- LowDown SDG; in studio footage of Calling bass tracking.
Bass audio and video tracked and recorded by Chris Dugan at JingleTown Studios Oakland California.
From the song Calling by Christos Nikolaou.
Full song: • Calling - Video Clip ...
This is the softest Sadus song I've ever heard.
If only bass was always this audible
....And Justice For All....
...and Justice for Jason...
Cryptopsy-None So Vile
Imo the volume is, most of the time, alright (Metallica is an exception), but the equalization... oof. Metal studio producers seem to hate mids, and the players themselves don't seem to help either.
Thankfully, we have exceptions like DiGiorgio.
@@carlosgallegos1265 check out dominic lapointe, he used to be in beyond creation and now is in first fragment and shreds insanely on a 6 stringed fretless bass, its really audible as well and has such a cool sound.
I love how people don't know he used to play bass in Death (R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner)
+Kir0 I'm sad too that people don't know Steves' roots!! Human?! OMG, so much GOODNESS!! Individual Thought Patterns is my fav Death Album!! RIP Chuck!!
Gabriel Reis de Carvalho my first hero on the bass. I spent too many hours of my life trying to figure out the end of "the philosopher"
To me he was and he always will the Sadus bass player
Kir0 and Testament.
He also played in Autopsy
Beautiful bass in the hands of one of the best metal bassists ever! \m/
TRUE words brother!
He's weak player, bad technique and boring sound
The tone here (and certain elements of his playing) remind me of Geddy Lee. Steve is one the most underrated bassists. Fabulous player.
Yes. A mixture between Geddy, Steve Harris and John Entwhistle.
And yes
Steve digiorgio is NOT underrated
man, Steve Di Giorgio in not underrated at all... in fact, he's one of the most respected bassists in metal...
Chris Squire. YES.
Steve is one of the unsung heros of early 90s metal bass playing. He was doing fretless and complex bass work when others were riding one note for 16 measures and playing an octave and 5th for accents.
HAIL KING STEVE!!!
That has to be the best looking Rick I have ever seen.
Dom Hawtin guess it's a 4003W
I bet its 3 grand, if not more.
@@freeschaeffercox1640 I think it's just a 4003w with a swapped pickguard, so around $2,300
@@caseyking8394 Picked up a brand new Ric 4003 Mapleglo out the door for $1499.
@@gutbucket260 yeah I think the figure I was citing is the recommended price by Rickenbacker. I actually just ordered a fireglo 4003 for a price similar to what you paid. Congrats on your new Ric!
His work on Sadus Swallowed In Black and Vision Of Misery is absolutely stunning. If you haven’t heard those and you love his playing you don’t know what you’re missing...
Those are the best ones. I had just covered one of the tunes from A Vision of Misery. Amazing music on those albums and the bass is just unreal. People ignore it too much
That Rickenbacker is just stunning. Reminds me of Chris Squire, RIP
Killer tone man!
I love watching DiGiorgio play. He makes it seem so effortless whether hes playing death metal or ambient. His style and tone are amazing
total class...knows when to pull it back...what a great player this gentleman is. And that tone is why I play a Rick.
ferox965 That is why I rate him above Alex Webster. Steve knows when to play while Alex doesn't know when to stop. Both great bassists but Steve does it more for me
I think Steve has simply played more genres than Alex. I'd love to see what Alex could do outside the death metal idiom...granted, he doesn't really have to I suppose, but they are just awesome players...
I mean, Steve is also better than Alex in terms of technicality and groove, but I agree. Alex is really awesome, though.
Not much going on in the song, but Steve still manages to make the most of it with his bass line. Brill video.
Always love his dynamic since first time I have heard Death.
Perfect fit for the song... So different music styles all these years, but you always fit the bass so perfect and unique, that's the most characteristic part of a great musician!
Excellent song from Christos and incredible playing (as always) by Steve!!! That Ric is a beauty to watch
I love the way and how fast he changes between different techniques, especially on his right hand
another outstanding performance my brother...my eternal respect and admiration
Watching SDG playing the bass is a pleasure in itself. Bass-Master!
What a fabulous master piece!
His finger technique is too similar to John Entwistle of The Who, great performance!!!
A whole lotta Geddy Lee's vibe in it. Love it! And you are my own personal JC, man! Thanx for the music! Thanx for the bass playin'...
That tune is wicked.
The bass playing is awesome.
Love the tone maestro!
Wow, this is my first time checking him out after seing him to a shred on a 6str fretless in a short clip. This man is super musical and free. One of the best technical players Ive seen too and Ive shook hands with myung. A beautiful listen.
