Reason why Seasmoke Chose Addam of Hull - Valyrian Ancestry Revealed

- In the latest episode of House of the dragon titled Small folk, the whole idea of dragonseeds and their ability to claim dragons was tested and in it we saw the first unfortunate casualty in the trial which would later be called the sowing of the seeds or the red sowing due to the many deaths of the people trying to claim the unclaimed dragons in Dragonstone. We also saw later in the episode that Seasmoke after burning Darkland to a crisp decided to fly to Driftmark and choose Addam of Hull as his new rider. So here in this video we will dive deep into Dragon lore of A song of ice and fire and reason out how Addam was able to bond with Seasmoke, his lineage and all.
It all started in Valyria, thousands of years ago when the shepherds there found dragon eggs in the land known as the fourteen flames.
So, as per the books and the series, the targaryens or those with the dragon blood in their veins are the only ones that can bond with a dragon.
Now, we come to the crux of the topic and that is Why did Seasmoke choose Addam of Hull as his rider when Addam was neither a Targaryen or a Velaryon with Targaryen blood. He was a simple bastard of Driftmark right? Or is there something more than what meets the eye.
Alright, if we take a look at Addam's ancestral line, we must first know who his mother was. Although not named in the series yet, Addam and Alyn's mother was called Marilda of Hull
Now if we look at their father, it might be one of two people, either Laenor Velaryon the son of Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen or the Sea snake himself.
That zOOm was intentional...😂

How To Train A Dragon Rider
THIS WAS THE BEST DESCRIPTIVE AND EXPLANATORY VIDEO AVAILABLE! Thank you for this 🙏🏽
Aethan Velaryon is the son of Daemon Velaryon, which was the brother of Valaena Velaryon (mother of Aegon the COnqueror and his sisters) and we know Valaena's mother (and by extension the mum of Daemon) was a Targaryen. So Aethan paternal granmother is a Targaryen. So through them comes the Targaryen blood.
Ahem! The siblings of Valaena Velaryon were Aethan (another one), Visara, Daenara, Valaera and Jaenara. Daemon was a relative, unrelated to her mother (Rhaella Targaryen).
Interestingly, if this is correct it takes a difference of 4 generations between a Targaryen and their descendant to be accepted by a dragon. Oddly enough in the books some guy called Quentyn Martell tried taming a dragon because he had Targaryen ancestry probably referring to Daenerys Targaryen, the daughter of Aegon IV, (not the same Daenerys from Game of Thrones) when she married Maron Martell before the Blackfyre Rebellions. However, that didn't end well for him.
So in Addam's case, his Targaryen ancestry can be traced back to the birth of Daemon Velayron around 10 BC and it is 130 AC by the time of the HotD, so that's about 140 years difference. Meanwhile, Quentyn's Targeryen ancestry can be traced around 187 AC when Daenerys married Maron Martell, Quentyn's attempt to tame a dragon took place around 300 AC making it 113 years difference in ancestry. However, the Velayrons were Valyrians while the Martells had Rhoynish ancestry but no Valyrian relations, so being Valyrian may play a role in the taming process. Additionally, there may be a different number of generations between ancestors and descendants for both Addam and Quentyn that I didn't consider. Thought it was interesting to compare the two cases.
I wouldn't count the show as source material when it comes to this.
This was pure bullshit. They broke so manh laws with ths. Firstly, the leanor was alive. If the rider is alive, no one can claim a dragon. This makes the same as horses.

@@somabanerjee8738 thanks for the compliment but I’d be the wrong guy. I just like analysing things.
Quentyn actually could have possibly managed to clain a dragon, yes, he unfortunately did so in a bad position, he was trying to bond with Viserion but Raeghal was also in the same location and even if he had bonded with one of the dragons he would still be antagonized by the another, Viserion wasn't even aggressive in Quentyn's presence until his brother attacked the boy and stirred up Viserion's aggression
@@davisiotta489 Seasmoke wasn't aggressive with Steffon too.. and then burnt him.

