Hi, Linda! My mom grew up near Graceland (before it actually became Graceland). She was a year older than Elvis, and went to Hamilton High School, the school for Blacks. He went to Humes High School. "Elvis Week" on on our local ABC station's "3:30 Movie" was what got me hooked on Elvis in the 1970s. Nice to meet ya! I bet you can't wait to see the movie next month! It has a lot of information about Elvis and his relationship with Blacks. About time.

Elvis could sing anything and most people don’t realize how good he was in singing gospel music I saw him in concert 10row in Dayton Ohio when I was 10 years old I still remember that and iam so glad I went because those concerts will never be able to go again he loved his fans and gave millions away during his career

No other entertainer in history has left behind the legacy Elvis did.
He was far more than a singer. Once in a lifetime phenomenon that
changed the world far beyond what he could have ever imagined.
It's sad he didn't know how important he was in life. Vicki

Elvis was a revolution within itself, something nobody else has ever came close to. Elvis's music and legacy will never die, he wouldn't believe how many people still love and admire him. There was something about Elvis everyone could relate to, he had a beautiful soul. RIP Elvis.

I`ve seen a lot of interviews from people like John Lennon, Keith Richards and other great musicians that where influenced by Elvis. One of the things they had in common was that they heard him on the radio first and was like: "Wow! What was that!?".
So they realized they have heard something special before they ever saw a picture of him or seen Elvis on TV.
    He got it all.
The voice, the new sound and setup, the looks, the moves, the extreme presence, aura and charisma, humbleness, etc.
Even big Hollywood stars were stunned when being in his presence. He was a very special guy.

You're right. Robert Plant said that. I said that, and I was born in '65. I remember being in first grade, so, in the early '70s. I was watching TV, and a commercial came on for one of those K-Tel style records. It was a compilation album being advertised on TV. And the commercial opened up with a photo of Elvis, and the opening notes to Hound Dog. And here I am, a little first grader, in the '70s, not the '50s, and I'm hearing for the first time this song from the '50s, and I remember this so well --- I sat up straight like a rocket, my eyes went wide, and I turned to my mother and exclaimed, "Who is THAT?!!!".
      It's really remarkable.
When I was in my 20s my dad and I took a road trip to Graceland. This was the early '90s. I was in a long line to get to the graves. And when I got to Elvis' grave I had this sense that something was happening. I didn't know what it was. But I remember it was the feeling like someone famous had pulled up -- -it was weird. I couldn't place my finger on just what it was. And it gradually dawned on me that my chest was heaving and I was crying. It was crazy. It was totally beyond my conscious control and awareness --- it was just my body reacting separate from my mind.

      @@dannyanime3468 Respectfully...
Elvis was NOT a "culture vulture"...
      he was an artist...
he was so authentic and brave...and HE was IT in the music business as a single recording artist. Talent, presence and passion, & generosity never know in this country before. He gave away cadillacs, homes & on & on. When HE did things ...it was news around the world. He was the FIRST music artist to be KNOWN around the world & broadcast around the world during his Hawaii concert.
Elvis was the defination of cool and humble at the same time with talent that was head and shoulders above the rest...before the colonel enslaved him and stole his dreams and then he fell from his place of honor. It was a travesty what his "manager" did to him... betrail & lies that is what killed him... and he sunk into drugs and obesity and died. It is so sad what happens to a human being when they have no dreams left to live into...it is soul shattering & that took his life.
I guess you are just too young to have a clear understanding of HOW MUCH this one man meant. BRUCE summed it up perfectly...he changed the very fabric of the music scene and civil rights in this country.

So many people said that. Whitney Houston said that. Whitney Houston's mother, who worked for Elvis, said that. Shelley Fabares said that. The guys who worked with him at that famous sound studio when he recorded hits like Suspicious Minds and Kentucky Rain --- they said that.
There were a bunch of people who also said you could feel his energy even when he was outside or downstairs. That you could sense something was happening.