Much respect to one of the best bassist ever.... Well done.
Yes!! what a heavy hand! Loved hearing he playing on this rick!
What a Beautiful Bass!!!!!!! And that sound😱😱😱
I would rather see him playing the ending part of The Philosopher (Death)
Trust me dude, I work on these parts for about 30 days and still didn't make any great progress. Maybe some day....
@@Autos_ena_miden ua-cam.com/video/eGope68pHf0/v-deo.html this vid has no fade on the last part, so you should be able to learn off of it.
Or Jealousy.
This is beautiful
The way he anchors his thumb behind the E string and not on top of it is wild to me. It's part of how he gets that crazy powerful right hand attack. His right hand technique in general is just so bad ass. Power, agility, and economy in equal parts. I discovered him along with Sadus back in the early 90's and as a bass player couldn't for the life of me figure out how he did some of that stuff. So cool to be able to see it finally!
You can really see on his face that he enjoys and loves what he's doing. 🤘
Steve has always been one of my favorites. This tune reminds me of Geddy Lee and Rush.
A beautiful instrument, and in his side a great bass
That is one gorgeous bass.
this is beautiful
This dude is by far the......"The Dude"
This is more musical then technical and musical always comes before technical anyway
God that tone
Phenomenal!!! Great bass playing bud
Lo que toca Steve, lo hace oro!
Maestro! Love it!
this is a brilliant mind and great guy.
so powerful bass tone!
Walnut Ric = love
that is one beautiful bass
beautiful song ...
Haunting as always
Best video ever, Steve Di Giorgio!
Brutal Seeet! Always the best sounds and awesome textures. Steve you make it look so easy. Saw you play in what looked like cast with Sadus in SF at the Kibuki half using a pick and your fingers! You made that look easy too somehow. 🤘
SDG Is Utterly Amazing!!!!
Amazing!!!!!!!
Are you Fn kidding me. Well done Steve!! Love it. Big SS here
When I saw him play in NC he blew my mind as a bass player.
Symbolic acts...
he didnt play on that album
mistrz basówki , Steve the Philosopher of bass
Lo mejor de lo mejor amigo. Haz más vídeos así eres genial lml
I really enjoy listening to Di Giorgio and all his crazy bass lines especially on the Death albums! I am not sure if its the track itself or the bass, but the song reminds me of New Order. Some lost "metal" track from Get Ready.
Der beste Bassist aller Zeiten, eine Wohltat in zu hören.....😊
This was killer!
Great song wow amazing melodies all througo❤ut
One of a few shortlisted metalhead musicians that been recognized and appreciated by other popular mainstream genre to be in their production.
That was bad ass!
This man...is a real bass player!
The bass player!!!
fantastic bass player !!
so sick!
Que increible Tono! Saludos de un fan Chileno!
That is one of the prettiest basses ive seen!
Happy birthday Steve!! See ya with Testament in Milan!!!
Sounds awesome. \m/
That's a sweet Rickenbacker.
Good one Mr Steve, Rick is soooo masive!!
Very nice bass, man!!
BRAVO!!!
He is the one... unbelivable
That Ric sounds so good. Can you give details on the signal chain you used? I see the Ampeg head and the Avalon U5 beside it.
Amazing! One take.
Great player!
Knows when to hold back and when to let fly. Weird seeing Steve play a 4 string bass
@SDGLowEnd the intro reminds me of some of Bob Daisley's stuff on The Eternal Idol, sounds killer!!
I wish Steve would make a video playing his work on Soen's, Pluton. He did such an amazing job on that song. X0
Damn cool, song reminds me of something Dark Tranquillity would do.
I really need some lessons, this is beautiful bass work.
masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Another of the bedt in the world w/ no close 2nd, "LEGEND
What a phenom.
I'd be so stoked to see him play anything from Vintersorg's "Visions from the Spiral Generator" (E.S.P. Mirage?).
Great player!
Nice modulating effect on the bass😊
that style and rhythm..
great job on that rick !
STRAORDINARIIIIIIIOOOOOO..... GRANDE STEVE !
This guy is fn ridiculous !🤘
So cool seeing him play a Ric.
Shit I haven’t seen Steve play a fretted bass that much. What an amazing player. One of the best imo
and the God laugh at other bass players through Steve Di Giorgio !
"You're pretty lazy on that fretboard, can you speed it up and do some technical shit?" - Joey Jordison when recording with Steve on Roadrunner United
He makes it look sooo easy : )
Simple enough song to play, but that Rickenbacker just has such a.beautiful tone.
It's weird to see him play a fretted bass
Steve is the best extreme metal bassist!!!