I think it's obvious that Seasmoke chose Addam because he's fine as hell.
Out of all the videos explaining this, you have the best one.
You should read up GRRM's recent blog about dragons as he implies that dragon bonding isnt as cut and dry about bloodline (hence Nettles) and he also states that Septon Barth was right.
Barth's book, Unnatural History theorises that dragons are a domestic animal created by Bloodmages who crossbred Sothroyos Wyverns and Valaryian Firewyms to create a mobile superweapon for their armies. However they were also bred to be more docile and sedentary to prevent roaming dragons from falling into the hands of their enemies. This also implies that its possible for non Valayrians to bond with dragons though its likely to be exceedingly difficult and highly dangerous.
Adam is Leanor half brother
Bro was no one before, and now has a focking DRAGON
I mean the valeryons are also Valyrian in their own right, they weren't dragon riders but that doesn't mean they didn't have the genes for it, just that they didn't own or have access to them.
Look up Dragon bonding and Blood magic that key.
Given that Laenor is Seasmoke’s first rider … perhaps it has imprinted upon Seasmoke to find a bloodline most similar to Laenor and closest to Laenor’s personality thus he chose Addam.
Poor Darlyn and the Dragons trainer.
Interesting video but could have done without the AI breast close up shots.
First thank you for the video but there is an error at 8:10. You stated that Adam has Rhaeny’s Targaryen blood in him due to Adam and Laenor being brothers. The blood relation came from Corlyn which is what I think you meant to say.
That drag claim the raider so nice
Can you please do a size prediction of meraxes based off her skull in Dragonstone?
Thanks you, that makes more sense now
4:04 EYY YOOO WHATS WITH THIS SHOT

Does this mean Rhaegal is going to go to the wall for Jon if a dragon can sense their rider 😂😂😂
Y’know he just might 😂. And Barristan has commented in the TWOW pov chapter released that Rhaegal is the most vicious of the trio.
That would have been bad ass and would give Rhaegal more personality…the vicious asshole (who burned his brother’s potential rider just because he’s salty about not being chosen) … thus went to get his own because he doesn’t want to be passed on the second time around (but he’d gladly burn the next idiot who chose Viserion oven himself)
@@walkrwalkr3622 tbh I have a personal headcanon that Rhaegal becomes vicious because he’s salty af about him and Viserion being locked up in Mereen while Drogon roamed free. He very much feels abandoned by Dany and he’s super protective of Viserion
Come on. Laenor as their dad? No. Where does their dragon blood then come from if not Rhaenys? Well, the Velaryons and the Targaryens have been intermarried several times in the past, so the Velaryons at this time are perfectly capable of riding dragons if so allowed.
I think it goibg to be brought up that one doesnt necessarily need dragon blood to ride a dragon if the dragon chooses you
Non of the dragons weve seen choose Rhaena to ride them and she almost dies even though both of her parents rode dragons
Seasmoke clearly sensed his old daddies blood in Addam
It reminded me of Drogon and Jon in season 7
Most of the time is the Velaryon women marrying Targaryen men. Rarely do Targaryen women marry Velaryon men. Since Rhaenys, the last Targaryen woman to have married a Velaryon was the mother of Valaena Velaryon (Mother of the conquerors) and granmother of Aethan that we see in this video. Through Aethan comes Corlys like 4 generations later and then his bastards Alyn and Addam. They are 8 generations removed from their last Targaryen ancestor.
@@shippendales8543 Its Canon that you need blood of a Dragonlord to ride a dragon. What Jace says refers to "Non-nobles". It was thought that only those in the nobility could ride dragons and not mixed bred people like Bastards or long gone descendants but they also can sometimes which makes it even more chaotic to hold on to dragons
@@Alejojojo6 Most of Corlys' ancestors are not yet described, which gives the production leg room to do this. Just remember the following KNOWN rules of dragons:
1) You need to be from Valyria - check
2) Targaryens are the only ones with dragons - check
3) Velaryons didn't have dragons and Targaryens wasn't keen on sharing - check
4) Only when a dragonrider married a Velaryon and had kids, did they allow it - only with Rhaenys as their mother - check
5) There are now more dragons than Targaryens to ride them, therefor they need more VALYRIANs do be riders. To have valyrian blood means being able to ride a dragon. Simple as that. Therefor Addam is perfectly capable to be claimed by a dragon - as we now see, that they do. It is not enough to just walk up to an unclaimed dragon, the dragon must allow it. Daemon wanted his mothers dragon, but Meleys chose Rhaenys even though rhaenys is 50% valyrian and Daemon 100%.
@@BollekolleDK There a theory that you people are missing that Hightowers and Daynes from pre Dragons Empire called the Great Empire of the Dawn. Essentially they are Dragons People before Valyira.
Perhaps secondary dragon bonds are dependent on their first rider.
Thus Targaryen dragons only accept Targaryens. The wild dragons having no previous bond thus can bond with anyone thus Nettle’s success with Sheepstealer.
Seasmoke having bonded with Laenor initially thus can bond with Velaryons even if Targaryen blood is minimal
So this explain why Targaryens wanted to keep their blood pure. It ensures that the dragon they bond into will never go to another family.
His mother's lineage is mysterious. Something tells me she also has Targaryan blood
What would happen if Ghidorah ended up in house of the dragon world?

