Unexpected consequences of decluttering for me so far: waking up earlier, cooking more often, feeling more confident in my abilities to tackle difficult problems. For me, decluttering is a form of self care that I didn't know I needed😊.
We started having Thai food takeout for thanksgiving and Christmas since we were having smaller gatherings with older children who aren’t really into the big turkey meal and fixings. I was drained physically, emotionally, and mentally. We tried it, we love it, it was non stressful, and now it’s become our tradition 😅❤
We get delicious all-made turkey dinners at a lovely local restaurant. Then we don't cook, we just "heat". It's the best. We look forward to and enjoy the simplicity and fun of the holidays :)
My husband keeps saying we should do this for both holidays and I've pushed back on it but maybe you and he have the right idea! We're vegan and I cook all plant based sides and desserts and if someone wants meat, they handle that but this allows everyone to just get exactly what they want. Hmmmm thanks for the confirmation that it's ok. (And I can then probably hold onto fewer serving pieces...)

Hey hun! How did you get up the courage to start your youtube channel? For years my husband had to work on Thanksgiving. We opted for pizza for the meal and watched our first Christmas movie of the season. It was actually a great tradition. That tradition was replaced when he no longer worked on Thanksgiving. GREAT memories and all positive. Don't beat yourself up for not having turkey, etc on Thanksgiving day.
We decluttered, deep cleaned, decorated, cozied up rooms for overnight guests, prepared to host a super full house, then ORDERED an entire traditional meal for Thanksgiving. Best decision ever! It was easy, delicious and we're still working through leftovers. 😊
Ohhh, I missed the time of the cost I could afford by only a short time! It's still good to see the regular UA-cam videos so that's great! This was a hard Thanksgiving for me. I am a middle aged woman and my parents got into an argument on Thanksgiving Day. My dad didn't even come to Thanksgiving dinner. We spent so much time, money and effort getting all the food and my house ready, only for a stupid argument to ruin the day. He still won't talk to any of us. I needed to hear this today Dawn, so, thank you. ❤
Oh Dawn, with you and our community my esteem and efficacy have soared!!!! My soul has also soared. This community and your words and spirit have taken me through hard times and improved the comfort and ease of my home. You have helped us all incorporate tools and strategies to ease our lives. Just blessings to us all. You are a blessing. 🙏🏼💕
I’m 42! This is the best time of my life! We had movie day and we ate Chinese food. It was peaceful and perfect 🙌🏽 You are correct, we had traditional thanksgiving food that friends shared with us. They had an abundance and we were ok with that. God bless you!
I got my house decluttered! I don’t feel overwhelmed with it anymore. I went back to school and started with just 1 masters program and then added a second one because of how well I set my house/life up I feel like I can do it all now!
Just wanted to add that I’ve been a member for about a year and half and it really does make a difference having the community, variety of incentives, challenges, and extra content from Dawn. I don’t always make as much progress every month but it definitely pays for itself over the year in decluttering muscles, consistency and change in mindset. Good for you! We had a simple meal nothing traditional and it was great! Not a ton of dishes and few leftovers. I also made one simple dessert, spice cake mix and a can of pumpkin. It was awesome! Love your videos!!
Thanksgiving isn't about the food, it's being together having fun and whatever you want to eat and if ya have to much food then you give to friends that don't have enough, easy peasy, not rocket science lol
I love that you had pizza!! We have "favorites day" where anything goes. We had pizza, biscuits and gravy, Mac and cheese, etc. So fun and less stressful!
A few times, I've gone to the shop late on Christmas Eve, and just picked up all the marked down food items that were ready prepared, for Christmas meal, it was fun because there was no expectation about what we would be eating, it was a lucky dip !
I love being included in the definition of "middle aged woman" because middle age encompasses such a broad swath of time. I feel so youthful regardless of my current age (68) and I thought middle age applied to me by my mid-30's when so many major things had already happened in my life. Here is the great thing: once I embraced the idea of what middle age meant, it also meant getting to own all the wisdom and equanimity living life brought with it. And I was amazed to discover that I had so much more impact than I ever thought my footprint on this earth could lead to. And it led me to trusting myself and trusting the world. I try to be a force for kindness, support and validation, and it begins smack in the center of me, in a way I could not have known fully in my 20's.
