The reason he had to cancel your landing clearance is because airports without ASDE-X cannot have an airplane cleared to land and an airplane lined up and waiting.
So he cleared you to land, then the Gulfstream showed up so he has two options. Keep your landing clearance and clear the Gulfstream for takeoff straight from the taxiway, but that makes it take longer for the Gulfstream to get off ahead of you. So he cancels your landing clearance, lines up the Gulfstream so he's ready to go and then bam, clears him for takeoff. Once the Gulfstream starts moving he can clear you to land again.
    ATC has interesting procedures.

Victor Santana no. it simply doesn‘t happen often. A cancelled landing is nothing dramatic but worth to be mentioned. Landing clearance was given very early and he was still far away when another aircraft at this runway reported ready for departure. So to legally let this aircraft depart the controller had to cancel the given landing clearance, otherwise he wouln‘t have been allowed to let another aircraft enter the runway. Otherwise this aircraft would have had to wait until the Citation finally had landed and left the runway. When this other aircraft had taken off the Citation was cleared to land again. It‘s simply a very strict legal thing for safety reasons to never ever have an aircraft cleared to land with another aircraft being cleared for takeoff at the same time. That‘s all. Here in Europe traffic is often so dense that we‘re regularily cleared to land just seconds before touchdown. But if no clearance has been received the wheels must not touch the runway.

Hi CitationMax. Just watched your introduction video how your love of flying originated.
What a lovely story and how you've become such a professional pilot.
I'm not a pilot but regularly watch your, as well as Premier 1 Greg, plus Steveo flying those wonderful aircraft and the professional manner in which you share with us followers ( maybe we're frustrated pilots ) but the expertise and knowledge you guys have to have is incredible.
Inparticular the focus you share during take off and landing is intense and believe me I feel that I'm that cockpit beside you.
Many thanks Max for such incredible video's.

A previous commenter is correct. Unless the tower has a sophisticated software program you can not “line up and wait” when an aircraft has been “cleared to land”. So if you get in that spot, you cancel the landing clearance, and reissue it after the departure has acknowledged the takeoff clearance. Most major airports have the necessary computer program/equipment to avoid this situation. This came about to prevent an aircraft landing on one in takeoff position.