@@HomeAtLast501 Reminds me of this great Eddie Murphy quote: "That’s my idol, Elvis Presley. If you went to my house you’d see pictures all over of Elvis. [You'd see the exact same thing in my house, born 1979] He’s just the greatest entertainer that ever lived. And I think it’s because he had such presence. When Elvis walked in to a room, Elvis Presley was the f**king room, I don’t give a f**k who was in the room with him, Bogart, Marilyn Monroe."
That tight purple leather suit he wore in the magnificent standup special "RAW" is obviously a modern take on Elvis' sexy as hell 1968 Comeback Show black leather outfit. Even more undeniable for those of us familiar with his great love and admiration for Elvis.
Within a a reasonable timeframe (once back to my super toned 18 year old six-pack body I had when I did boxing back then, later this year, I am totally getting, as close to a carbon copy as possible, that white suit he wore in 1968 while performing "If I Can Dream".
When I someday eventually kick my air addition, preferably not voluntarily, I want them to play these three Elvis songs representative of who I am, or in that case rather who I was, in the following order:
      "American Trilogy"
I'm an atheist, so it's not the God and Hallelujah bit, but the intense sense of a determination to fight on no matter what, my great love for America, the song in general and more than anything else this part:
"So hush, little baby, don't you cry
You know your daddy's bound to die
But all my trials, Lord, soon be over"
and when that hauntingly beautiful flute follows, it's as certain as the sun rising in the east, that my eyes become real shiny, as a bare minimum, real quick due to my daughter (parental alienation or rather de facto kidnapping for 2+ years, now she's 12) and a resulting less than cheerful medical history on the heels of a ruthless, soul-crushing, 2 days shy of Christmas 2019, out-of-the-blue year long secret evil plan facilitated divorce by my adulterous ex-wife of 11 years.
      "If I Can Dream",
The most powerfully inspirational and idealistic song ever performed.
      "Tender Feeling"
My favorite song in the world since my late teens.
Sorry for going off on a completely unrelated and pretty dark tangent. Elvis always struck a very emotional nerve with me, like for most of us I assume, and he's the sole reason for my flawless southern accent despite being Danish and never having visited those parts yet.
Muslims are supposed, if possible, to pilgrimage to Mecca. To me, for hardcore Elvis fans, we should similarly try hard to swing by Graceland, preferable August 16 like my parents did for their 25th anniversary. They've never flown before or since and hate it, but when you gotta go, you gotta go, so...
I'll get out of your hair now and get back to either writing on my book, studying French (emigrating to Corsica asap) and messing about with my beloved Taylor guitar trying to learn more Elvis songs properly.

      @@JoachimMoeller Wow, great comment.
If you're going to get an "If I Can Dream" costume, are you going to go to B&K Enterprises? Have you heard of them? They have the ACTUAL PATTERNS for that outfit. The guy who designed all his costumes for '68 Comeback --- Bill Belew --- was friends with the owners and he gave them all his original patterns. Elvis loved his work, so he had him do all his costume designs after Comeback, as well as his personal wardrobe. This is a link to the "If I Can Dream" jacket. It's pricy. And they can also do the pants --- just ask. They can really do anything he wore in any film, show, or in any photo --- just ask them.

Oh if only. Or better still, a duet with Elvis and Bruce on Fire. Imagine that!

Bruce , upon getting famous went to Graceland one night at about 12 am. He get out of his car, jumped the wall and tried to make it to the front door before being stopped by a guard. The guard knew exactly who he was, but unfortunately, he told Bruce that Elvis wasn't home, he was in LA. I think this was when Bruce initially was bringing Elvis the song "Fire".

Yup, I think it was Uncle Vester. 1976. But I heard that Uncle Vester didn't know who the heck Bruce was. Bruce showed him the cover of Rolling Stone magazine on which Bruce appeared to assure him he wasn't some nut.

Art Caley Oh cool. didn't remember hearing the cover for identity part, was along time ago tho when the boss told the story I think is where I heard it, not sure tho.

steve durbin Why is the comparison always so necessary?? All those you mention are very different from one another. I view Elvis as in a category of his own. Also, there’s room for all sorts of music. By focusing on who is “the best” or “...can’t hold a candle to Elvis” (or whoever), just limits enjoying music with an open mind. Elvis himself appreciated a wide variety of music. By the way, I’m a massive Boss fan too 👍

@@susanesterhuizen4921 I do believe there may have been a tiny grain of truth to that, though NOT Elvis' fault. It created more and more decline in music. Each generation worst then the next. Look at today - women wear NOTHING on Stage, on the street in night clubs. HELL Look at the drag show they just did in the Catholic church. The HORROR of NO BOUNDARIES AT ALL. NO LIMITS TO SEX OR AGE LIMITS or GENDER LIMITS. They are fighting right now for control of other people's children with NO RESTRICTIONS. The whole LOVE IS LOVE campaign is founded on 50yr old men are free to love 12yr old boys.

Elvis was a poor hillbilly kid from the wrong side of the tracks according to the snobs of this country, and some never accepted him. Never gave him due respect . Hollywood is very guilty of this. Yeah he made movies was a star
But was the quality all Parker s fault no ,could he have tried harder , the money was to good enough, to bother , they wanted elvis for his names drawing power, but,
      The establishment didn't like interlopers.
