A VERY interesting story. Seems like the writers really did a good job creating the back story and world building. As a novice/hobbiest writer myself, I am a sucker for deep world building and a good story. I am quite interested in this game! 😊
Very cool to see the lore I’ve been working on featured in a Captain Benzie video!
The basic outline (ship left Sol, ship knocked off course, ship settles belt because the planets all suck) was originally written by Chris/DarkosNightmare, but the combination of the claustrophobia of a single ship all alone mixed with the immense isolation of being in the wrong place in a story with no FTL travel hooked me!
Expanding out from that simple prompt has been a fun side project for the community while we wait for the game. I named the inner three planets (they originally just had single letter placeholders) and chose the names and wrote the bios of the Arvad leadership. Other people have named the first High Commander (Donald Arkos, from “Darkos”, after the lead dev, which then was chosen as the name of the capital city Arkos!), the outer two planets, and many of the notable asteroids.
“Decentralization” can be kind of a buzzword, but that how the lore of Influence has always been built, since the beginning.
There are a couple of semi-canon Scrubbers’ Mutiny stories that have been written, too!
Excellent, thank you for the context (and the lore!)
I'm keen to learn (and share) more! Maybe even try writing some of my own!
Absolutely! If you are interested in writing some humanist hard sci-fi about families across generations, haves-and-have-nots in a cramped microcosm, and political and economic soft power winning the day, we’d love to have you.
I wonder if you have any Sci-fi stories in your head; maybe you should write your own.
The NFT part of the game is amazing. Don't be scared of crypto. it's changing gaming.
Spoken like a crypto-bro. Show us, don't tell us. What is "amazing" and what is "changing?"
@Mike-ce2nk How about not getting banned for selling game assets after your done playing the game because IRL things come up.
Influence has a lot of valid reasons for using the tech, which is why I'm excited - but I understand why so many people are hesitant. We've seen it used badly all over.
I like what you described in your previous video about how a game "object" like a crew member can carry a unique history. That's an example of showing not telling. An enormous amount depends on what sort of use they make of that functionality, whether it's just cosmetic/lore/fluff or impacts gameplay, etc... but conversations on that level are productive. Hype buzzwords and FOMO-speak are going to turn off a lot of people.
The anti-crypto army of gamers are part of the biggest self-own in human history.
But digital ownership enjoyooors will continue the slow march of progress regardless.