@@lindaespinosa4390 You are poised to love getting older because it also means getting wiser and ever more appreciative of possibilities. I have no true regrets but the one thing I would go back to change is to have had a great attitude all through my life rather than only waking up to finding life's potential only out of my 20's.
@@andreamiller6200 totally! You could n ot pay me to be 19 again! I was full of so much self doubt but I needed to fall on my butt to become this person!
Yes, alternate meal for Thanksgiving. We had prime rib, roasted potatoes, steam in the bag vegetables, and dinner rolls, pie, frozen and baked the day before , and ice cream later in the day. One pan as the potatoes were peeled and cut in the roasting pan, put bag in the microwave for veggies, and popped dinner rolls in oven while roast was resting. Easy! Took just a few minutes prep time, basically peeling a few potatoes. Not overwhelming and we were able to visit and relax during the day.
We've been DUE for getting dumped on with snow and ice after the last 2-3 years of mild winters in the middle part of Illinois! I KNEW this was coming, LOL! Oh man. I clean up so much ice melt at work that gets tracked in (better than people falling) but it's so messy!
This is exactly what I need. Signed up! I've found that I need daily and weekly structure to succeed, but I'm BAD at designing the structure myself. This is the boost I need to get going. Thankful.

Oh I agree about the holiday feeling like it was too much this year. I started baking on Monday and cooked on Tuesday thru Thursday. I still have a pile of dishes in the sink, because I couldn’t get to it yesterday. I enjoyed the couple I had over, in addition to to my four, but I was completely wiped out. Honestly, I’m glad that Christmas is just us. I’m done❤lol
I didn't cook this year either. I just got to a point where I was kind of fed up with all that work, no help, then our 3 boys are at the table for 3 minutes and then I have all the clean up. Ugh. This year, My husband bbq a turkey (he always does) and he made mashed potatoes. That was it. I did nothing and it was great. 🎉

I love your honesty about doing what was manageable for you and your fam(most anyways). We did the same. It was a fish fry as the next day most of us had turkey plans. It was so nice for the change up!
I'm about to hit the big 5-0 and it is amazing how unmanaged decluttered spaces fill back up. Excited to get more ideas, more accountability, and the meal prep and cleaning side of the membership sounds perfect.
I love that Maggie wanted Thanksgiving! She will probably be the one that wants to host it in the future. I was thinking the same thing about my daughter this Thanksgiving.
We did something special this year with a somewhat traditional Thanksgiving meal with Turkey and dressing. But this time, we each brought 4 items that our individual family actually WANTED to eat instead of the traditional southern dishes. One appetizer, two sides, one dessert from each sibling’s family. We chose food that could be prepped on Wednesday and cooked on Thursday at the host home. So we arrived early and cooked together and snacked on appetizers. And possibly drank a little wine . It was SO MUCH FUN with all of the female siblings and sisters in law cooking together. We’ve never done that before. We always stress for days, cook food no one wants and the food is cold by the time we get there. 😝. AND. the grandkids were able to immediately go play instead of sitting through a meal no one wanted. Perfect!!! It’s now our new tradition.
We went to my mom's and made Thanksgiving dinner for HER. She loved it and loved our slightly different recipes from the ones she makes; Turkey & Salmon, cornbread stuffing balls, Italian-style green beans, blue cheese walnut salad, white & sweet potato casserole & rolls. Garden pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream. Worth all the effort.
Yes, that's what should happen as parents age -- the "middle-aged" generation should be stepping up and handling dinner and not expecting Grandma to do it all. They should be coming to our houses and not having the mess at their house.
We originally agreed to pizza, too, but my grandson changed his mind. I cooked it all by myself. My sister spent a week in the hospital and was released just in time to join us. Usually, I have at least one girl at home to help me, but 2 girls left to other gatherings out of town. I spent today resting up!