Stupid noodle yellow dragon
In the show it’s said the Valaryons never rode dragons but the books, as far as I know do not specifically say so. The Targareons purchased Dragonstone from the Valaryons so they owned an island with Dragons that came from somewhere. The Cannibal a dragon, it’s thought from a different house than the Targareons, saluted Lord Corlys on his death. Plus were the Valaryons named after the civilization they came from or was it named after them. Perhaps they were the first dragon riders and through political infighting wound up being forced out of Valeria and over time bred themselves out of contact with their dragons just as the Targareons would later do.
In the Books they SPECIFICALLY SAY the Velaryons did NOT ride dragons. There is even a video of Martin explaining the houses feature in the show (Hightowers, Velaryons and Targaryens) and he specifically says the Velaryons are valyrian but not Dragonriders. Its further specified in the encyclopedia of Westeros and many other books.
The Targaryens DID NOT purchase dragonstone from the Velaryons lol It was a Valyrian fortress of the Freehold in the west, chosen due to his volcano activity perfect to station dragons who felt at ease with the eat of the volcano. It was given to the Targaryens as part of their distant lands and they built a Valyrian fortress. They never or rarely went there until 14 years before the doom.
The Cannibal is not from another house. The sources vary greatly. Some say Cannibal was born pre-Targaryens arriving but those are the least beliable ones because it contradicts other account such as that Vhagar was the Largest and Cannibal was just the largest of wild ones (Vermithor and Vhagar are bigger but Cannibal being older should be bigger which isnt the case). The Cannibal is said to have been born either in the time of the Conquest, most likely being the egg of Maegor that he rejected. Some other sources even say he was hatch during the reign of Jaehaerys meaning he should be like Silverwing or so in terms of size.
The Velaryons were not a Dragonlord riding family of Valyria, thus did not belong to the High Nobility but rather to a mild nobility. Their strenght was in sea trade. Laena and Laenor gained the dragonlord ability thanks to their mother being a Targaryen and because Jaehaerys I had eclipse her and her kids, he at least let his great-grandkids be allowed to have dragoneggs in compensation.
Its VELARYONS and its VALYRIA, so no they were not named after the Civilization they came from. They were not dragonriders and the Targaryens NEVER bred themselves out of contact from their dragons otherwise Daenerys would have never been able to hatch her eggs.
Interesting ideas there were other Dragons Families but Cannibal was Wild Dragon. He or She could have come from a different set eggs or dragon family 🤔. The person below is right but Velaryons and Valyirans not the same thing. But good thinking
Perhaps secondary dragon bonds are dependent on their first rider.
Thus Targaryen dragons only accept Targaryens. The wild dragons having no previous bond thus can bond with anyone thus Nettle’s success with Sheepstealer.
Seasmoke having bonded with Laenor initially thus can bond with Velaryons even if Targaryen blood is minimal.
This explain why Targaryens wanted pure bloodline. It ensures that dragons that bonded with pure blooded Targaryen will not accept other bloodlines save for Targaryens.
MAJOR PLOT HOLE: How can a dragon choose another rider when its rider is still alive. The bond between dragon and rider is supposed to be deep and almost spiritual. This doesn't make sense
Lanar is probably dead. Killed off screen. The Dragon know it, but the other people don't know it yet.
@@sophiawilson8696 Laenor is alive. They've shown it. He's with his boyfriend. So until it's confirmed he's dead, it's a plot hole
I was worried that seasmoke was going to do something to addam
It seems strange that his connection to dragons is up in the air and we have to find our own explanations. Hopefully they give a clue to explain it instead of a mystery.
Make another sea monster size in tv series and animated
