This is exactly what a physio told me years ago when I broke my ankle playing tennis. The break was so bad because of the weak muscles and tendons around the ankle, so response times were slower than they should be. My brain wanted to reposition the foot so it wouldn't break, but the ankle couldn't respond fast enough.
