  • Every college student has an RA, but few actually get to experience this position.. So what's it like? And more importantly, is it worth it?
In this video I break down all the pro's and con's of being a resident assistant. There's a lot of reasons to enter this position, but it's definitely not for everyone. Join me in dissecting exactly what these variables are and how they combine to form a verdict.

Wow totally agree with everything you just said! To be an RA, you have to have a VERY specific, almost contradicting skill set - to not care about your reputation (which can admittedly get kinda negative, especially after write-ups) but also be personable enough for people to confide in you. Very rewarding but, as you said, not for everyone :)
    We miss you Nolan!

I was looking for a video from a student's perspective about the pros and cons of the RA position. This was perfect! #HallDirectorApproved

At my school training was a complete joke lol. I didn’t get rehired so as soon as I heard that i stepped down. I love how the RD’s preach student first when in reality you are not. You are a RA first, everything else be isn’t important in their eyes.

I finally got my Official Letter to be an RA! I’ll be a Honors sophomore, but I’ll also be on the Honors floor!! I’m really excited but pretty nervous too, I leave in a couple weeks! Awesome video 😁

Thank you so much for your great video! I'm only 17 and am going to University of AZ as a Texan. BEc of that, I'll have to pay a lot more in tuition. I'm considering to be an RA as it significantly reduces my costs, but I'm not sure bec I really don't want to sacrifice my social opportunities. IDK, what do you think? Thank you once again and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Oh my god. Nolan! I didn't know you had a youtube channel!
This is Aubrey, from freshman year in GSH! I know we didn't interact a ton, so if you don't remember me, that's totally fine.
Loved this video btw. Hard agree with every point you made except the one about living alone. Having my own room was one of my favorite parts of being an RA haha.
Are you still in the HC?

Oh my gosh hey aubrey! It's been awhile, but if I remember correctly we both lived in 5 North and talked to Will about being an RA right?
Anyways, it is so great to hear from you. At first living alone was tough for me since I'm pretty social but overtime I grew to really appreciate it too. I still am in the HC and am beginning the thesis writing process. Are you?

What if your 21 or older, is going out and drinking and partying still risking losing your RA role?

I think the emphasis on free housing and food is too much while not enough on the résumé and how it impacts post grad experience in opportunities that they will get. There is no other campus job that will prepare students like a resident assistant position and I think going into detail how it will benefit long-term is important

Not totally sure I understand the question… are you asking if you can transfer to another school by applying to be an RA at another school?
