I think Horner at this point is just trying to get as much profits on the books as possible in his attempt to get investors to buy out the Austrian Redbull side. A billionaire like Carlos Slim ( Checo's sponsor) is a good friend to have in your wider tactical games. It also keeps Max's camp happy. 2 birds 1 stone. Only change since sacking of driver days is the Austrian owner died. Horner now wants a ownership stake without Marko looking over his shoulder & the Thai owner's son equally wants to flex his muscles after decades on the sidelines cause of an old genetlements agreement that Austrians would run F1 side. Power struggle. Sucession.

It’s because he’s sponsored by some major hitters such as Mobil, Disney, Telcel, Claro, Nescafé… he’s bringing in way more money in than what they’ll ever get from the championship prize money.

Aswell as the absolutely massive fan base he has in Central America, which are all more than happy to part with their hard earned for some nice Perez f1 merch, between the sponsorship and the marketing money he brings in, he probably ends up paying half the mechanics aswell as Verstappen’s wages ;-)

Yes McLaren can win the constructors championship now and a remote possibility is there to win the world championship. It is being overlooking that both Norris and Piastri are driving better this year - and both are now future world F1 champions. Piastri is the biggest improver among drivers and can move to number 3 within a few races.
Perez brings a lot of money to Redbull, so congrats to McLaren. I'm happy as long as piastri keeps his momentum, he is becoming a great driver.

@@DesktopBodybuilding that would be too late I'm afraid. Piastri at this point is probably driving better than Norris. Those two are going to be unbeatable in high downforce circuits. Spa should be a scary warning on the potential of the W15 and they have two proper race winners. RB cannot afford to wait until the points gap is almost null.

Perez was rubbish for most of last year too and it was the best car ever.
RB seem to be able to make a car that fits 1 driver and that is it. Any changes to whom it's built around is a problem for the 2nd driver.
Only Danny seemed to be able to get the most from the No 2 car over a season. Webber maybe too.
They have had xx drivers and only 2 have been able to get to grips with the 2nd car. Why?

I guess they need Carlos Slims’s money, regardless of the loss in constructor points and crash repair costs. And with the additional burden of building their own engine which is increasingly looking like a project they can ill afford in terms of cost and lack of competitiveness, they need every penny they can get!

Based on his performances Checo should be out it’s that simple. In contrast though, who else? Anyone here expecting Daniel to do significantly better than Checo if any better at all? I don’t think he would even though I would love to see Daniel and Max back together! And I see 0 chance of Yuki or Lawson getting the seat. So this is definitely the safest option if it happens but idk seems like RB is basically signing off on losing constructors this year🤔
They would have a chance with any of the other options. Checo is a guaranteed loss. He is the slowest of the top8 drivers even though the car isn't.
The car never fit checo's driving style nor will it ever while Max has a different style and is faster.
The crap show will just carry on and they will lose the constructors this year and likely for the foreseeable future unless they make insane strides with the car. It's an insanely dumb decision.

Horner really likes Perez and has always been a fan of him, yes his current form isn't great. But he helped Max win a championship in 2021 (4th overall), 2022 (3rd overall) and came 2nd overall to Max in 2023. He's had a really good stint over the years and every driver can have a bad few races. Finish this season off with no driver swap is a good decision as it doesn't add that uncertainty of a new driver, and Perez is a great driver, just not in form right now.
Only reason he is staying is to lower the risk of Verstappen leaving.

What the definition of insanity? Keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result. It also affects Lawson, so I’d be exploring options if I was him, it’s just the wrong call imo.
Hopefully this faith in Checo will give him his driving confidence back and start scoring points for the team. The constructiors title brings in the money after all. Checo can deliver the points problem is the rest of the teams are getting better on the grid so it's not easy for Red Bull to pull out the gaps on the competition anymore