I think that's a marketing ploy, similar to the prices you see stated for Take Your House Back. They never actually charge that much but use it to entice people to sign up at the "discounted" rate. As much as there has been talk on here about marketing schemes, the same tactics get used here. 😞
I just joined Live Free because you now have an app coming. I have wanted to be part of the group so much. I found you this last Spring. I did not want to go back to social media even to be a part of your group. When today on your podcast you said an app is coming out I zipped to get my credit card and joined. Yahoo
@lindaespinosa4390 my parents are 90 and 93. I have zero desire to live that long. They have many many issues. We are at the hospital right now with Mom. This is no way to live IMO
Yes we had grilled cheese for lunch and frozen pizza for dinner! We are all sick and keep saying we will do thanksgiving feast the next day and then put it off another day😂
Hi Dawn! I've been watching you for a few years now, and I think I'm ready to take things up a notch and join the mentor group. I was wondering if it includes the Take Back Your House sessions as well? Or if that's a separate thing? Thanks for everything you do!
My skills, work 5 min. and watch a video...Have a yard sale everything $1.00 it goes fast and you have cash in your pocket. Everything else goes to donations. 72 yrs old
The regular tier is only going up $5. She's adding a tier 2 and that is where the real increase will be. But if you join now your price will never go up no matter which tier you choose.
Are we dropping some expectations of tradition? Nothing wrong with that. Christmas is coming, how many are dreading the complicated expectations? Simplify and remember that a lot of traditions are actually marketing ploys. 🧐
Please help. I paid for the Live Free option. I can't get to the step after signing up for the Facebook group. I also can't do it right now. (Long shifts plus aging parents.) How do I get to the intro video in a few days? Also, I signed up under my real name. I use a fake name for security reasons on UA-cam.
Hi Dawn. I'm an empty nester and still work full time. Living alone. Not sure I have the bandwidth to respond/participate full time. However, my clutter/stuff is overwhelming. How should I start?
Honestly the group is at your pace! I do the replays if I can’t make it but If don’t want to commit I just put one of her videos on and start there and end when the videos end so you don’t get burnt out!
I can't afford a cleaning service but I am considering it because in the past having one helps me have that outside structure I need. Could this be a cheaper alternative?
oh 100%, becuase you have less stuff to manage and feel good getting rid of stuff. I use the morning body doubling to literally get ready in the ready in the morning instead of scrolling on tic tok.

We used paper plates this year.
Since hurricane Michael in 2018, we've been using paper plates every meal. You can, too! 😂
Our family dislikes turkey dinner, so we made pizza in our pizza oven! Low stress and everyone enjoys making their own
Cracker Barrell is a gem when you don't want to do a Thanksgiving meal! You can order one meal haha
Happy Thanksgiving. I truly enjoy your videos and love to see your smile. Learned many helpful tips.
Here for the middle aged woman content!! (Complete with tearing up 🤣🤣❤️) thanks for being so inclusive, too. ✌️
Grandson needed to help! Ha! Glad you made it thru.
I agree with this formula 💯 percent!!
We did pizza and pie last year, and it was awesome!
I really enjoyed being in your group for a while but $45 a month is insane!!😱 $540 a year, Dawn?? Whoa 😳
I think that's a marketing ploy, similar to the prices you see stated for Take Your House Back. They never actually charge that much but use it to entice people to sign up at the "discounted" rate. As much as there has been talk on here about marketing schemes, the same tactics get used here. 😞
I think we need to normalize not having traditional meals.
Agree 100%!
Wait. I thought the whole point of decluttering our home was so that we didn’t run out to get pizza. 🤔😆
I just joined Live Free because you now have an app coming. I have wanted to be part of the group so much. I found you this last Spring. I did not want to go back to social media even to be a part of your group. When today on your podcast you said an app is coming out I zipped to get my credit card and joined. Yahoo
We started having pizza/subs/...yummy foods like that for the past 2 or 3 Christmases.
I’m middle aged and the title drew me in. I don’t think of Dawn as middle aged though.
I think middle aged is not 60s...me neither!
I'm 55. I don't call myself middle aged but I prob am lol. I doubt I will live to 100 😂
@@dianasimplifies not with that attitude lol!
