Once again! THE man on UA-cam! Amazes why you don’t have 10x the subscribers. This one just too much for my 65yr old arthritis. Best wishes as always from Scotland.
Love the 'now make it your own' attitude. Jimi played every song different every time. Great song, great lesson, I will watch it again I'm sure. I have liked, commented, and subscribed, even though you didn't ask anyone to do so. I didn't realize that it was possible to end a UA-cam vid without asking people to 'like, comment, subscribe', well done.
I have to tell ya.. I'm so glad to see ya showing these songs.. I really appreciate it.. I been with ya since ya started.. I just wanna say.. Love ya bro! Keep em comin!
So james love this song choice. I've been actively playing since early 70s, my maple clear strat, plexi and 4x12s long since sold for rent. FNP done finally after 17 years of school. This tune was a nice choice for the afternoon, good style, well discussed. Your the best!
Man , James you are easily one of the best. Wow. That walk down , sounds so heavy. It sounds like that Strat is going to drop thru the floor. I love it. By the way. Nice Strat.
Hey James I know these are weird times but do you ever play live? great player and thanks for these videos, still going through your previous account and this one, you’ve been very helpful and I sincerely thank you! Cheers
@@jamesjames9275 I understand I’m the same way. I’ll try and play Red House or Machine Gun on my SG and it just doesn’t feel as right as it does when I play on my Strat.
It sounds good man but if you listen to the album during the verse he switches that Riff Off the second time around it does something else and then the third time around because something else you're missing like two or three other cords in the first part and I can't find anybody online except for this one guy who's playing it right but he don't stop and show you what chords he's playing
Nice axe. I have the same color. Bought new in 82. Tell me you were inspired by his Woodstock strat. Id trade that t shirt in however for a Penguins shirt. :)
Lol, listen to Chicago play their song I'm a man, then listen to the Doobie brothers long train runnin'. There is a lot of that out there, especially with the youtube backing track channels lol.
Hey James I know you are a big Buffalo Bills fan. Congrats on the AFC East Title! Central California supports them because of Josh Allen. Let's Go Buffalo!
Picked up the guitar when I was 12 years old and everytime I listen to these tutorials everyone one sounds different if you don't have the sheet music then of course it's going to sound different everyone learns the song Different and everyone's going to play the song Different because everyone hears something different and again unless you're using sheet music and learned it from the sheet music but it's all good it all sounds 👍 I personally prefer that way makes music more interesting that way
hey James did u see the Bee Gee movie on HBO?? pretty good, you'll enjoy it. Check it out !!! BTW, Great lesson!! always wanted to learn Dolly Dagger, I love the guitar parts! Jimi was just incredible! Thanks James
I noticed that you and many other guitar players with a lot of experience do your power chords and A shaped bar chords with your pinky. I do mine with my ring finger as my pinky is weak still. Is your pinky just a preference or is there a reason behind it? I assume you started with your ring finger as well?
Mainly just for comfort. If you've playing a bar gig from 10pm-2am, playing barre chords with a ring finger can cause hand cramps, so I switched to little finger many years ago.
@@GeorgeSPAMTindle Before the SG Custom, Jimi played a Black Beauty LP Custom for a few gigs. In '68, he started using the Gibson(s) onstage for blues numbers, e.g., Red House. (Should have used one for Bleeding Heart at the RAH show, although it's silly to complain at all about that performance on the Strat.) But he was playing a right-handed LP flipped upside-down and the upper fret access was pretty lousy. So he switched to the SG Custom, and then later to the Flying V. I think he actually had two different V's. I've always assumed it was one of the V's as the main guitar on Dolly Dagger.
@@jamesjames9275 Thanks for the informative reply. I think Jimi played a white Vee at the Isle of Wight gig for Lover Man, and I'm sure that I've seen film of him with a black one, and with the red one with hand painted decoration added. Jimi was buried with his seven favourite strat's, so he definitely had a decent guitar collection. Bleeding Heart at RAH is one of my favourite live working of any blues number.
@@GeorgeSPAMTindle Both Jimi's V's were black, although one could pass for white with the big white pickguard. One of his V's had (still has) some custom paintwork on it.
When I play this, everything has to be down a fret (i.e. when James says play the 7 & 9 frets, it's 6 & 8 for me). Should I be in a tuning other than standard? I'm relatively new to guitar, so sorry if this is a dumb question!
@@jamesjames9275 Oh, I didn't know that (this is my first Jimi song). And yes, I tuned down a half step and it sounds right now -- thanks for teaching me something!
One of my absolute fave Hendrix tunes - underrated part of his work. Thanks.
Yeah I love the direction he was going in 70
Night bird flying as well
Good GOD, man! I think you just invented a new technique: THE FINGER FINGER TAP at 2:02
Innovation, baby!
@@jamesjames9275 It's only rock and roll (but I like it). Ha!
Great song , and great job. I’ll say it again that Strat is beautiful!!

Love Jimi! Thanks for the episode on an often overlooked great song! Also, I hate the Capitals but love you Doug Jarvis era jersey.
Thank you. One of those obscure but awesome Hendrix songs.

Fun fact: if I’m not mistaken Jimi originally recorded this on his Flying V
Yes, I think you’re right. I thought about doing this on an LP, but I’ve designated this as my Hendrix guitar, so...

2:43 am and I decide to play Dolly Dagger. I forgot to tune up and then turned on the amp and woke up my wife. No knife attack yet.
Nice. Does The House of Guitars have any more guitars?' Did the guy in the rabbit ears ever get someone to kill him*? *Rochester joke'
GRACIAS!
Great lesson, not many lessons on this song, and great tone you got there, great job!👍🎸🎶
Nice work!! How is the guitar set up and what amp are you using?
Kick ass

Saw it, it was pretty good. Kind of odd that they didn't include a single word about the Sgt. Pepper movie, though. :)

It’s actually a 1991 Peavey Predator, but I put a Fender neck on it.

Are you tuned to e flat ?
How did you get so good? Like I did with no life but a guitar lol?
I think he’s using humbuckers on this tube
Jimi played Flying Vees and SGs, so there's a good chance that he was playing with humbuckers.

Do you prefer nine gauge or 10 gauge strings on your strats ?
It depends on what kind of bridge is on it, but I'd generally go with 10's. If the bridge is lousy, I'd do 9's.

What's the specks on the strat?
Are there specks on it? I don't know, I don't really clean my guitars, so there's probably bits of stuff on all of them.

22/23 that's about his maximum. Some have to go once new ones come.