Theoretically every Velaryon can bond with a dragon since they all have Targaryen blood.
not Corlys according to the books I guess. In the books Adam is Leanor´s son, so rahenys grandson. He claimed seasmoke more because of the Targaryen side than the Valeryon side. They changed that in the show and apparently Corlys did have some Targaryen ancestors.
@@alejandrogiha7583 Corlys has Targaryen blood, every Velaryon does. Laenor is gay and those are not his kids even in the book. Yes officially they are his but we know Corlys would never claim them publicly.
@@griffith9235which is likely why the official story was they were his grandchildren fron Laenor when he has Rhaenyra legitimize them
@@alejandrogiha7583They have been marrying each other for hundreds of years, they can claim dragons as well!
It’s not Targaryen blood they both have. It’s Valyrian blood. They’re both from old Valyria (though with the Valyrians they probably have Targ blood in them ever since they started to intermarry with them at the conquest )
I think it was a ridiculous thing that dragons choose their riders. It would have been much better if Addam 'd have tried his luck and he was succesfull. It's acceptable than what happened.
I think it shows that the fact that Targaryen’s has control is a myth. Aemond can’t stop Vhagar from eating Lucerys and Arrax. Rhaenya cannot curate who Seasmoke will choose. Seasmoke can just find someone on his own. 🐉
Hy are they zooming in on the bœbs like ☠️
Who said only a targarian could claim a dragon?
Hugh hammer claimed vermithor and sheepstealer was claimed by a common girl named nettles .
Targarian had the ability to tame a dragon because of blood magic i think .They had dragon blood .(Meagor targarian 's still born dead child had wings)😮😮😮
WHAT!!!? THAT IS WRONG
Tell me in which part of the book its implied that the blood magic was family specific. It was not family specific. The valyrian race was created when the old people of valyria performed magic to bond their blood to the one of dragons. And that people then divide themselves in many families which difference level of power, only the stronger families had dragons. But Valyrian blood can tame dragons and is dragon bonded, period. The reason why Velaryons never ride dragons before is the same reason why Texas state does not have nuke bombs (only USA has them). The targaryens were their feudal lords and they will try to keep that inportant source of power to themselves and other powerful valyrian families (before the doom) AND NOT GIVE ANY DRAGON TO VASSALS.
Keep in mynd that in the books there is no aesthetic difference between velaryonws and targaryens, George in many times clarify that they also carry the blood of old Valyria (and that is the only type of special blood ever mentioned, it is not something family specific with each family only bonding some lineage of dragons)
Addam is a Valyrian which is the half brother of Laenor and was probably even similarly looking. You do not need more complex explanations than that
PD: All targaryens had velarion blood (aegon the conquerors mother for example) and all velaryons had targaryens blood. Thats becouse each time a targaryen wanted a wife and there was no sister available they marry a velaryon and that was not considered as "washing the blood", for a targaryen marrying a velaryon is keeping the valyrian blood pure, and valyrian blood is dragon blood
Ew ai art
Why the black woman can't be of royal blood

They can, just not in Westeros since there aren't blacks there in canon. Blacks live in continents below. And Valerions arent black in books so show looks dumb race swapping characters

Its entirely possible there where Valyrians who had white hair and purple eyes but looked like other distinct races
We wont know for sure until Martin actually writes books set in that era and we see the freehold
George RR Martin also intended for the Targaryans to have dark skin in one of his early drafts before he changed it
Thats likely where the idea to make the Valyrians look black came from , it makes the nost sense that uf they are a sea faring family they have married people from different places over the years