@lindaespinosa4390 my parents are 90 and 93. I have zero desire to live that long. They have many many issues. We are at the hospital right now with Mom. This is no way to live IMO
Pizza! We have pizza when we don't want to do traditional Thanksgiving food. It's a tradition, good for you! It is fun
Yes we had grilled cheese for lunch and frozen pizza for dinner! We are all sick and keep saying we will do thanksgiving feast the next day and then put it off another day😂
I think that’s great that you and your Mom did pizza! I would love to do that!
We had pizza this year for Thanksgiving too!
Excellent Dawn, one of your best videos. Thanks 🦘
🎉I think it was awesome that you had pizza for Thanksgiving. What a relief
We grilled steak, grilled vegetables, potatoes, salad, rolls and pies. It was so much easier and more enjoyable this year.
We had fajitas for Thanksgiving. :)
I thought I was middle aged… 62 years old. But, Dawn, if you and Diana are middle aged, I must be ancient 😂
If you’re ancient, I don’t know what I’d be considered at 75!
Guess it depends how long you're planning to live. I totally back you living into your 12th decade 😂❤🎂
I’m 61 and I’m telling people 60 is the new 40 💪
Unfortunately Trades of Hope isn't available in England which is such a shame.
Haven't been here in awhile...your hair is fabulous!♥️🇺🇲
We have taco bar every Christmas😂
I love that!!!
@@dianasimplifiesthank you for the inspiration!
That is such a great idea!
I LOVE that you had pizza for Thanksgiving!!!!
Me and my niece had Red Thai Curry. Her kids weren't totally on board and had some steak and Mac & Cheese.
Hi Dawn! I've been watching you for a few years now, and I think I'm ready to take things up a notch and join the mentor group. I was wondering if it includes the Take Back Your House sessions as well? Or if that's a separate thing? Thanks for everything you do!
Dawn - you are amazing! I love the mentorship group. BTW, you can also get a piece of turkey and not the whole bird. 😉
Yes and we just do a turkey breast.
So much takes place on fb though - why couldn’t it be UA-cam lives?
Good question! That’s actually where it will be in the New Year 👍
My skills, work 5 min. and watch a video...Have a yard sale everything $1.00 it goes fast and you have cash in your pocket. Everything else goes to donations. 72 yrs old
I'm curious what advice would be when your spouse is not on board.
I guess I'll HAVE to join now to avoid the unreasonable price increase. Putting those marketing skills to work eh 💔😔
The regular tier is only going up $5. She's adding a tier 2 and that is where the real increase will be. But if you join now your price will never go up no matter which tier you choose.
Wait, so we aren’t your first love?! 🤣You spend most of your time with the membership group? Sign me up!
Can you put a link to that article on Self efficacy please. Good information to have. I love learning new concepts on self- improvement.
How do you do these things when you have a disability and depression and anxiety ? That always brings back a problem
I ask this on the live stream, can I be a member without being on Facebook ❓love you
now you can!
Thumbnail is so pretty!!! ❤❤
What in the world do I do about people who live in my house that have huge inventory that spills into other areas of my house?!
boundary setting girl, and a lot of people talked about that in the group especially the one's who were housing people affected by the hurricane
Oh my gosh, this title! I feel attacked! 😂 💀
Are we dropping some expectations of tradition? Nothing wrong with that. Christmas is coming, how many are dreading the complicated expectations? Simplify and remember that a lot of traditions are actually marketing ploys. 🧐
It is nice to see that some kids won't eat Thanksgiving food. That is so funny. Thought all kids liked that.
I love you too 💕
Please help. I paid for the Live Free option. I can't get to the step after signing up for the Facebook group. I also can't do it right now. (Long shifts plus aging parents.) How do I get to the intro video in a few days? Also, I signed up under my real name. I use a fake name for security reasons on UA-cam.
You’ll go to the minimal mom website and log in! The intro videos are there too!
I’m having the same issue
The link is not working now!
That’s what I’m wondering!
oh 100%, becuase you have less stuff to manage and feel good getting rid of stuff. I use the morning body doubling to literally get ready in the ready in the morning instead of scrolling on tic tok.
How many are in the membership group?
like 2 thousand in the facebook group but each time as a different set about 30 women! So Ive gotten to know some of them!
