It’s super interesting to see the limitations of a strictly ballet dancer reflect in lyrical style. In america it’s super rare to have pure ballet training, so I don’t know anybody with advanced ballet skill and nothing in modern styles. In fact normally I consider lyrical to be closer to ballet than to any other style of dance, but this video really highlighted the technical differences

I’m from California and I actually have almost pure ballet training (with some tap, and i’ve been in contemporary pieces, but never actually trained in it). I started theater and have had to do jazz and stuff with no training in it and it really does make a difference. There are so many small nuances where everyone else is able to open up and release and I am still so upright and “tight” almost. I recently started a jazz technique class and it is making a huge difference and really loosening me up.

I'm also in California and only had pure ballet training. I only started venturing out after I already had been dancing for 13 years. Being cross trained is actually relatively a new concept where I'm from.

To be honest until 4 years ago when I soped dancing I favored lyrical training more than Ballet science I have a little bit of harsh relationship with Ballet I adore watching but I kind of hate to dance it and contemporary really helps me to get out my head and I did shared class room with pure ballet trained dancers nd they're so stiff at the beginning so as I but then when they get the hang so much faster and is just Matter of them getting their way onto the movements nd they end up nailing it.

Claudia did say in another video that she did do jazz as a teen, but clearly her passion is ballet and if you actually want to be a professional ballet dancer, you honestly just don't have time to also mess around with other dances. You need to be comitted to ballet, period. So of course all of the years of ballet training would take over and become habit. I honestly think that Americans overdo the cross training anyway.

The styles of dance I do is ballet I started when I was 3,lyrical I started 2 years ago,and finally contemporary I started about 4 years ago. But I am holding 5 natintonal titles in lyrical and 7 in contemorary. I do a bit of gymnastic’s so I can get more tricks. But I do a day of gymnastic’s 2 days of lyrical,1 day of contemporary because I kinda do half a day of contemporary on the lyrical day,and 2 and a half days of ballet. But I sort of share the contemporary and the lyrical on 1 day. But right now I’m preparing to get ready to go back and try keep all my titles again.

I love you Claudia !!! you're like suuch a ballet dancer through and through ! asking about every inch of every position and always knowing exactly where every inch of you is at all times haha. Because your question is actually super valid, how do these people remember all of this, but then unlike ballet, they apparently don't, they just learn to feel their way through it, especially through that freedom that is practically nonexisting in ballet :D )) so I'm sure it's pretty hard to work with ballet dancers who are super fast learners and technically capable of literally everything, but then when you've spent all your life trying to get used to the fact of no freedom at all except through technique itself, to try to then find your way again in complete freedom and having to bear the responsability of those choices then :D ))) super interesting video nontheless, thank you so much for posting it and OMG Sam is stunning !!

@@brianalejandroful Àwww! All art should make you feel Something, dance included. Lyrical more than any other genre tends to be more passionate because it starts with what you are feeling and builds upon that, whether it's a wave of crushing emotions or airy spritely, joyful, emotions. Emoting comes from not only every movement but stillness as well. Amazing, how watching someone else learn brings back powerful memories of my own experiences.

Those of you asking for the names of the tricks. Lyrical contemporary moves can have many names so it depends on the teacher. This is what I would call them:
Trick #1 develope to the floor or knee develope or knee tilt
Trick #2 turning tilt or turning pitch
Trick #3 back attitude jump or rond de jambe jump or turning attitude leap
Trick #4 turn with develope or turn with rond de jambe
Trick #5 center leap or split jump

Girl that was amazing! I would have been too tired by the time the rehearsal was done to perform the number hahaha! That was a lot of hidden strength moves! Well done Sam! And well done Claudia! You did so great, the only advice I could find at all was to slow down the momentum in your 3rd turn, so that when you go to lift your leg you are already begining the slow motion process before the leg ever rises. Get real heavy in your supporting leg on turn 3, but obvi. keeping ribs in for balance. I have done the slow motion exit out of turns for too too long now, so now I need help with keeping a tighter consistent turn lmbo. Hard to be 2 people at the same time eh!? 😂
That was brilliant though! You have a natural gift for artistic expression that shows well when you do lyrical. Hugs!
