I was looking are there discounts online and their sale prices are either the same or more than “ THE ART SHOP’s” normal prices. I know it’s good if you just need something quickly but ouch. Still beautiful would love you to do one of THE ART SHOP, their family opened so nice and even delivered to me at hospital at no cost
I hope to do a tour of The Art Shop soon too! 🙂
Omg so long to wait for my next tax return looool what a beautiful shop thanks for sharing 💕💕😁😁
I hope it's a good tax refund! 😆
@@BeckyTregear oh me too lol 😁👍
ARG!
I haven't heard anything about that...hopefully not, eh! The Art Shop sells Derivan watercolours from what I remember.
The art store is pretty big. I would love to visit it. And they gave you a lot of different dot cards. Here in Madrid you are lucky if they give you one 😄
That small porcelain palette is so cute. I would have bought it too. 😊
I think I received more dot cards because I was filming the video, haha! I have a feeling that Senior Art is the only place who sells that palette - I am glad they had stock this time, yay!
for one manufacturer to be giving away free t.white, and the other to be adding scrapings of blue to t.white and charging a premium, makes you think.
Acrylics in plastic containers, plastic paint in plastic containers, it all ends up in the water.
'Tis the sad reality of the world!
@@BeckyTregear I know, that's why I don't use Acrylics, plus it dries too fast for me. I can't make friends with it.
Love your video's but I could just listen to your voice alone to be honest. You have a very pleasant way of speaking.
Oh thank you! Perhaps I have found my calling: voiceovers! 😂
i miss proper art supplies stores. craft/hobby stores while nice are just not the same
I hear that! Though in a pinch I'll take a craft store....actually I quite enjoy those too if I'm honest, considering how much scrapbooking paper I own, lol.
